What's up everybody, I'm Alex, and in this video we're going to talk about the OnePlus note 2. I have been using this device for quite a time, and I'll share with you my honest thoughts about it. So OnePlus made another mid-range device that features good hardware, good design and a new camera system, which is maybe one of the most important things the north 2 comes with the MediaTek dimension 1200 chips, 6, 8 or 12 gigabytes of ram and 128 or 256 gigabytes of storage, depending on the needs you have and depending on the version that you're going to buy. The density 1200 from MediaTek is a surprisingly good tip, providing great performance both for day-to-day use and gaming. I've been playing Call of Duty on this phone and the performance was on point. It maintained a pretty much solid fps throughout the whole game and the max temperatures that I saw here were 42 degrees.
I know that 42 degrees is not something very cool, but it's not that big of a deal either. So the phone doesn't feel that hot in the hand the multitasking can be done on a very great level. Without noticing any stutter lag or freezing on the phone, and you can switch between other applications very fast, and that is because of the powerful chip that you have and because of the amount of memory that you have also. My version is with 12 gigabytes of memory, and I have to say that this is plenty. The design isn't something new for OnePlus, but it's new for the north lineup, and it now looks more like a 9 series phone.
It features a similar camera bump from the 9 series that you have seen, and the main difference here is that you don't have the Hasselblad color science here, and you don't have the Hasselblad logo either. The note 2 comes in three different colors, as mine is blue case. I like how it looks and the fact that fingerprints are not that visible on the back of this one overall, the phone feels very nice and very high quality in the hand, and I have to mention that it is very comfortable while laying in the hand, because of the curved back the curve back is so nicely made that you will feel this phone comfortable for sure, and the other thing is that it's not such a big device and many people, even with smaller hint, are going to find it comfortable to use buttons, are a bit more high position that what I'm used to. But overall it's okay. Here we can see a slider for changing the ring profiles, unlike on the north c 5g, and you have to keep in mind that this slider is one of the most noticeable features on OnePlus phones and I find it to be convenient to use the buttons have a very nice click.
They don't wobble and don't throttle around. So I give OnePlus a point for the build quality. The whole front of the note 2 is a beautiful, 6.43 inch, fluid AMOLED screen with a resolution of 4hd plus and 90hz refresh rate. The good thing about the screen is that the colors are nice vivid and the panel itself is bright enough. The PPI is good for the size of the screen too coming at 410.
The panel looks great, and the size is just perfect, but the fact that we see 120 hertz, refresh 18 other brands in this price range is a bit off, because here you have only 90 hertz. Nonetheless, the work with the phone is still fluid and pleasant, both in everyday use and gaming. As I said before, while we are still on the screen and gaming part of the phone, I have to say that the haptic motors here have been changed and these feel better. Now these feel better than the previous word series, because these are more powerful and these are more click. If I can say it like this overall, they feel very, very nice, and now they stand up to the phones in the higher classes.
The sound of the note 2 is also good, as here you have stereo speakers. The only downside here is that the bottom speaker overtakes the top one, but I don't think that it is something that crucial, because it's not very noticeable. If you are not looking for it, the sound is rich. The separation is good. Everything is well detailed.
The speakers get very loud, and I have to say that I cannot complain about the speakers. I love the fact that here we have stereo speakers, which is very well appreciated. The only thing that I can complain because, of course I have to complain about something- is the lack of 3.5 millimeter jack that we see coming back in some mid-range devices. But unfortunately, here you don't have such but don't get sad about it, because the north 2 has a Bluetooth 5.2, and it supports all kinds of codecs. It supports optics HDL docking, whatever you can think of, so you can enjoy very nice wireless experience, also with wireless headphones.
The camera system is the greatest improvement here compared to the previous word device. Now we have an IMAX 766 sensors that we see in the 9 series. The sensor itself is good, and it's backed up with the AI features of the MediaTek chipset. I have to say that now the camera of this device is way better than the original word in every single way, except of the video, and we are going to talk about it a bit later. The main sensor has an aperture of 1.88 and the pixel size is not that big, as it only comes at one micrometer. The main sensor has optical image stabilization, which is a good thing, because some devices in the mid-range don't come with an optical image stabilization.
I think that every single device in the mid-range should have some features like this and not with an electronic image stabilization, because it's not on that level. The image quality of the main sensor is good, and I feel happy with the results I get even in low light situations. The sensor perform well with the refined nights cape function. The dynamic range is good for this class of devices and the colors are vibrant, and it feels perfect for social media post no matter if you are posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or whatever you're using. The second sensor is 8 megapixel ultrawide, with viewing angles of 119.7 degrees, which is strange not to be able to fit a 120 degree sensor here. The aperture is 2.25, and I have to say that this sensor is not that good. As I expected here, the detail is smudged a little and I don't like the over sharpening of it if you're using it in the darker situations.
I don't think that you'll be very happy with the result. Overall, if you are not that picky about the ultra white images, I think that you're going to be okay, but for my eye it's not that pleasant. Another big change in OnePlus lineup is that here we have now a 32 megapixel front facing camera, and I think that these are the most megapixels that they have put in the front-facing camera. The image is good. The detail is good.
The dynamic range is also decent, and I love that it now has some features like uh group selfie photos which can focus up to five faces at the time, so there won't be any blurred faces in the photos. Overall, I can give a thumbs up to the front camera and for a device in this price range in class. I think it's okay. I have mixed feelings about some things about the video, but now I'm leaving you to the samples. So this is a video sample from the front camera of the OnePlus north 2, and I have to say that it's pretty good.
It's an improvement to the previous generation. I don't like the fact that we are also limited to full HD of the resolution. I wanted to see here 4k, but unfortunately we don't have such thing. That's what you get from the front camera, and this is a video sample from the main sensor of the OnePlus note 2. I think the quality is okay.
The dynamic range is also okay. I like the fact that we have an is here, so the stabilization is kicking in and everything looks. Fine now we are going to switch to the auto right sensor for video mode and see what's going on, and I have to mention that with the main sensor, you have a resolution of 4k up to 30 fps. This is mainly what you're getting from the ultrawide sensor of the OnePlus note 2. Uh, two things that I don't like here.
First, the DDO is not that present, and the second thing is that the maximum resolution is limited to full HD at 30 fps. This is something that I didn't expect here. I suppose that we are going to see 4k 30fps, but unfortunately we don't have such thing. Also, the image stabilization is okay, but it's not something spectacular. The software is good, just like with most of the OnePlus devices it comes with android 11 and oxygen OS 11.3 pre-installed. In this version of the shell, we can see that we have more animations for the fingerprint, unlocked and new, always on screens.
I really like the fact that the double tap to lock or unlock feature is present here, because I use it frequently it's very convenient for me, because, when the phone is on the desk, I want to unlock it with a double tap. It's very easy. If I want to lock it again with the double tap, it happens, to be great, the guys from OnePlus are stating that the note 2 is getting two years of major updates and three years of security patches, which is a good thing, and in this case this device will serve you for quite a time and, of course, if you're not breaking it, throwing it around or things like this, it will. Last you one of the software things that I want to talk here is about the AI features that are coming because of the MediaTek density chip, and here we have two things. First, it is the AI resolution, and the second thing is the AI color.
I turned them on and after short time, I turned them off again, and this is why first, the AI resolution is just sharpening the videos that you are watching and, for example, if you are watching a video on YouTube, and it is 480p, AI algorithm will kick in, and it will sharpen the video, and in this case it will try to simulate a higher resolution. In my opinion, it's not succeeding that well and that's why I turned off this feature. The other feature is AI colors, which is boosting the colors a little while you're watching videos and if you're, watching grass or nature or animals, and things like this, everything is perfect until you happen to watch a human being, because everyone looks orange, and I have to say that I'm not happy with this result and that's why I turned off this feature. Otherwise, it's a good thing for OnePlus to be able to implement many AI features in the phone, and I hope that they find strength to fix them in the future. Updates that they have promised.
Last but not least, is the battery. Here is the same as the 9 series phones, and you have 4 500 William hours, 4 500, William hours, dual cell battery, which is another thing that is better in few ways than the single cell batteries. Also, you have a 65 watt charger, which uses basically the same technology from the 9 and the 9 pro. Also, here you can see that from my extensive usage of the phone, I have something like 15 percent left and I have been using the phone for almost 24 hours and the screen on time was 5 hours, which is brilliant for such a device. Overall, I can say that the north 2 is a great mid-range device providing enough power for all kinds of tasks from everyday usage to gaming.
The improved camera system is another good thing to see here, and the fact that it comes with such a great battery is very well appreciated. I enjoyed the device very much my experience with it was very good, and I have to say that I can give it a thumbs up, and I can rate it somewhere around 8 8.5 from the scale to 10, as there are some AI features that I don't like, but overall the phone, in my opinion, is good and from the experience that I have, I can recommend it so guys.
