OnePlus Nord CE 5G Camera Review

Hi and welcome to Asian Photography My name is Bhavya Desai. And today, is all about the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. As you might know, last year OnePlus entered the affordable category with their OnePlus Nord But this year they have also followed this up with another stripped-down version which is called the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. So, its price is INR 25,000/- approximately; and it has less features compared to the previous phone. The CE stands for Core Edition and in this video, we are going to test only the cameras of the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, and tell you how they perform. This phone is available in two variants in India.

The first is the 8GB RAM and 128 GB capacity And the second is 12 GB RAM and 256GB storage. And there are prices are INR 25,000/- and INR 28,000/- respectively. And they are available in 3 colours, the first is the blue void, then there is something called charcoal ink as well and silver ray is another option that is available. So what we are reviewing today here is the Blue Void and this is the capacity which has 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage. So if we talk about the look, body and feel, then their, in terms of design there is quite a lot of similarity between the OnePlus Nord and CE.

As you might remember, last year when the OnePlus Nord was launched, its back was a glass back. But in the CE, they have replaced the glass back with plastic and it also has some sort of matt finish, that means it won't get many fingerprints or marks on it in comparison with the previous edition. But there are a few changes in the design elements. And if you see, the OnePlus alert slider is missing from the CE. Which means that probably when they reduce that cost, this was one of the elements which they removed.

Now I don't know whether OnePlus users would like this or not because the alert slider is quite synonymous with the OnePlus brand because it is very easy for people to maneuver in terms of UI. Now another good thing is that the 3.5 mm jack is back with the OnePlus Nord CE which was missing in the OnePlus Nord. If you are a user habitual to using wired headphones and you like it more in comparison with the wireless headset, then that is going to be a very good bonus for you. But overall in terms of design, I really like it. I think it's quite nice, it's simple it's clean, it's good to operate with one single hand, it's also light.

So I think in that department, it's pretty decent. If we talk about the camera specs, then the OnePlus Nord CE 5G is stripped-down in terms of specs as well as compared to the OnePlus Nord. In the OnePlus Nord, you got a 4 camera set up or a quad camera set up. In comparison now, the CE comes with only three cameras. But there is a bump up in terms of its primary camera.

The OnePlus Nord had a 48 megapixel primary camera which now has been bumped up to a 64 megapixel primary uh camera in the CE. The second camera here, that basically is an eight megapixel ultra wide camera and then the third camera is the two megapixel monochrome camera which is similar in the OnePlus 9 Pro or the OnePlus 9. Now in comparison if you look at the Nord, the two extra additional cameras you got, that was one 5 megapixel depth camera and then there was also a macro camera. So that was the difference in terms of what we see behind in the scene. Now if you talk about the front camera as well so there also there has been a little bit of a drop down.

The Nord had a 32 megapixel front camera and this one has a 16 megapixel camera. So these are the changes that you will find in terms of the CE as well the Nord So now let's dive into the camera performance and in order to test the camera performance as you know, there are various parameters that we check in order to check this. The first thing we consider is the image quality. So overall the image quality of this camera is quite decent meaning the images were sharp but with the main primary camera we felt the images came slightly underexposed and the saturation was decent. And if in comparison to this you see the shots from the ultra wide camera, we again thought the images were slightly underexposed but they were over saturated, although the sharpness was still maintained.

And if we zoom in and see then you'll notice that in this category of phones, you won't get optical image zoom. Everything is basically electronic zoom and even the pictures we shot on 2x in it saturation; the images were well exposed but a bit oversaturated again. And there definitely is a clear loss of details in the image sharpness But I honestly don't expect much from a phone in this category or neither can you expect a lot The reason is because these are not really cameras which will give you some great details when it comes to this sort of a performance especially in zooming in But there is a very high possibility that in future software updates there are quite high chances for its improvement in image quality. The reason is because OnePlus is usually know to ramp up their software updates very very fast in order to improve their handsets. Now if we talk about the Portrait Mode, the images are quite decently lit in this mode.

Again there is a bit of oversaturation But as usual, if we really see in this phone then edge detectetion is not really as crystal smooth as you would like to see in some of the other phones in this category Now if we talk about the low light images, I was really blown away by the low light images that I saw. Like you can see in this image, the image is actually very well lit And in this case, because of the over saturation and compensation that this phone does, the images have become more pleasing to the eye and they look really beautiful, especially, as a nightscape. Now if you talk about the front camera as well so front camera is quite decent, it is a 16 megapixel camera like we mentioned earlier so in terms of selfies as well, I would say it's quite nice if you want to use it. Again the edge-detection is not something which is up to the mark, but it is not something that I would like to complain about Because I'm sure that these are things which will be improved in the software updates to come If we talk about the video specs, the OnePlus Nord CE shoots 4k up to 30 frames per second and full HD up to 60 frames per second. It can also shoot time lapses at 30 frames per second in both 4k as well as 1080p.

Talking about the overall performance, the video performance I would say is quite decent. I mean in 4k plus full HD, its sharpness it decently maintained it It was not something which was overly great, but one thing that we noticed was that there was a slight bluish tinge into the sort of a videos that we were shooting. Especially if you zoom in, so definitely there was a little bit of loss of detail as well and the bluish tinge kept in increasing a little. Now maybe there is a possibility again that the new software updates this might be improved upon and we will just have to wait for that. So what do we think about the OnePlus Nord CE 5G? Especially about its camera performance.

If we talk about the camera performance, its camera performance at best is average It's not something which is extra ordinary In the images department, it will give quite sharp images but they will be bit oversaturated which I think will be improved after a software update. If we talk about the details then, it will maintain the details unless it is very low light or if you zoom in However, I don't think any phone in this category will give you that high performance in this department Talking about the video performance, it shoots 4k plus Full HD and it gives decent output in it too, but there is a slight bluish tinge sometimes, especially when you zoom in But if you see the 25,000 - 28,000 price range that it is in, there are other manufacturers from whom you can get more affordable options But for INR 25,00O in the mid range, what you get with the Nord CE is a phone which is quite nice in terms of design the display is really good. It's quite fantastic to be very honest and the software, which is oxygen, is quite top-notch. So you get overall a pretty balanced handset for the price that you are paying.
