Apple Watch Series 6 Review

What's up guys, my name is Michael in today's video. I have my review of the Apple Watch Series 6. , so I'm upgrading from the Apple Watch Series 5 in this case so uh most of the changes to this watch are not very significant ones, so the upgrade for me is not a very big upgrade, but in this video I want to go through every small little thing that apple changed in this watch, including the new color, which you can see. I have the blue one right here, and I just want to tell you if any of those changes and upgrades this year will make a difference in everyday usability of the watch. So let's go ahead and jump into my review of the Apple Watch Series 6. Quickly before we get started with the review.

YouTube tells me that a large portion of you who are watching my videos are not subscribed to my channel so make sure to click the subscribe button down below. If you want to watch all my latest videos on apple and the latest software updates, so we can start here with the design. The design of the series 6 is pretty much the same as the series 5. I've heard. Some reviewers say that it is slightly slimmer.

I don't know if that's the actual aluminum case, that's thinner or if it's just the mechanism here, the module that does all the readings through your wrist. But people have said that it is a little slimmer. You can see there are a couple extra sensors there, that is, for the blood oxygen sensor, and I will do a test later in this video showing off the new feature. I don't think this blue color is that flashy at all, and in fact you can only see that it's uh really blue because of my studio lighting that I have here, in fact, in real life and from far away if it's on your wrist, maybe hiding under a sweater, it's going to look black. So if you just want a nice sleek under the radar look that has a little more flash than the previous generation.

I think this blue is going to be a lot better choice than say the red that apple released, which is very flashy, and it pops a lot. So I think this blue color is a nice mix between having some color on your wrist, but not too much that's going to blind your eyes every time you look at it and if you're wondering this band I got, I believe is called inverness green. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right, but it's the solo loop. I love how comfortable these bands are. On my wrist, I find that the rubber bands don't really fit my wrist as well.

I used to be able to fit really perfectly in one of the holes, but my wrist size, I guess, has gotten a little smaller, and now I can't find the perfect size with those rubber bands, so I've switched over to the solo loop and I find it a lot more comfortable, especially for sleep tracking, and I'll talk about that. A little later in this video as well. So I'll first show you some of my favorite watch faces, and then I'll show you all the new faces that have been added in watch OS, 7. , so uh. This one is the current one, I'm using every single day.

I love how simple it is. I kind of wish you could get one extra complication there in the bottom I'd love to have the weather. That would pretty much make this the best watch face. I have. I can't find the perfect watch face, yet I hope, maybe next year, Apple can really add a bunch of watch faces and maybe even add the option for uh third party watch faces.

We can only dream. So, let's move on to the next one that one is called typography. If you're wondering this one is called California, so I do like having a regular clock dial on my wrist instead of just the digital time as you'll see with most of these watch faces. But this one is. If I want to have a couple, uh extra complications on my watch, I guess five extra complications you can see.

I have battery the calendar and I have calendar events, weather and activity for the day, and I also like to have the glanceable time with the almost on display of the Apple Watch Series 6. , that one is called California. Now I do have a digital watch face as well: info graph modular, I don't use it very much, but I do have it on my list of watch faces this one. I tend to use at nighttime, just if I want to glance at the time really quickly this one I'm just showing off, because it's new in watchOS 7. , I kind of like the look of it, and I was able to match the color.

I think pretty well of the watch face to my watch band. Furthermore, I kind of like that contrast there with the blue case as well, and then, finally, this one I added from a third party link I'll, have it in the description down below pretty much this guy. Let you have the style of your favorite sports team on your wrist with the new stripe space, so he created a bunch of different styles. This one is from my favorite hockey team right here, and I was able to add it to my watch, so I'll have that link down below, if you want to add your favorite sports team onto your wrist. So as you can see here, this is one of the new emoji watch faces here.

I chose the funniest one. I could find, as you can see there, I'm not going to seriously use this as a watch face. Furthermore, I guess it's fun with the new kids' mode. Furthermore, I guess you could call it with the new apple watches. You can set up an Apple Watch for your kid or for an elderly person, so I guess with more kids wearing apple watches.

Now I could see them enjoying this watch face this one is also new. I believe this one is called GMT. So if you want to have multiple time zones on your wrist, you can figure out how it works for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how it works. I added a couple different time zones and just doesn't make sense the way the dial goes around. So if there are any uh professionals, uh timekeepers or people that are good with watches uh tell me in the comments down below.

I really don't know, uh how this watch works, and I'm not going to use it, but it looks pretty cool. I guess I could say that this next one, I think, is called count up. So if you ever want to start a timer from the current time, you are at right now. Instead of opening the timer app, you can just go to the count up face and if you tap that small area at the top it's kind of hard to hit, sometimes as you can see there, you can hit the very small start button, and then it will start a timer from the current uh time and the reason I say the current time is that you can see the current time that the timer started at as a reference point to the current time. So it's kind of a shortcut if you want to be able to take a quick stopwatch reading and also have the current time reading on your watch, so kind of neat watch face.

I, like that apple, keeps adding uh really neat watch faces like this and then. Finally, as I said, they keep adding neat watch faces. Uh, probably the ugliest watch face. I've ever seen like seriously. Tell me in the comments if you like this watch face.

I think this is so ugly. I mean no disrespect to the artist that made this, but I just don't. Okay, that looks pretty cool, I guess with the lines version and the OLED display. That looks a little cooler, but when you turn it on I'm just not a fan of how this looks tell me in the comments below. If you feel different, though another new addition to the Apple Watch Series 6 is a brighter always on display.

So, as you can see, I'm tilting my watch into the studio light, and you can still read it. Although, when I'm indoors, I really didn't notice a difference compared to my series. Five now I traded in my series, five to apple now. Unfortunately, I already shipped that watch back, so I can't do a comparison uh with the always on display, but I can tell you that when you're indoors, you won't notice a difference with the always on display, but when you're in very harsh lighting situations say, for example, when I'm driving and my wrist is up by the steering wheel, and I can't really turn my wrist to look at the time. I can just glance at my wrist now, and I can see the time, and it's a lot brighter.

So when I'm driving, especially where I live very high up north uh, the sun is going down very early and sometimes in the winter it goes down close to 3 30. , so um yeah, the sun, is always right in my face when I'm driving, so that always on display the brighter always on display, I should say rather, is definitely a nice upgrade to have at least for me in my circumstance- and I should add on to that, even though the always on display is a lot brighter, and that makes it, so you don't have to twist your watch to look at it. The accelerometer inside the watch this year I find, is a lot more sensitive, and it's way easier to get the watch to wake up when you want it to so before. On my Apple Watch Series 5, I would do the slightest gesture and my Apple Watch wouldn't wake up and, as you can see there, my watch still woke up when I did just the slightest twist. So I think apple has upgraded a lot of the sensors inside the watch and that's what allows the accelerometer to be a lot better for detecting little motions like when you want to wake up the watch.

So now I want to talk about battery life on the series 6, because I seriously don't know why people aren't making uh as big of a deal as this is because this is the battery life upgrade on this watch is bigger than I've ever seen. I'm able to finish the day now with close to 65, where, as last year with my series 5, I was lucky if I could finish the day with 20. So I'm really glad that apple has made improvements to the battery life this year, and I don't know if it's the new chip inside it's probably the new chip, or it might also be the slightly larger battery inside. But I'm able to get this thing to last easy two days with sleep tracking, so sleep tracking is also a new feature in this watch. It doesn't really tell you what modes of sleep you are in.

It just tells you total time of sleep. I'll show you here, I'm a very restless sleeper, as you can see, there's a lot of breaks in my sleep, but it still is able to read the amount of time. I am asleep, and it tells me that I'm consistent with my sleep patterns, so I guess that's a good thing I kind of wish. Maybe for next generation they can add even more sensors to tell you when you are in deep sleep when you're in rem, sleep, etc. So um, they did say that the most important metric is time asleep, but I can see how it could be useful to see some other metrics.

Also, inside the sleep app maybe next year, let's go ahead and do an on-camera test of the blood oxygen sensor. So this is the main new sensor. That apple is advertising with this new watch. So I was 99 3 hours ago. Let's go ahead and do it on camera and obviously because I'm doing it on camera, it's probably going to be like 92 or 93, because everything always goes wrong when you do it live on camera.

But let's see what's at here, it's usually pretty accurate, I'm not wearing it that high on my wrist. But let's see what the reading is 96, so it is a little lower uh. Maybe it's because I'm talking my lungs off here on camera, for you guys, but that's the blood oxygen sensor. I've heard you can get a more accurate reading. If you put the sensor of your watch on your fingertips, so you can try that out if you'd like to, but it's pretty cool, it's good to have this information, if you're hiking, for example, on the elevation changes, and you might not be getting as much oxygen in your lungs and also with- I don't want to say the word, because I'll get demonetized, but with the current situation in the world right now, uh with a certain thing that could happen to your lungs uh.

It's nice to know that uh, it's nice to know the levels of your blood oxygen. Let's just say that, so it's a really nice new sensor to have its doesn't have very many uses. Cases like I said right now, other than it just being fun to check your blood oxygen level, but tell me in the comments below. If you find this a feature worthy of upgrading to the series 6-4 one issue, I did notice with the blood oxygen sensor on the series.6 is sometimes the background readings that the watch does. If you're in a dark room, you can see the red light coming out from all sides of the watch, so I think you can turn off background readings if you go into settings, but by default the background readings are on for blood oxygen.

So if you are in a dark room, and you're, not in sleep mode, you might see the bright red lights sticking out from behind the watch, because the Apple Watch is only able to measure the oxygen level in your blood by shooting a bunch of light into your blood and getting the reflections back and reading data from that. So the red light has to be pretty darn bright and, like I said you can see it if you are in a dark room laying in bed or something, so I fared I may as well mention that also another tiny tweak that apple made this year is an increase to the charging speed. So, even though, now, when you buy a series 6, you don't get the power adapter in the box which, by the way, thank you apple for doing this. My house is literally littered with these 5 watt power adapters. I do not need another one, so thank you for making the box a lot slimmer and not including another one of those power adapters which are awful for the planet.

Hopefully they can do that with all of their iPads and all their iPhones in the future. I know some people may not agree with that, but it's way better for the environment, so uh I got off track. The battery life is good on this watch and also the charging speed is perfect on this watch. I'm able to get, I say, 10 more with the exact same charging time and the reason I know that is because my shower length is usually the exact same time and I usually get 10 more top up on my series 6 when I put my Apple Watch on the charger when I hop in the shower so, along with battery life being better charging speed is also a lot faster on the series 6. So that is appreciated, and here I just want to wrap up the video by going through all the things I love about.

My Apple Watch that aren't particularly new this year, but are just things that I love about owning an Apple Watch in general, so the first is Apple Pay, so I don't even set up Apple Pay on my iPhone anymore, just because it is so much easier on my watch. I don't have to unlock my Apple Watch. All I have to do is unlock my iPhone and if my Apple Watch is on my wrist it'll unlock by itself, which is awesome, all I have to do is double click. The side button and I am an Apple Pay. All I have to do is hold my card against the reader, and it is as easy as that tap and pay.

So I love Apple Pay on the Apple Watch Series 6. , also new, with this update this year. All the apple watches that can get the latest update are going to get handwashing reminders and also a handwashing timer, so it'll detect the sound of water flowing. This is guys this is the most apple thing that they could have come up with. They can detect the sound of water running and the motion of you scrubbing your hands, and it'll come up with the most apple, looking cute little bubbly thing that counts down from 20.

So I guess you don't have to sing the happy birthday song twice when you wash your hands anymore. Your Apple Watch has you covered if you want to shut off the handwashing timer, I fully agree with you. It might be a little gimmicky, but I would recommend turning on the hand, washing reminders, it'll know your location and then, as soon as you get home, it'll give you a reminder, saying: hey. You might want to wash your hands since you just got home. So that's kind of a nice addition there.

Another really nice addition in watchOS 7 is the increased responsiveness of the entire OS. So if you have an Apple Watch Series, 4 series, 5 you're, also going to notice this, you don't have to get the series 6 to notice the speed improvements. In fact, when I installed the beta of watchOS 7 on my series 5, I was noticing this on day one. So the first thing you'll notice is the digital crown is a lot snappier as soon as you press it in it's going to respond in previous versions. You'd have to click it in, and then it would respond.

But now it's instant, so it's kind of hard to explain, but it's a lot faster than previous versions of watch OS and obviously the increased responsiveness also comes when opening applications and loading third-party applications. That may be only on the Apple Watch that require a lot of CPU power. All that is going to be faster this year as well. Another thing that is pretty cool is the noise application. So, let's see if my voice is too loud for my own ears looks like I'm okay.

It looks like I'm maxing out at like 70 decibels here, so I'm not hurting my ears with my own voice, but this is pretty cool. I was in the convertible the other day and a huge truck just ripped past us, that's the most Canadian word by the way it ripped past us- and my Apple Watch actually gave me a notification saying that the environment is too loud. So you can set the decibel level inside your iPhone, and you can choose what setting, or you can choose what level you want. Your Apple Watch to alert you uh that the environment may be a little too noisy. So again, it's just the uh most apple feature ever, but it is kind of cool that it's there and another cool thing.

That's also going to be really popular with kids now getting their hands on these apple watches is walkie-talkie. So this has been in the Apple Watch for quite a few years now, but I have a feeling that this is going to get very popular with more and more kids, getting the Apple Watch and then finally, the last thing I want to say is the peace of mind. You get with an Apple Watch that you can't get with any other piece of technology, so, for example, the heart rate notifications, the high and low heart rate notifications that has saved people's lives. People have written letters to apple, saying how it saved their lives. Aphid detection.

You can take an ECG right on your wrist that has also saved people's lives, who have an irregular heart rate fall detection. Also, your watch can detect a fall. The gyroscope and accelerometers are working together in this thing to detect if you fall, and also if you're in mobile for 60 seconds after you fall, it'll immediately call 911. , also emergency, SOS so say, for example, I hope you are never but say you're in a car accident uh, and you need to call, is press and hold the 911 button. As you can see there, emergency SOS starts counting down, and it makes a very loud noise to let you know that it is going to work, but emergency SOS is there as well as medical id in case anybody finds you unconscious somewhere, for example, and also as if there weren't enough peace of mind features.

It also has international emergency calling so on previous versions of the watch, I think before the series 4 that didn't have international emergency calling, but I think on the series- 5 apple added that so, if you are traveling abroad, the Apple Watch can detect the country. You are in, and you can still use emergency SOS if you need to when you're traveling. So all of this peace of mind features really make the Apple Watch, how popular as it is today- and I love my Apple Watch and I think the upgrade to the series 6 was honestly worth it for me, but tell me in the comments below if you have an Apple Watch and if you are going to be upgrading to this year's series six, so that was my review of the Apple Watch Series six. I really love this blue color man, I'm uh, really glad I went with the blue. Actually it really looks nice under this studio lighting.

I wish I could be in this bright of lighting all the time anyway. Uh. That was my review of the Apple Watch Series. Six tell me in the comments down below guys, if you enjoyed it and tell me uh what your favorite feature of this new Apple Watch is I'd love to hear what you guys have to say also drop a like on this video. If you enjoyed it.

Thank you so much for watching. My name is Michael and I'll. See you in the next video.
