Samsung Galaxy Z Flip In 2021! (Still Worth Buying?) (Review)

So, if you guys remember last year, Samsung dropped the phone that was actually pretty insane the Samsung Galaxy z flip. Now I think the fold was probably a know: bigger leap in my opinion, but the z flip is still a crazy phone for sure, and what I can tell you is that I'm mostly surprised by how much this phone has depreciated. You can pick up this thing on Amazon for around 700, which is like almost half the price of what it just cost last year. So it's crazy how fast these things go down in value now this phone, I think, is over a year old, since it first came out, which is pretty insane. That time is flying this fast, and this thing made news because it was that folding phone. I liked it at that time.

I still think I like it now, but over time it's you know. Phones are inevitably going to go in this direction. Now some people, I think at the time, looked at this specific phone, and they were like. Oh, like this phone is so weird. Why would you want this phone this or that? But people may even look at the sales number that Samsung did with this device and still ask themselves like Samsung, didn't make that many of these phones like? Why is did they even do it as a waste of time? Isn't that? But you have to remember that Samsung as themselves they'd supply, so many displays to so many manufacturers that Samsung is willing to take that risk spending that much money and take you know.

Maybe nobody buys this phone for just to be ahead of the game. So then, when Apple makes their you know, foldable phone or whatever other manufacturer, OnePlus they'll reach out to Samsung or whichever manufacturer, and have them supply the displays for their phone. So they may not make that much money off the phone itself, but the technology with the display they'll make a ton of money on just like how they did with their own displays, selling them to apple and stuff. So this thing had that 6.7 inch, foldable, dynamic, AMOLED display. I thought it was pretty good.

There was no high refresh rate, but it was very interesting that Samsung was able to make a phone that looked like this and to be honest, a full year later. There still aren't that many phones that look like this apple still hasn't released a foldable phone Samsung made that z fold and I don't think they haven't made a z flip 2. Yet at least I don't think so, so we're still waiting on that phone. We're still waiting on a couple other improvements from Samsung 2, but this device, I still think, is pretty solid. Now, when it's folded, you do have that little panel on the bottom corner, so I still think that's actually pretty cool, but most people are going to use this open.

You have the USB port on. You know the bottom part, no SD card or anything like that. There was no IP certification as far as I could tell either so, keep that in mind, but still a pretty durable phone, especially if you're going to drop it. When it's folded, it's probably not going to scratch up too much, and on the back I guess folded. You have a glass back kind of thing going with it, and obviously you have that camera set up as well, which is still really cool.

So in terms of the way it feels it always felt pretty premium. The display itself was a little different. It wasn't like the best feeling display ever so. That's definitely something to keep in mind. It's pretty much.

A foldable display. It's plastic. It's not glass like a lot of these newer panels, so keep that in mind, but I don't really think it's that big of a deal, I'm assuming that if you're buying a phone like this, you probably already know what you're getting into in my opinion. So in terms of that thumbs up for me, probably now moving on to the camera side of things, this thing had a dual camera setup on the back, so it had that 12 megapixel, wide angle lens and then that 12 megapixel ultrawide sensor now this camera. If I'm gonna, be completely honest, really wasn't that good of a was like a good camera, but it was like a watered-down galaxy s20 camera.

If anything, it was about the same as something like a Galaxy S9 plus, but with an ultrawide sensor, you have the ability of doing 4k 860, which I think is great, but you didn't have like crazy cool features that you know even that galaxy s20 had at the time just a little after you didn't have that telephoto lens that you also had on some other phones too. So do keep that in mind, but I really do think for a majority of things you're going to do with that. It's probably going to be okay, things like Snapchat or Instagram, or tick-tock you're going to be able to take some really cool photos and videos. On this thing now the funny thing is with the front camera you did have a 10 megapixel front facing camera again only 4k at 30, which, as I mentioned before, is probably still good enough for a lot of people. But the other thing to keep in mind is that because this phone had the ability of you know kind of folding, you could actually, you know, go ahead and set this thing up.

Kind of you know face down and fold it up a little, and you'd actually be able to see yourself. You know from the top half of the screen, so I think that in and of itself is another really awesome thing that this one had the capability of now. Is that the biggest reason to go ahead and buy this phone? Absolutely not, but I still think it was actually pretty. You know interesting for this whole entire device in and of itself. So I think the back camera thumbs up the front camera thumbs up.

It's really not like the best camera. It's not really an amazing camera anymore, but it gets the job done for the most part, and I do have a lot of respect for this display when it comes down to it. So, in terms of this specific camera- and I just see display- I meant to say camera in terms of this camera- that pretty much covers it up now, one of the more interesting aspects about this device that still kind of messes with me a little would probably be the software and probably the battery life as well. So tackling one thing at a time the battery life and the size of this thing was 3 300 million powers. Now it did have wireless charging, but it did not have reverse wireless charging, which is kind of sad because Samsung put it in the Galaxy S10 I feel like we could have.

You know easily supplied it on the galaxy s20, but again there's nothing. We could do about it at this point, but that would have been really cool how this phone had the capability of it now stepping one step further: the battery life. In this thing again, it goes two ways, because this is a foldable phone. You just have to ask yourself: how much are you going to be using that actual big panel, because if you're just checking notifications or something like that, you can really make this thing last long, because there's that little display on the front, so you can just read your messages and stuff there. Now it's nothing like a galaxy fold, but it still gets the job done.

So that's another thing you have to keep in mind, but if you're actively, you know holding this phone with the screen open all the time, and you're playing with it this and that there may be a little of a different experience for you to be honest, you may be getting this type of you know average battery life on this thing, the resolution of the display is only 1080p. It had a pretty decent chipset, and it wasn't even a slow phone, but because one UI does take a bit of battery life inside it. You know at all times I would probably say that the 3 300 million power battery inside this was pretty average, and especially now, since it's been a little later in one UI 3 actually improved the battery life, so it may be even better now than then, but that pretty much covers up in the battery standpoint. But the software standpoint is another one of those things. That's actually been improved since the first day it came out.

So since the first day it actually went ahead and got an extra year. Software support and now an extra year of security updates, so those are some really major things about this phone and, as I mentioned before, that's just another w on this phone. So not only has it depreciated like crazy. Not only is the battery life probably has gotten better, but the software has actually been. You know improved overall too, so it's lasting almost the same amount as you would have originally thought of it last year.

So I think that's another w, in my opinion, so in terms of that, probably one of the best reasons why you should go and pick up this phone in 2021 now continuing on and ending off with the performance, this device had that Qualcomm snapdragon, 855 plus chipsets, inside it an outscore, CPU and arena 640 GPU and eight gigs of ram on really the only one model that this one had and, as I mentioned before, the phone's performance is still really, really good. This is not a slow performing phone. This is not a bad performing phone. This is a solid performing phone when it comes down to it, and I think this is one of this. You know phone's strongest, you know attributions or whatever.

The word is, I feel, like you know, the lack of 120, hertz and 90hz, or whatever does actually affect this phone more than like the chips that it has inside it. But I actually don't think it's that big of a deal and let me explain if you're doing like basic apps, if you're doing snap chats and stuff this one's going to be able to handle it perfectly fine. But if you even take it up a notch, do medium intensive, apps, perfectly fine, heavier intensive, apps and games. That's perfectly fine on this phone too, and because it is like a foldable phone, I thought the resolution of this display was going to be weird. It really isn't that bad in most games and mostly everything I've done with this- handles everything perfectly fine, and I think that's actually a really cool thing about this phone.

So I think the performance aspect is one of those things that some people may not. You know actually think about too much, but this is still a pretty you know up to speed chipset, it's still extremely fast. It's maybe like a couple generations old, but it's still perfect. For the most part, really the only thing that's missing on this phone in terms of performance standpoint and the smoothest standpoint would actually go in terms of the lack of refresh rate increment. So you know there's no 90hz or 120hz on this thing, but I think it's still.

Okay for the most part and really anything you're going to do on this phone is going to be perfectly fine, in my opinion, so in terms of performance, that's pretty much how it's sum it up and to kind of sum up this video and say answer the question: should you go and buy a Samsung Galaxy z flip in 2021? Well, this is what I'll tell you. I think if you want to get a phone, that's definitely going to wow people. If you want to get a lot of attention, when you use a phone or any device, then this is probably that phone for you. You are definitely going to feel like you, have some crazy cool device that a lot of people are going to look at you, especially if it's folded on the flip side, though no pun intended. It's still, you know a phone that is going to be a work in progress.

I think that's the best way to put it foldable devices are still in their infancy. I think they are 100 the future, so many manufacturers are going to market these things like crazy, so people are going to buy them, but I do think that there are two ways to look at it. Do you want a foldable phone, or do you not want a foldable phone? It's really up to you. There's really, no crazy cool feature that this phone has that's something like a galaxy, s10 or a note.10 doesn't already have you know, and those phones are already years old. So, even though this thing came out last year, like I said it does have a little of an older chipset, so you're going to have to ask yourself: do you want this to you now one? Do you want a foldable phone, or do you not want a foldable phone? That is ultimately what the biggest difference is.

If you want a foldable phone well, this is one of your options. This a z fold, another one, a fold foldable phone wherever the other ones are, but this is one of those options that you have, and it's still a perfect foldable phone. There's not that many phones in this caliber that are foldable and that have depreciated this much and that are this. You know all around perfect like this is still a perfect phone for the most part, it's definitely not perfect, but I think it gets the job done for the most part, so that pretty much covers it up, like I mentioned, if you want to pick it up, links will be down in the description you can get that from there and help support the channel at the same time hit the like button.
