OnePlus 9 Hasselblad Camera First Look

Over, the past few weeks, we've seen a handful of leaks regarding the OnePlus 9 and the nine pro hinting at a collaboration between Hasselblad and OnePlus in regard to the cameras on the upcoming smartphones OnePlus even got into the action on its own, with Pete LAU, the company's CEO sharing a picture of the earth captured from the moon, which was famously captured with a Hasselblad camera on one of the apollo missions, while also teasing a March 8th announcement. Well, if you check your calendars march, 8th has officially arrived. I'm nick gray, and this is the first look at the OnePlus and Hasselblad smartphone camera collaboration. Today, OnePlus and Hasselblad did make that announcement official and while I was a little worried that the collaboration between the two companies wouldn't be more than just a simple handshake for cross-promotional purposes. There actually seems to be some real collaboration to improve the cameras on the OnePlus 9 series and other OnePlus devices in the future. If you don't think that OnePlus is keen on actually improving the camera technology on its smartphones, this 150 million dollars- that's right.150 million dollars is being invested by OnePlus over the next three years. That will prove us otherwise in Pete LAU's own words, with OnePlus top of the line, hardware and computational photography and Hasselblad's rich aesthetic knowledge and traditional photography.

I'm confident that the OnePlus 9 series will be a major leap forward with our ability to deliver a premium flagship camera. Let's just hope that OnePlus can actually deliver on that promise. The good news is that it sounds like OnePlus and Hasselblad are teaming up in the same way that Huawei did with Lacey all those years ago before that Huawei smartphone cameras were honestly forgettable, but once they started working with Lacey, they delivered dramatic improvements in their flagship smartphones that pushed them past Samsung and even apple. Now, if OnePlus and Hasselblad manage to do the same, we could be looking at the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership between the two companies and honestly, more importantly, the beginnings of flagship devices from OnePlus that have amazing cameras and that's good for the consumers. While the collaboration announcement was just made, Hasselblad and OnePlus have been working hard on delivering improvements to the camera experience on the OnePlus 9 phones, which are coming out later this month.

The first phase will start with how images are actually processed on OnePlus smartphones, with Hasselblad weighing in on sensor calibration and color tuning. The jointly developed natural color calibration standard that they're putting together aims to deliver more natural, looking images from new smartphones going forward. Those phones will also include a new Hasselblad pro camera mode that will give users the ability to fine-tune the controls on their own tweaking ISO focus exposure times, white balance and a lot more and capturing images that will deliver richer, colors and higher dynamic range that we haven't seen before on previous OnePlus devices. As far as the camera hardware goes, the company has revealed a few details with OnePlus 9 devices, sporting free form lenses that will practically eliminate edge distortion in ultra-wide photos, which sounds pretty cool. The main camera will also feature a custom Sony mix 789 sensors, which is the largest imaging sensor that we've ever seen on an OnePlus device.

To date. The sensor will be capable of capturing 12-bit raw images with 64 times more color depth than previous sensors that have been used, leading to improved dynamic range for photos for HDR photos and videos, and the ability to capture 4k video at 120 frames per second or even 8k. Video at 30fps OnePlus is saving the final details regarding the remaining cameras on the two OnePlus 9 devices for the announcement later this month, but both devices are expected to have an ultra-wide camera and a zoom camera on the back, as well, with the pro model, having at least one more sensor on the back, which is still unknown at this point. But the biggest improvements will be coming over the next three years, actually with Hasselblad helping to guide the technology standards on the mobile camera, experience on future OnePlus devices and developing innovative imaging technology which they're going to be calling the Hasselblad camera for mobile. Some of those improvements were mentioned today in the announcement, which include a panoramic camera with a 140 degree field of view, which is absolutely amazing, and then a t lens technology with lightning fast focus for the front-facing camera, though we don't know when either of those cameras will be making their debut.

Hopefully it's not going to be too long. As for the OnePlus 9 series, thankfully we don't have to wait too much longer, as both phones are going to be making their debut on March 23rd at 10 am so let me know what you think of today's announcements and what it means for the OnePlus 9 series and other future OnePlus devices as well and make sure you subscribe to the channel I'm going to be doing quite a few camera tests, with the upcoming OnePlus 9 and the 9 pro to see if the Hasselblad integration and the collaboration that they've done with these devices actually makes a difference. Thank you guys. So much for watching, and I'll catch you in the next one.
