2020 iPad Air 4 vs iPad Air 3 Speed Test

What's going on everybody, this is ultimate high device AIDS and today, in this video, we're going to be doing a speed test between the new 2020 iPad Air fourth generation and the previous 2019 iPad Air third generation. We're going to be doing a variety of tests, including a boot up test, app launching tests, a touch I'd test, a web browsing test and geek bench and intuitive benchmark tests and with the iPad Air 4th gen on the right and the iPad Air 3rd gen on the left. First things. First, I want to show you guys that both of these devices are running the latest version of iPadOS. As of recording this video being iPadOS 14.1, let's begin with the boot up test, so we're going to turn both of these devices off and connect them to a power strip, and we're going to turn the power strip on which will power on both of the devices at the same time, and I'm not going to cut anything out of this portion of the video. I want you guys to see the uncut boot time.

You should definitely keep in mind that a boot up test is not representative of how a device is going to perform in all areas. It's just interesting to see so, as you saw there, the iPad Air fourth gen did boot up just a little before the third gen alright and with the app switchers cleared on both. Let's do some app launching tests so starting off with some later applications. You can see there's just a split second advantage on the iPad Air fourth generation, but it's an tiny difference, as you can see. Definitely something that you wouldn't even notice in day-to-day life.

It's just the fact that we're comparing them head-to-head. Of course, it's going to show, and the same trend continues when we start to get into some later games, like subway surfers as you can see, they're just that extremely minor delay between the two devices and moving on to Minecraft next, and you can see here the same result there just a little ahead on the iPad Air fourth generation. Moving on to temple run again pretty much the exact same thing as before, just tiny, negligible difference, and now, let's get into some heavier games like grand theft, auto San Andreas. So of course the most important thing for San Andreas is actually starting the game itself at the same time. So we'll do that simultaneously on both and no surprise here again same result, you can see in this loading sequence here the iPad Air.

Fourth gen is just a little ahead of the third gen, and the same thing applies going into this intro sequence of the game. You could see just an absolutely tiny amount ahead. Next up we're going to launch asphalt, 9 and this game can take a while to load, especially on older devices, but also on newer devices as well. So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to speed up the video until one of them opens it up and of course, without a doubt that was the iPad Air, fourth gen and then a little while later the iPad Air third gen also opens it up. So definitely a delay in regard to opening up asphalt, 9 as to be expected, as, of course it is such a heavy game, and I also want to launch the camera application simultaneously on both, and you can see there pretty much identical result on both alright.

So next up we're going to do a consecutive app launching test, so we're going to launch the same applications consecutively, one after the next on both devices and show them side by side to show any speed difference all right. So with the app switchers cleared on both let's go ahead and begin to be expected, both devices are blazing through these applications with no problem. The iPad Air fourth generation does have again that minor advantage over the third generation, but once again it's a very small difference and that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, considering that the processors in these devices are both very powerful. The latest iPad Air fourth generation does have the latest a14 chip, while the iPad Air third generation does have the a12 chip. So without a doubt, both of these devices are very equipped in regard to performance.

So the air forge has wrapped up Minecraft, and now it's moving on to temple run and then, after that, it's on to grand theft, auto San Andreas for the iPad Air 4th gen. Meanwhile, the 3rd gen just finished up Minecraft, and it's moving on to temple run and after grand theft, auto San Andreas loads, we're going to load up the last application on both which is asphalt 9. So you can see there. The air 4 is just wrapping up San Andreas and then moving on to asphalt, 9. All right and getting into San Andreas on the air.

Third gen we'll actually start the game there, and while the air fourth generation is loading asphalt, 9. Meanwhile, the air third generation is just wrapping up. San Andreas and it'll join the air force by moving on to asphalt 9. So once again, as you saw those devices just ripped through those applications without a problem, so quite impressive on account of both iPads and next we're going to run a synchronized touch I'd test. So the new iPad Air 4th gen is the first iOS device to ever have touch I'd built into the power button.

So quite a cool implementation there and, as you can see, touch ID is just blazing fast on both of these and next I just want to load a few web pages in safari. Of course, keep in mind. Web browsing tests largely depend on your internet connection, but first up, let's do apple. com. You can see basically identical on both, and we'll do the verge.

com as well and once again same result, basically identical on both and next we're going to run a geek bench test. So we're going to open up the geek bench app on both and run a benchmark and, as you can see, steady improvements in the numbers going from that a12 chip to that new a14 chip, and we're also going to run a n2d benchmark as well and yet again same thing to report here: steady improvements in the numbers, so, at the end of the day, as you can see, both of these devices are very powerful, and you'll be satisfied with the performance on either of these. But all right. Everybody that wraps it up for this video. Thank you so much for watching, and I'll catch you in the next one peace out.
