Apple iPad Pro 2021 vs iPad Pro 2020 - MORE LIKE iPadOS 15....

Well I mean yeah apple, released, a new iPad in the uh there's a m1 in there and then there are the specs and the gallops, and all that 16 gigs of ram. I mean yeah, we've all been begging for 16 gigs of ram in our iPad, because safari is not going to reload itself. Okay, so here's the thing. I know, I'm being a little uh face ties as they say uh, but here's the thing. I think we need to talk about expectations, and what are you going to use the m1 chip in the iPad? What are you going to use the m1 ship and the 16 gigs of ram 4. And I'm not asking flippantly? I am genuinely curious because here's the thing- and I understand I'm not even getting semantics I've ever talked about is the iPad.

You know a computer replacement, and might say what is the answer Dave? Well, it's kind of complex, it's! No, it's not um. It's really not, and I've done other videos talking about why it's not I love, listen. I have to actually the reason it's here. Well one! It's like a's like a note, thing too, but I just I have to show people. I have it, because how rare is it to see someone talk critically of a product and own it long term? Yeah, I don't know many people, um and so you're going to get a lot of YouTubers, and I'm not throwing shade at them, but I'm just you're gonna they're obsessed with the hardware.

It looks nice, it's really. You know. Oh man, the mini led the m1. Look at this benchmark. Look at this! Look at that: okay, that's all good and well um.

What am I? What are you going to use it for and this conversation's kind of been heading this way, because hardware is outpacing software tenfold, and so what we're seeing is them focusing on the hardware I mean apple, never releases like really they're, pretty ambiguous with specs right. They don't talk about ram like they were on stage talking about 16 gigs of ram and the one terabyte and two terabyte iPads at 12.9 inches, and I'm like that's not what they used to do, and this is an interesting kind of difference that you know this apple now versus in years past. They would just say, hey use it is'll speak for itself, now they're kind of getting in the whole uh. Well, it's got this and this look at the specs and all that stuff. But I understand they're important right, they're part of the conversation they let you know where things are, as far as you know, competing products and stuff.

But when I see people go tab, seven plus blah blah blah, I'm like listen, the tab, seven plus and other tablets are actually far ahead of apple's tablets in certain areas. Right they really are. I've done videos showing Samsung's notes app and the pen support what you get and not having to spend 130 more, like you do for this here or a 350 for a new magic keyboard. I know mike pepper is going to call me out on that. One we'll say: buddy we'll see um, but here, like I just don't know what the use case for it is.

You know, and I think we need to be honest with ourselves. Like is new hardware exciting. Absolutely it used to be a lot more exciting, and so now companies have amped up their marketing about everything and they've earned it right. I'm not saying the m1 is not a good chip, I'm not saying the specs aren't relevant, but I feel like. We really need to know what you're using that for right.

If you're going to go drop, especially on the high end, you know models, two grand three grand on an iPad and today is an iPad. You know you can say it's a bigger iPad, and it has all these specs. But when you get an iPad Pro from last year, you get an iPad 9.7 inch, an iPad Air for it and put them all together. Guess what they're all running the same software sure 120 hertz, I get it better display in certain areas. Yet but fundamentally the things you're going to do, which is use, what the apps they're going to perform the same, maybe a little quicker on the a12z right, and so I'm genuinely curious.

You know, I don't I'm not asking flippantly. Are you going to utilize the iPad to its fullest potential? Are your is good notes, gonna work on the m1 better than it does on the with a12z or the a10x? Whatever else is out there, that's what's that's! What's by, I don't know you guys. Let me know you know, I'm not saying I'm not excited for it um, but I just think I have my expectations are attenuated, because I know what my limitations are for the iPad, but I'm not foisting that on you, I'm not going to sit here and say yeah, I edit videos, so you need to go, buy an iPad Pro too. That's not who I am you know compared to the iPad Pro 2020. Listen now that the keyboard isn't compatible, and they didn't change the pencil.

No, that I don't see why you would want to. Unless you have a. I don't even want to say specific hyper specific, like there's an app that needs. That kind of power, then sure you know, but they're selling us hardware today, based upon the potential future of the software later on well they're going to merge mac, I'm like dude. I get that that's fun to talk about.

It is right, that's exciting! When you look at the iMac design now and the iPad Pro design with a magic keyboard like there is a level of like okay. What are they doing here like this screen on, like a square stand, really thin low profile? That's cool! I get it. I understand that uh, but for me, I'm like stop selling me on the potentials of this hardware today when the software is not available until tomorrow. Next year I mean there's already rumors how convenient enough that WWDC, the iPad is gonna, have all these unlocked features and desktop class. All this, like apple, hasn't even updated their own apps, their pro apps for the iPad.

So why would I think it's going to be different now and so for two to three thousand dollars, for you know people to go. I edited on suffusion for a day or a week, and I know I'm being hyperbolic. Some of you guys do, use it more power to man. I know a lot of people start out on their channel using it that's cool and stuff. I get it, but you're like the edge case.

You know it's the uh, it's the generalization of it. You know it can and no other area do we have to go well it can, you don't have to you, don't have to prove that a Chromebook's, a Chromebook. Furthermore, you have to prove that a windows surface is a laptop. We don't have those conversations anywhere else, but some reason the iPad we're just destined to make it be this computer like let it be a computer on its own. Let the general population will let you know and guess what they're letting you know, because guess what they're not leaving their macs outside us on YouTube, no one's leaving their macs and windows laptops and going I'm going all in on a 12-inch screen.

That's going to be my workstation, oh, you might say: well Dave you can hook it up to an external monitor. This guy doesn't know his stuff. You can. You could also you know, get 4x3 aspect ratio which, I would argue, would I'd rather work on the 12 point screen, because then at least I know hey, I got a 12 point in screen here at 12 point inch 2.9 in screen here, I'm not using whatever that mode is its silly and then that's again you know it gets a pass like if you were to imagine the MacBook Pro. If that only was able to do one external monitor, oh wait, it is imagined if it only had two ports.

It does. This. Has this one here, but the new one, one less port can't even do a full mod like who why? Why are we trying so hard to convince everyone that this is a computer replacement for the average person? It's not it's, not it's, not even pro users. You know how I know most pro users when they do that video they're done they go back to their mac. They go back to whatever like thousand dollar or whatever plus rig.

They have they're, not they're, not leaving everything I mean, even if it even is they did. I would if this had external monitor support like a normal like decks or something like that yeah. I could, but you know hey. That's me crazy. Why would I want resizable windows on a computer? That's just silly.

I want split screen and flappy birds and maybe subway surfer will move better like anyway. I know I sound flippant. Furthermore, I'm going to get one just because I'm on a plane that lets me upgrade every year, uh, which is starting to become harder and harder to justify um. But again I know the screen is gonna, be great. No one's going to doubt that I know the m1 is gonna geek bench.

Through heavens, we all know that that doesn't matter what are you using it for if you're just going to use Google, docs and split screen mail like one, you probably didn't, buy an iPad Pro so kudos to you for being one of those elitists uh, but two I'm like it shouldn't. We shouldn't have to try so hard to prove its something. That's really, ultimately what it comes down to when we, when any other laptop or device, we don't have to go. Oh, is it? Is it a computer? Is this going to replace it and here's the thing apple voiced that conversation into this overall tech YouTube commentary and commentary in general they're, the ones saying if you go, I think it's a new computer. What did it say their marketing used to say something like? Oh, your next computer is here.

I didn't make that up they're the ones saying if it's like they're, saying, supplement or edition, or this whatever there's there's their, making this they're drawing those parallels between a computer and this iPad, and so guess what no other computer would get a pass for. One port, no other computer, would get a pass for. Only being able to you know, support a one monitor at 4x3 like no other computer would be able to get around not having any type of Io, except for again one port, like that's insane to me, um and so and again. For me, it's kind of ironic because the same people that are all the MacBook Pro it only has two ports, and it only does this I'm like yeah. Well, the iPad Pro is that times 10 it doesn't have more of the things it doesn't have.

You know um. So let me know in the comments below you know, I'm way more excited for WWDC, because again this hardware is far outpacing the software at a rapid speed and that's why they focus on the hardware more than ever. Now you know what I mean: they really do right. They show you graphs and everything. Oh, look what it can do, I'm like yeah, most people aren't ever going to reach that threshold of performance at all, and if you are, I would argue, you're not buying an iPad Pro.

I'm just saying I mean apple. The term pro has lost any meaning. You know, because pro is relative, you can do pro things on a Chromebook. You can do pro things on an iPad Pro, I'm willing to say that um, but this kind of making it fit this this this marketing narrative is I'm like. Why are we trying so hard? We should be like dude, go back to the software drawing board and come back when it's ready, um but anyway.

Let me know in the comments below you think I know I just I see these comparisons and if you have a 2020 like I do here they're, I see zero reason upgrade par tic with the keyboard debacle as well, which is like confirmed, but not again, it was apple's. You know own documentation to a company or companies overseas, they're saying it doesn't fit. Maybe it does, but it's you know, there's the proclivity of it to damage the display from the tightness. I don't know it's just one of those things I'm like dude. If you have 2020 again, unless you know that you know if there's an app right and how many people, let me know you guys, let me know that have iPad pros 2020, let me know what app is not performing well, because it doesn't have more ram in a processor upgrade genuinely curious.

I don't know of anyone and uh. I would like to know those people and talk to them, because they would help me understand things better, and I would have to be less flippant on YouTube and be this canary in the coal mine. If you will and uh you know, listen, I think we can all agree that the iPad Pro is a nice product. It's just you know software. Please catch up to the not only the hardware but good lord.

The price. Am I right?.
