Apple Watch SE | Why I “downgraded” from the Series 5

Hey, what's going on everyone, my name is Donovan and in today's video I'm going to unbox, the Apple Watch. Se brand-new watch that I just got in the mail yesterday and uh, I'm going to be replacing my Apple Watch Series 5. So for some of you may be thinking why in the world, would you be replacing a series 5 with the Apple Watch SE, because isn't that kind of downgrade and to be honest with you? Yes, it kind of is a bit of a downgrade going from the Apple Watch Series 5 down to the SC. So I'm going to go ahead and talk about that. While I'm unboxing this and talk about why the Apple Watch, SE is really all the watch I need personally. So first, uh you can see.

I got the silver version. I got the SE of course, and I got the 44 millimeter version of it, and it is LTE um. So this one came in at 379 sorry 359 dollars, but you can get the 40 millimeter version without LTE coverage, uh for 279, so really honestly, a fantastic deal and uh in future videos. I'm also going to be comparing it up to the brand new Garmin venue sq. So this is a watch that actually just came in the mail yesterday as well, so two watches on the same day, and just the day before I got the Fitbit versa.

Three. So all three of these watches kind of at a similar price point. So if you're interested in fitness tech definitely hit that subscribe button because I'll be doing lots of comparisons, uh maybe help you figure out, which one might be the right one for you, and I'll be honest with you with 100 certainty. I already know the Apple Watch. Se is going to be a fantastic watch for me, and I'll talk about why that is right.

Now, so, first things first um. What am I losing going from my Apple Watch Series 5 right here down to the Apple Watch, SE well, uh. One thing that you're going to be losing, or at least I'll, be losing is the ECG opportunity. So if you are someone who maybe has an irregular heart rhythm or maybe some irregular heart issues, um there is ECG on the series 5. I am not going to get that with the SE, so that is definitely a little of a downgrade there um the new series six, which I could have got um.

Obviously I've had the series three series: four series: five and uh. I was honestly planning on getting the series six until I realized. I wasn't really missing much with the series six, so I won't be getting the spo2 or the blood oxygen sensor that you get with the series six, but honestly, that's not something I necessarily need and plus fun fact I get it with this watch and technically also the Fitbit versa 3 has it only does it while you're sleeping though, so you can see right here, sp02 94, that was just while I was sleeping last night, so anyways a little of a letdown. Furthermore, I honestly thought it was going to have it all the time, but it only does it while you're sleeping. So you can see.

We have two boxes here so um. I got the blue version or navy blue version of the watch and rip that off all right, so I'm going to be losing ECG. The other thing I'm going to be losing is the always on display and to be quite frank with you, that is a feature that basically I've never used. I used it for I think two days on the series 5 until I realized that the battery life was just going to be awful, and I just turned it off, because the always on display just burned through too much battery. This watch the Apple Watch easily.

The biggest downfall of this watch is the battery life. I typically get through sometimes a full day. Sometimes I don't even get through a full day because I'm using it very, very heavily, I'm a very heavy power user. When it comes to my watches, the three things I really use. The app watch for, of course, is notifications, but then also music podcast.

So I kind of put those in the same thing and then also for workouts. So I found that the Apple Watch is really a fantastic watch for tracking GPS. The heart rate sensor is absolutely fantastic and honestly, if this were the only watch I ever had um. I wouldn't be sad about that. Really, the only thing missing for me with the Apple Watch is um, unfortunately, better battery life.

So with these other watches, like the Garmin sq venue sq here you get much better battery life, obviously not as much not as many sorry. Smartwatch features with the venue sq, but fantastic battery life like six days on that one more of a smartwatch than some of my other Garmin watches. So I also have uh you know like the Garmin 400 245 music. This one is definitely a little more of a fitness watch than something like the venue sq and then the versa 3 also has really fantastic battery life, but also some missing features that you get with the Apple Watch. So let's go ahead and take a look at this and oh another reason why um so again, why am I switching from this one over to this one and again, really it is a bit of a downgrade, so I don't get that always on display.

I don't get ECG and the other thing is this. One does come with the same processor as the series 5. Um, so that is nice. The series 5 is plenty fast, so the series 6 does have the updated processor. It has the s5 chip.

This one has the uh sorry the s6 chip. This one has the s5. This one also has the s5 chip. So I think that the Apple Watch Series 5, is plenty fast. I don't really see a need to actually have a faster watch in my opinion, and so the SES processor was just fine for me, but really probably the biggest reason I made the switch is uh yeah the battery life on this one has definitely gotten worse.

I do have a few little scratches. Those honestly don't bother me the AMOLED display. You can't even really see them unless the screen's off, maybe you might be able to see just some minor scratches here on the edges, but not a big deal to me, but honestly, the battery life over time on the Apple Watch started off, not great and, of course, over the course of a year. It gets worse. So that's kind of what I was looking for when I got the Essie was better battery life and uh.

Just a fresh watch, so anyways uh, quick, unboxing, I'm not going to go through everything you get in here. It's kind of the typical stuff you get! You don't get a charging block. I should mention that that was kind of a big deal. You do get faster, uh charging, though um from what I understand with the SE, so we'll check that out and uh yeah. So I'm excited about my new watch again I'll, be comparing it up to some of these other watches.

So, if you're interested in, like the versa, 3, the Garmin venue, sq um, so here's the versa 3 next to the Apple Watch, SE here, and again I'll be unboxing. The Garmin venue sq tomorrow in a video, so stay tuned to the channel lots of content to be covering these three watches, comparing them up. To other watches that I have as well stay tuned thanks for watching. I hope this video has been helpful for you, and we'll see you all in the next one. You.
