ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G - UK Retail Unboxing & First Impressions

Hello YouTube welcome back to my channel and in this video I'll be unboxing the brand new ZTE flagship, the exon 30 ultra 5g. This is the very latest flagship phone from ZTE and comes with snapdragon triple eight or eight, eight, the very latest and the most powerful uh Qualcomm snapdragon chipset. Now the last time I had a ZTE phone was a good few years ago, and that was the ZTE exon 7 mini those of you who follow me from years ago. You remember this phone came with a Dolby Atmos at front facing very powerful speakers. The phone still works till this day. Of course, it's a bit outdated, but my love for ZTE ever since this phone never diminished.

So I thought, let's give ZTE a try and let's get their flagship phone. The at e x on 30 ultra 5g. Now this has been ordered from the official ZTE website and the package was bound for the UK and that's why a ZTE also packed in a three-plane UK adapter for me, and I'm guessing the one in the box is a two pin or some other European pin plug, but because this was bound to UK for international delivery. That's why they've also given me a three pin UK plug for UK users, so we will open this also in just a moment, but let's have a look at the box first and see what do we have here? So it's the black color I ordered it comes in a couple of more colors blue silver and one more, but black is the only one which was available at the time when I ordered it from zte. com.

I will leave a link down below I. Should you wish to purchase this phone? Okay so, like I said these x130 ultra 5g, if you look on the left hand, side a pretty much similar, x130 ultra on top ZTE on this side, uh 30 ultra, you can see 5g. Looking at the back of the box, you can tell again the model number here. This is the international variant a2022pg, and this is the eight gig variant with one to eight gigs of memory. It also comes with a 12 gig ram and two five six gigs of memory should you wish to purchase, but because 128 is more than enough, and most people will be more happy with that.

So I'm not that first and eight gigs for snapdragon triple eight should be more than enough for over 90 percent of the people. Okay, so looking at the bottom of the box, like I said, the Qualcomm snapdragon at triple eight and the flagship uh most powerful, snapdragon chips that we have available as of now a 5g mobile platform built-in, so it's a 5g phone also Wi-Fi 6 is certified. As you can tell the very latest and greatest Wi-Fi standard, DTS x, you can see ultra. This is by the way the sound standard. The phone comes with stereo speakers, which I would love to test and see how powerful they are, and that's why you are DT ultra compatible, meaning in simpler words, better louder and clearer, sound also, a Qualcomm apex adapter for those people using headphones.

This is the apex compatible phone, meaning a better, sound and also louder crisp sound. So this is the box without further ado. Let's quickly get started, okay, so unwrapping the box opening the box up there, we go so the phone itself right at the very top. So this is the ZTE exon 30 ultra 5g. I tell you what the phone has got a 6.67-inch screen, but still it feels very comfortable in the hand- and I can tell you why that is the case- stay tuned for a few more minutes, and we will discuss why the phone feels so comfortable, despite being a six point, six seven inches screen in size. So let's put this away for a while and see what else do we have inside the box? Okay, here we go.

This probably would be the manual along with the sim ejector tool. There you go. That's the sim ejector tool and let's have a look. What else do we get inside here? The usual basic paperwork warranty card along with a quick guide, I'm sure most people are not interested in this, and also we have a CPU gel case wow. I remember seeing the unboxing of few YouTubers in the UK and the phone was with a hard plastic case uh.

I remember a few YouTubers unboxing the non-retail unit, and this is the full-fledged UK official retail unit, and I'm glad to inform you that this comes with my favorite category of cases, the CPU soft gel case, which is good news. Fantastic. Thank you very much point to note the phone uh before the launch date. That box comes with a plastic case where this one came with the CPU gel case. This is the official launched version, the full UK retail version and comes with this CPU gel case, which we will test in also just a moment all right.

What else do we get in the box? So, let's get it out there we go. So let's open this baby up and see what do we have in here? Okay, so this is the adapter, like I said uh. This is the two pin adapter and that's the reason why we have been sent um a three plug UK adapter, which we can open right now there we go, so this is the UK three pin adapters, and this looks pretty much the same as this one. So looking at both the charging bricks, the official ZTE adapter goes all the way up to watt max in charging, whereas the one from Nubia, which also supports the Exxon 30 ultra, goes only up to 24 watt, so keep that in mind by 24 watt should still be fast enough for most people. So that is that, okay, so what else do we get so going further here? Then? Oh, we have got in-ear phones.

This is something very rare in smartphones. These days um and I'm guessing. The phone has got a 3.5 mil jack. No, the phone hasn't got a 3.5 mil jack okay, so that probably means that we should have some sort of dongle or adapter. So let's have a look.

What this is? Yes, there we go like I said correctly, so we have then an adapter or dongle, which we can use hook up onto the phone and then use these earphones, but at least we have a pair of earphones, which again is a rarity these days on most flagship phones. Okay, what else do we have? We got something in here as well: let's have a look and see what this is. So this is the cable, the type c USB cable, so unpacking it there we go, so we've got the type c USB on both ends, and obviously this is the new norm these days, so you block out one end to the adapter and other one on to your phone. So this is the phone itself and, as you can see, he's come all the way from China traveling thousands of miles to get to me here in London, United Kingdom, okay. So that's the phone, and it's full glory and this looks absolutely gorgeous.

That's the back of the phone. The black color looks absolutely beautiful. The phone by the way comes with gorilla, glass 5. It doesn't come with gorilla, glass, vectors, but again, 5 is still strong enough. Some compromises obviously had to be made to keep the cost under check, and this phone is significantly cheaper than opposed to a regular flagship phone uh.

With all these hardcore specs, the phone has got many cameras on the back. It's got a 364 megapixel cameras, and then we've also got one uh, eight megapixel telephoto uh camera as well. Along with this dual tone, led flash and quite nice. To be honest, very nice matte finish and looks lovely ZTE 5g, as you can tell the phone by the way is very shiny, as you can tell, my LED lights are constantly reflecting and shiny, so do apologize for any extra reflections in the video. The ZTE 5g is a 5g phone, so looking at the bottom of the phone, uh you've got this uh speaker here, like I said, the phone's got a stereo set of speakers, typical classic setup, the bottom firing speaker and then the top earpiece, also acting as the second speaker.

You've got the type c us bat the bottom. As you can tell, this is the sim tray and also on the left hand, side. You've got pretty much nothing fully, flushed I'll, tell you what holding the phone in hand seems very posh and very elegantly made and very high build quality, something which I didn't expect from ZTE, but nevertheless it feels very good in the hand and even though it's 188 grams, it's a bit slightly on the heavier side, but it does not feel heavy at all in hands. Now, if you look at the other ultra phones of this category, the 11 from Xiaomi the mi 11 ultra the s21 galaxy ultra. All those phones are well above 200 grams in weight.

So this is the ultra category phone and, despite that, it is well below the 200 gram mark, like I said, around 180 grams, so feels considerably lighter for a 6.67 inch, big phone. It also feels very comfortable. I can see the width yay one of my favorite things quite easy and comfortable to hold in fact with one hand. Okay, so going back to the on the left hand. Side like I said nothing here, going up top.

That's the noise cancellation mic and pretty much flushed here, nothing else. This is obviously your band antennas on the right hand, side! That's where most of the stuff is. You got the volume rockers there up on top uh, followed by the power button and the camera bump is a bit more than usual. You can tell it's quite big, it's probably not as big as you have on the 11 um, the Xiaomi mi 11, ultra or probably not as thick or as big as on the s21 ultra, but still a significantly big four class standards. It looks very posh, looks very elegant, looks like it is a photography master and I can't to be honest, wait to see how this goes.

Okay, so, as you can see on the screen, like I said, a gorilla glass 5 at the front, not six, not big, just but still, if you use it carefully, that should be fine. Now they haven't installed any a screen protector and the screen is a bit curved along this along the edges. As you can tell so, it'll be interesting to see how the screen behaves, especially when it comes to palm rejection. So let's turn the phone on and see how this goes and once the phone turns on. We can also try this CPU gel case, like I said one of my favorite category of cases, so, let's put it in, and it should go in pretty smoothly without any first there we go boom straight away.

It goes in, and you have ZTE logo come up right at the front on the main screen. The phone looks quite nice by the way. This is a OS. This is the official skin from ZTE, and it looks okay of the little some of the reviews that I've seen so far on YouTube and most people have praised it. It's very smooth, and they've reduced the clutter on the skin which they had in the previous years, and it's more close to stock android which what the majority of people want.

Okay, so the case is on, as you can tell, and the case also levels it up with the screen. So it's good there a bit of protection here for this case from the case not as much you still got to be careful, but for those who, like minimum fuss and minimum amount of casing on their phone, this is a very, very good case, doesn't add any extra weight to it and all the ports are nicely cut out with no issues whatsoever. So I think you wouldn't want to invest in a case, because this case is decent enough going through the basic setup, English. The device also has a built-in optical fingerprint sensor. Uh, you can set the password and also a facial recognition.

I tell you what let's set up this for now, let's now set up the fingerprint reader and see how this goes they go. It seems very, very quick and registering a hell lot quicker than I expected. Okay, it's now asking me to make sure that I also register the side of my thumb there you go like it's doing it now I'll. Tell you what it is very, very quick, impressive stuff. So, let's see how this is like, as you can tell guys, so looks very smooth, and I tell you what one thing I forgot to tell you: this main screen on the phone is an AMOLED screen, and also it has got 144 hertz of refresh rate, which is fantastic.

In fact, this is the best in class. We have yet to see from any other manufacturer so going to display, remove the auto brightness, which I don't like, as you guys know, and the brightness level goes all the way up and tell you what once you make the screen bright, it does go really, really bright. Okay, now guessing sound. So every time we tap you want to hear that typing noise. It should be here somewhere.

Let's have a look there, you go that sounds, and I'll increase the volume there we go yeah, as you can see. Now. Every time I tap, you can hear a sound, and this is the colorful but simple um menu. It used to be a lot more complicated back in the days, but it looks very, very nice to me on from the outset, at least on the first impressions. So let's get into the storage bit and see how much storage do we have without actually installing any of the apps okay there we go, then the phone has got 115 gigs memory, free and 12.73 gigs is used out of the one to eight gig that the phone comes out with a 643 meg of apps installed. That's a lot, I'm wondering! What's in there, though, the basic stuff the office setting clock, google play uh DT, ultra well-being, but pretty much more or less like stock uh apps, the ones which come from Google and nothing extra that I can see apart from.

Maybe the voice recorder ZTE cares their customer care. Apart from that all looks very, very nice. I tell you what the one thing I'm very tempted is to have a look and see how the speakers sound. So, let's get into sound and see if we can play a few ringtones and get the volume to max and see how this goes. So, let's get the volume max there, we go all right.

So, let's look for the ringtones there. We go the ringtones and then going to any of these tones in here there we go and see how it sounds. I tell you what let's remove the casing, so we can see the phone in its full glory there we go, and I tell you what one thing I'm really impressed with is the way you can hold the phone with one hand. Now the one thing interesting about this phone is the width. As you know, on often in my videos, I discuss uh the width of the phone, not the actual width of the frame here, which often YouTubers discuss the width, which is concerning you handling the phone with one hand and how much pressure does it put on your palm? So this is around the 73 millimeter mark uh, the phones of the same category, the s21 ultra and also the 11 ultra both have got around 75 mil of width, whereas in this phone it is around 73 million.

That's why you can see I'm more easily able to get my thumb. All the way across it's not a Sony, Xperia 5, mark ii, level of comfort, but for a big ultra phone. I think it's very comfortable and if you end up buying this phone, you will see what I mean once you get the phone out of the box hold it in your hand, you'll see how comfortable it is for a phone which is 6.67-inch screen inside, which is fairly big and a chunky phone. But this does not look chunky in your hands at all. Also, now, let's test the fingerprint sensor and see how this goes boom there, you go straight away, no issues.

It is here. You turn on the face unlock feature. No we're gonna! Do that later, so go back again: let's try it once more. There we go, and I'll tell you what the position of the fingerprint sensor is a bit more high up, as opposed to being at the bottom, where it can be very difficult for most people, so it has a reasonable height and a reasonable place, and I think at probably sustained that most people will be comfortable, putting their thumb across this area, which is fantastic. As you can tell.

It is quite responsive and works straight away without any issues, because it's optical, okay, so, so far so good, and I think it might be a very good match for a phone which I recently purchased. The ASUS before 8, also a flagship, snapdragon 888 phones. I will be putting a few more videos for this one guys. I know you've been asking me a lot of questions about its performance, the battery life. Furthermore, I will be doing all of that.

Please do bear with me and keep an eye on the channel, but the one thing I'll be interested to compare the ZTE with the ASUS is the stereo set of speakers. Both phones have got the classic setup bottom speaker, followed by the earpiece as the second speaker and same on the ZTE axon 30 ultra as well, even though there's a significant difference in size, but I think both speakers on these phones are very powerful, and it'd be a good test to see how they compare with each other. Okay. So before we go, let's quickly test the camera out without interfering with any of the settings, let's open the app by default and see how the camera performs just a very, very quick one. Okay, that is fine.

We understand that as well, so, let's quickly just test the camera out and see how this performs, like I said, without tweaking with any settings the way it is by default and see how it performs there we go and let's also take a picture from the back of the box and see how this goes all right, one more a bit further away there we go okay, so now, let's test the pictures out and see how they come out, I think the auto retain feature is actually um not on turning auto rotate. There we go, and now we should be able to see pictures. The pictures are already watermarked, as you can tell TeX on ultra 5g. So let's zoom into the picture- and I tell you what the quality is not too bad at all zooming into the picture. From far away you can tell you, can read every single bit fantastic, not looking too bad at all so going further back.

This was a bit closer again pictures sharpen focus. As you can see, the background has gone blurry again, which is fantastic and then at the front you can still all the way zoom in now via 24 watt, a quick charger again look. The camera looks good so far and without working with any of the settings, it's looking quite good. I will be talking about the camera detail about the uh, the OS as a skin, and how does it work, but so far and first impressions, it seems very, very smooth for something which is 144 hertz, also playing a significant role in making sure that the phone is ultra smooth very quickly before I let you guys go and going into display settings and looking at the refresh rate, like I said, it's 144 hertz and something I quickly had a quick look. Now look at that and the amount of options we have in here.

So we have the auto mode for the best refresh rate, 60, hertz, 90, hertz, 120, hertz and also 144 hertz wow. This is fantastic. You can also turn the very last option on show refresh rate on the status bar, and this will tell you at what refresh rate your phone is on at the moment you can tell it says: 144 hertz, which is again fantastic. Does it change, though? Let's do 60 hertz there you go, it does 90 hertz, it does 120 hertz, it does fantastic. This is beautiful to be honest, uh.

I have never seen a manufacturer with this kind of detail when it comes to refresh rates, so I think it's best to leave it on auto for now, so it will adapt to your habits if you're watching the film most likely will go down to 90 or 60, and if you are testing it, it will probably most likely stay at 144, but not looking too bad at all so guys. This is my first impression so far of the ZTE axon 30 ultra 5g. If you like my video uh, please give it a thumbs up any questions. Please feel free to ask me in the comment section and like always, please subscribe as it helps, and I shall see you in the next video you.
