2021's craziest gaming phone | Unboxing ROG Phone 5 & ALL the accessories

Do you smell that that's the smell of a brand-new gaming phone? It is ROG for five times. If you know gaming if you know mobile gaming, then you probably have heard of the ROG phone five, despite the name they've they haven't made five of these phones. There's actually only four different variations, but because you know they don't want to call it rg4. So here we have the ROG phone five. So in case you don't know, there are actually three uh models. This time in the ROG phone five series you've got the ROG phone five, which is the phone that we have here.

We have the kg phone five pro and the ROG phone five ultimate. Well, we don't have either the pro or the ultimate. Unfortunately, so you're going to have to stick with the five, but I have to say like specs wise: it's not it's not a very big difference. It's like this is still like uh like in terms of performance, okay, so um. This is the box.

I don't think this is the one that we're getting in Malaysia, but I mean if this is the one we're getting nature, then you get the first look law, but it's quite a nice box. So you've got like this like dot matrix like dot design over here wow. Look at that this looks a bit like their laptop. You know the one with the anime tricks thing, one of all, the dots pretty nice over the side here says: ROG phone five. So then we're gonna pop this tab, wow whoa.

What's that looks like a comic strip, so it looks like there is a comic strip with like one two, three four five six panels and then Akira. I guess this guy's name is Akira or is your name? Akira is my name Akira? I don't know, so we have this thing uh. This is, I guess we get all the stuff. Look at that. Look at that look at the sim eject that is gamer, okay, gamer, sim ejector.

I don't know if the other ones were like that or not, but I can't remember a long time really. Never unbox kg phone uh so inside here you also have stickers. You have a case and yeah that's about it. He has to see ready boom. This is the phone of course, the kg phone, oh rj45, yeah, okay, we're going to place it inside.

First we're going to open this. What else is inside? Ah, we got charger, yeah, charger, charging, cable, sorry and then the power brick yeah. Look it's a big power, brick, oh my god. So this is an USB c to c cable, USB c, to see USB c brake here.65 watt break okay. So that's the charger that is the box uh.

Let's, let's put this aside first, ah, it's the beam, the smartphone, the electric torque. Look at that. So I mean overall, as in, like the shape wise right, it's not very different. It's like very, very similar to like the previous generation phone. You still got.

The really weird cut out for the camera name still got the very like gamer designer, but you know it's unlike the kg phone ones, more like the kg phone, two and three. I guess where you have this full glass panel and this time, as you can see, instead of like just the ROG logo in the middle they've like did some design, so you have like this dot matrix kind of pattern here again. This is where the kg logo will light up, like it's RGB logo right, and then you've also got republic of gamers established, 2006, ROG and then like. What's this buttons, this design. Now over this side, you've got the power button volume rocker, pretty nice.

The power button is pink accent. Nothing up here right here. You've got a headphone, jack and also a c port, and on this side, look at that. Oh my god. Even how big do you want this phone to be? Even the sim tray is pink hello.

I thought the whole tree was pink, but it's not uh. So here you've got support for dual sim, but no expandable storage. Okay, so we turn it around and power it on. Let's do it set up that takes so long setting this up. Uh, there's like this welcome screen, says welcome step into the universe, with Akira on the spaceship.

So if I swipe down it says, select phone packaging design, so my phone package is this: one: yes prepare your product box. So if I oh, it's that art hing all right, let's try it oh scan each comic grid in order to star tar experience. Okay, let's try this oh look at that first panel. So is this guy going up the elevator and then spaceship okay, emo guy coming out the lift? Oh, Akira play turn your phone to landscape mode. What the pleasing tap continuously! Oh, charging power: okay, uh anyway! This is the phone fully set up.

So, as you can see it, it's very similar to like what you've already seen from other ROG phones, so up front. You've got a huge, like massive display, like look at it compared to my iPhone, my iPhone 11. Look at that, it's so small. So this is a 6.78 inch display it's a full HD plus panel, and it's an AMOLED panel, and it also has a refresh rate of a hundred and forty-four hertz. So I think, as far as screen is like it's pretty similar to its predecessor, the rg43, and that means that it's like a perfect, really smooth display.

Look at that. So, alongside the 144hz refresh rate, it also has a 300hz touch, sampling, um, which I think is good for gaming. I don't know, I don't really play mobile games a lot, but it is also like, if you're a content consumer you like to watch movies and stuff, it's also pretty good because it has a HDR, 10 plus support, and it can achieve a peak brightness of 1200 nits with a max brightness of about 800 days. So, as far as like display goes, I think it's pretty much up there with like the best of them, maybe only the resolution, it's HD instead of quad HD uh, but honestly at the screen size I mean it's not a big deal. I guess people want that fast.

Refresh rate more, I think yeah people who are interested in this phone anyway. Also, if you're a big content consumer like to watch movies, you will appreciate the fact that this smartphone has a pair of stereo speakers, and they are front facing. So that's like the best kind of position. They are like quite small and tucked into this corner, but the sound that they make is big first things. First, the Oppo x2021 is a concept phone in the traditional set.

Not bad, not like you know like a meme. They don't sound like teeny phone speakers um they are, they get pretty loud and also like novella, quite full. I would say so. I think as far as smartphone speakers go, this one got thumbs up, of course, since this is a gaming smartphone, and it's the ROG phone right, ASUS isn't holding back, so you're, getting all the top of the line, specs right now, uh. The thing that you will realize is that this smartphone, at least this ROG phone, is launching a little earlier than normal, because normally we'll see like the kg phones around June July, you know, and they'll get like a speed bin or like a snapdragon 8 series plus processor, but because this one's coming so early, what you're getting is still like.

You know the best processor that's Qualcomm makes, which is the snapdragon 888, and you're, also getting up to 16 gigs of lpddr5 memory. That is more ram than my laptop okay. I know I've said this before, but it's just like picture that and then for storage you're, also getting up to gigs of UFS 3.1 storage. So that's really fast and quite big, but because this is our g405 you're only getting the cap is 256. If you want more like 512, you have to get the ROG 45 pro and if you get the kg 405 ultimate, it's a limited edition phone, but that one has 18 gigs of ram like holy keeping the lights on.

This smartphone has a 6 000 William hour battery, and it also supports up to 65 watt fast charging, but because this smartphone uses the middle tab or the mm tum battery format, you get two 3000 William hour cells instead, so that it charges faster. But you know you should still expect like really, really good battery life. They've also optimized this smartphone to have like a lot of battery saving features because, like any kind of smartphone and gaming phone, especially you know, the battery life is probably not going to last very long because you're always gaming on it, you're always charging it up. Turning it down. So a couple of things that they've included first is that this phone, apparently it can do like a direct power charge kind of thing where you can plug the phone in and then the power source won't actually charge the battery, but it will keep the smartphone running almost like you know those laptops, so you could remove the batteries similar to that similar to that.

So that's designed to your know, keep to extent the battery life, like basically the longevity of the battery, and then there are also a bunch of charging modes go into book we go into battery, so there are a few different uh, a bunch of settings. Actually so you've got scheduled power, saving low battery power, saving and then battery care. If you're going to battery care here, you can actually select a charging limit. So let's say you want to charge your smartphone, but you don't want to charge it full because you know with lithium-ion batteries. You don't want to fully charge it.

It reduces lifespan, so you can force the phone to charge it up to 90 or just up to 80. If, like it's not like a heavy use day, and that will help, you know uh, let your battery last longer. You can also do schedule charging depending on the time and then there's this one, steady, charging, okay, so steady charging means so, instead of a typical, fast charging curve, it goes like, and then it peters out this one can help it. You know, maintain a steady input. So if you tap on it, you can even choose how steady you want it to be.

If you turn it on right, you got steady here, you got moderately steady, and he got extremely steady seriously. Whoever named these, these things, like is just so. This is so ridiculous. Since this is a ROG phone, you do get two charging ports. Sorry, so you've got one at the bottom.

Here's bc and over here you've got another one at the side yeah. So this one again protected by the rubber piece that I always lose uh here you've got the USB port uh here and then also. This is like the proprietary port, where you used to plug in, like the aero cooler or whatever accessories. Also, since we're on the topic of gaming features, you may notice that wow look at the urge RGB light at the back there. I think I quite like the dot matrix design.

I may like it even more than I like the regular ROG RGB thing. Of course, you also get the x mode where, if you squeeze, then you enter okay, that's not in fact what I make in case you couldn't tell, which is like the hardcore gaming mode. So you see all your icons turn red like. Oh, you can see all here. Look at that look at that, oh gaming, gaming and then the light behind us again.

You can set it to change, so I've set it to do the color wheel cycle thing, pretty cool. The other thing that returns is the air triggers, so you've got a pair of air triggers over here. These are, I believe, they're calling it the air triggers five, so um they are capacitive shoulder buttons that you can use to. You can map to touch anywhere on the screen, so it works with pretty much any game which is very useful and then, of course, they also support like sliding and all those other features that you probably already know so uh on this model. We don't get the buttons at the back, but if you're getting like, I believe, the pro or the ultimate one of them, you're also getting additional capacitive buttons on the back here that you can tap to.

You know basically have additional air triggers, which I guess is pretty cool. Speaking of gaming optimized features, though this smartphone remembers, I was talking about the battery right, so there are two 3 000 William hour cells, but instead of being like side by side or in like the same area, they put one up here, and then they put another one down here and then in the middle here is where they put the processor. So according to ASUS. This is so that the phone remains cool like when you hold your phone like that right. It keeps the heat of the processor away from your fingers.

I mean I've tried gaming with this smartphone, and it still feels kind of warm up, but you know it does make sense, because if you strap on the arrow cooler, you know that cooler thing it does go on in the middle, so it like it goes on like it goes on about like that. So having the processor, there makes sense, of course, since this has to be a smartphone you're, also getting a selfie camera up front and a triple camera setup at the back. So we've got a 64 megapixel Sony, IMAX, 686 sensors, uh, you've got a 13, megapixel ultra-wide camera and also a 5 megapixel macro camera. But you know I didn't really test the camera, because this is our kg phone who buys this for its cameras? You know you buy for gaming, so all I've been doing is gaming. Actually I only spent like a few hours with it, so you know that's it.

So, besides just the smartphone, you know we also got like a bunch of accessories. So there's a couple of new accessories. That's coming out with this device, so one of it is this one boom aero active cooler. This is a new proactive cooler and why it's new? Let me show you wow. So, as you can see it's a much bigger cooler than it is before, and there are these two things: they are buttons.

So if you strap this on to the back of your smartphone, so how do you strap it on again? Is it the same way? Oh, so it doesn't expand and contract like you used to you just like clip it on okay. So then you get this. This is what this is. What that looks like? Ah, can you see that look at that, so you've got the two buttons at the side. Here you can press.

So if you're gaming right, you got this, one you've got this one. You can see that so uh behind here. You also get like the kickstand, so you can put that on, and then you can like uh, stick it on, and then you like, ah you can watch, show yay and then another. The headphone jack is also on the smartphone, because I don't know if you notice, but the ROG phone 3, they actually removed the headphone jack. They only put it in the aero cooler.

So now it's on the aero cooler at the bottom here and also on the smartphone. So now you had the problem of like cannot stand up anymore. You can just leave it there and be like yeah we're good. So that's the first accessory that we got. We also got this thing.

It's called the lunar 3 game pad, so you know the lunar game pad, that's the one that you stick on the side like that, and then you play it's like Nintendo Switch style. So we have the new one which works with the kg. Oh, it comes in a hard case already better than airport max open it up. Wow, that's it. It doesn't feel super premium, but okay, and then I think you can take it out.

How do I take it out? Oh then, you just slide it open and if you want like to put your phone in, there is like hey. What's this, what now is that how it works? Is there you go extra grip, you got even more hand grip here so yeah inside here. You also get this thing. What is this? Never unboxed, the lunar didn't pack before cable, USB c to USB an oh, yes, nice, braid, cable, and then you also get this. Oh.

This is just oh. This is just paper. Okay, then, what's in here, oh this whole thing comes off. This is how you stick it to the is the phone, so you stick the phone in here and then wait. What ah now comes the extra special, the final piece of the puzzle, all right, all this! This is your full gaming setup yeah.

This is your full gaming setup and then go kickstand boom. It's like it's! So it's so overkill, but it's so awesome like how badass is this? Can you imagine you go mother right, uh Caleb, when you can go home, everyone just pulls out there Poco whatever, and you pull this thing out? Who win you tell me who win winner? Actually, we also have one more accessory uh. This is the ASUS ROG center ii, but these are a pair of uh three and a half millimeter headphones. They can get one of the new accessories, so there are a bunch of like ear tips and stuff. Also pretty nice uh.

Should I open this? Oh, very good. Yeah, aces are all their headphones and their stuff are, oh god, case apple. They give you a bra case. Okay. So if we pull this out, yeah yeah, okay, they've got wing tips to stick in your ear, uh.

So yeah, that's not the right tip for my ear, but you get the idea three and a half millimeter you plug into the three and a half millimeter jack over here. Book set the problems off so yeah. These are all this is all the stuff that we have. This is like the fully kitted out ROG phone five yeah. I can imagine just putting this like just chilling there like damn, damn.

This is how you get the girls or boys, but yeah, it's its. It's a pretty insane setup uh. Unfortunately, this time with the ROG phone, five you're not actually getting a twin view, dock, which is the one with two screens the one is like the Nintendo 3ds, because ASUS says that, first very expensive. Second of all, it's a niche product. Third of all, it probably means they couldn't sell that many to justify making a new one.

So you don't get that. I say you get all these, which I mean this is like a pretty epic gaming experience. Do you really need two screens like how many games can actually take advantage of that? I don't know you can tell me in the comments below so yeah. As far as a smartphone goes, the ROG phone five is. Definitely you know it lives up to its ROG for name it is pretty insane.

I mean just from the setup itself. You get a freaking AR comic and all the RGB lights that you could want from my smartphone. It's still powered by the best kind of performance, snapdragon, 88, freaking, 16, gigs of ram. That's that's so much power. You've got a superfast, 144hz, refresh rate, which you know at this point.

It's still not very common. I think there is one that's faster 165. , so it's like 144hz still like it's like very fast for now. I don't actually have the Malaysian pricing for the ROG phone five. Yet I don't know if, by the time you watch the weather, you will have not, if you do, I'll leave it in the description or in a pinned comment in the video down below so make sure you check that out all right, that's pretty much it does.

I think that this is the best gaming phone so far that money can buy right. Now, probably it's got the best performance uh, but you know if it has liked you know the pop-up buttons the way the black shark did. The black shark had the pop-up button. So I really love those um. This phone still uses capacitive, which is still not my favorite uh, and I mean the trade out there.

There isn't really much of a trade-off, there's still no IP water resistance, so I mean it's the same thing um, but you know you do get all these this kit and accessories, which is pretty nice. Okay, you don't get it included. These are optional accessories that you have to buy okay, so yeah as far as performance goes probably the best gaming smartphone uh. It's got. You know Qualcomm's elite gaming, stuff, making it all crazy, but yeah.

Let me know what you think of the kg phone five in the comments section below. Would you buy a smartphone like this? Are you a ROG phone user? Let me know I wanted to hear it all of it all of it just leave it down below okay, but yeah. That's it for this quick, hands-on and first impressions, um of the RPG phone five. Thank you so much for watching. I'm Rory.
