Hey guys how's it going now. This right here is the OnePlus 8 pro the phone that I've been using as my daily driver for well ever since it was launched, so I've been loving it and while I've tried different phones on and off in that period as well, the eight pro has always been in my pocket and I just keep going back to this phone. I genuinely love this phone. I love the display the design everything about it, but the main question still remains that does the phone justify its price tag for peace, 55, 000 or other better devices out there, or is this thing even overpriced? Well, this is one from guiding tech, and this is my long term review of the OnePlus 8 pro. Let's get started, okay, so, let's start off with the design. First honestly, I just love it.
It feels that premium I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It genuinely feels like a premium design. That's it. It still is a bit heavy, especially from the top, of course not as hefty as an OnePlus 7 pro but yeah when compared with the normal OnePlus 8. This definitely feels like a heavy phone.
The curved edges on the sides feel premium, but of course they do come with a sense of fear that plus the massive camera bump at the back basically mean that I had to use a case with this phone, which also brings me to an important point see ever since the phone launched. While it's been a long time, you can't really find good cases for the OnePlus 8 pro, especially from third party retailers. As such. I had to use this this this for this blue sandstone case from OnePlus and uh yeah. I was warned about this case right before buying it even uh during buying it and a lot of you guys commented saying that you know it will get dirty.
Furthermore, I ignored it, but well you guys were right because it's dirty AF, like literally to the point where I've tried, isopropyl alcohol. Furthermore, I've tried different means to clean. It just doesn't work so yeah. If you're, someone like me, who isn't that daring to use the phone naked, and you're looking for a good case. Well, there aren't a lot of good options out there.
Now, apart from that, I think the in hand feel is great of the OnePlus 8 pro, and I feel that is one area where the curved edges come in handy pun, intended of course. Overall I don't have any complaints with the design of the OnePlus 8 pro, but I do have to say that if you want to compete with the Samsung's in that premium flagship space, you still need to do a little of work on your weight balancing, because that is one thing where Samsung devices excel. You know the premium devices with that glass body and all the top of the line hardware still have a very lightweight design, so yeah. That is something that the OnePlus 8 pro or maybe basically, the OnePlus 8 t series can work upon next up, there's a display, and why do I love it? Quad HD at 120 hertz without breaking a sweat. Everything feels super smooth and nice on this device, and the AMOLED panel is probably the best OnePlus has incorporated to date, and I chose because not only are the colors great and punchy on this, the panel can get quite bright as well now, while we're on the topic of display.
Let me just highlight this one thing: there was this controversy around the OnePlus 8 and the headphones display about that green trend and black crushed problems. Well, I have a couple of things to say one. I did not face any of those issues on my unit, thankfully, but even if you do, I just want to highlight the fact that those issues, those so-called issues, are just the natural nature of AMOLED displays, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just a one. It's just a certain condition that you have to push your device to achieve that kind of uh, unfavorable condition and, to be very honest, most of you guys won't even notice that in day-to-day uses I mean I have watched dark and black mirror on Netflix, with the hdr10 plus mode enabled on the OnePlus 8 pro I've.
All my apps are in the dark mode, and I've used this phone late at night. You know if you follow me on Twitter. I am always up at 3 4 in the night and with the lowest brightness available and trust me. I haven't noticed any issues whatsoever moving on there's the camera of the device and okay. So that is one thing about OnePlus devices that has always been the trade.
The devices at the launch have a mediocre camera and then OnePlus rolls out a lot of frequent updates and the camera works great, usually as compared to what it was at the launch date, but the OnePlus 8 pro. The story is slightly different, which is the fact that, even at the launch date, the camera on the 8 pro was pretty good. With the new updates, the camera has become even better, and that is one of the biggest highlights of a long term review, because OnePlus devices in the long term do work on the camera slightly I'll, get to that point in a bit but yeah they do work on their camera and optimizing. The overall experience to some extent. We've already done a couple of camerae: comparisons of the OnePlus 8 pro with the iPhone uh 11 pro and the galaxy s20, the links to which will be in the description box, and I have to say, while the 8 pro does not outrightly beat them, it definitely gives both the premium devices a run for their money.
The camera on this is literally the best OnePlus has produced till date. It's not to say it's the best camera but yeah. It's definitely the best that OnePlus has produced today. Now, coming back to the point where I said that OnePlus works a bit on optimizing, the camera experience well not to a massive extent, but there's a bigger story around it. So obviously this is nothing confirmed and I don't have a real word on it, but this is my own personal.
Take on this almost 60 to 70 percent of the users about one plus devices that I personally know of and even that I've interacted with on forums and on uh communities or on Reddit. They all just resort to installing Guam on their devices. Guam on the OnePlus 8 pro produces excellent results. I mean it's comparable to the pixel devices, if not better, and that is one important point. So if you're a company like if you're someone working at OnePlus, you have this thing.
Instead of working on optimizing, your camera, how about just making it more compatible with g-cam mods, so yeah? Next up, we have the software part, which is also one of the biggest and the most crucial aspects when talking about a long-term review of a phone, so the time of shoot we are in August and the phone is already in the august security patch. So that's great. The phone has also received a lot of security updates, like I talked about, and the experience has been great so far. One of the biggest updates that I have to highlight, though, is the fact that the 8 pro is also part of the oxygen OS 11 beta. I recently installed it on my phone and well, it's not completely stable.
It's definitely great and also gives you an insight of what all to expect in the upcoming builds of oxygen OS, which obviously the 8 pro will receive. Speaking of oxygen vs 11. I've already done a thorough video talking about all the new features introduced in the new android 11 based oxygen, OS update so yeah the link to which will be in the description box below or there's a card here, so yeah ease of use, whatever you want to do just check that video out, because trust me for a one plus user. That is something to definitely know about, so yeah in terms of software. Everything with the eight pro has been good, and the future also looks quite promising at least till the time the 8t series comes out, because then you know the priority changes now moving on.
We have the performance part and, let's just be honest, the 865 chipset is a beast. Yes, the ROG phone 3 has the 865 plus chipset, but unless you're super serious about mobile gaming, this chipset offers pretty much everything you need, and then some day-to-day usage has been great on this phone. I've never noticed a lab whatsoever. The great ram management is also there. There's also the optimized ram boost feature inside the software, so yeah multitasking is an easy, easy task on the 8 pro.
I'm talking about installing more than 200 apps and not noticing any lag and literally using all of my ram available, because I have like way too many social media accounts and I just keep juggling between all of them by listening to Spotify or watching a YouTube video here and there with background play, enabled stuff like that, and obviously there is the gaming part. So gaming on the 8 pro is great. The device doesn't heat that much and I guess it does heat, obviously, but it's nothing uncomfortable or anything so yeah. That also is a great factor. Now speaking of gaming, I have to highlight the fact that OnePlus, recently partnered with PUBG to has to bring the 90 fps mode to PUBG mobile and trust me playing PUBG mobile at 90 fps on the OnePlus 8 pro is a truly great experience, I'm just waiting for a 120, fps mode, but yeah I mean fingers crossed but yeah overall, experience of the phone has been absolutely great.
Next up this battery life and I have to say the overall battery life performance of the OnePlus 8 pro has been great. In fact, it has improved significantly with the new updates, I'm talking about getting six hours of screen on time with quad HD, 120 hertz, and you know just getting through the entire day without any issues, I still have a little of juice left at night. So if I just want to say, watch a video or just play a game or two of PUBG- it's not like. I have to run for a charger now speaking of charger. That is one area where I do have a bit of complaint, see the OnePlus 8 pro comes with the 30t warp charge, which is great, except that it's not I mean.
Yes, it does charge the phone fast, but I'm a guy who's just switched the 8 pro after using the Realme x2 pro for a very long time, and that phone came with a 55 charging device. Now phones are even launching with 100 watt bricks, so that is something that OnePlus really needs to work on. Obviously they can't change things with the eight pro but yeah, at least with the 80 series. I just hope they make the jump to 55 or 60 watt charging, because trust me with the way things are moving, and the way technology is adapting. You know you need to give a bit of fast charging technology to your devices and that shouldn't be an issue considering all of these Chinese companies are sister companies, and they have this one single BBK parent company.
So now another thing in terms of charging is the fact that the 8 pro is the first one device to support wireless charging, and I know there's this debate about why you should go for wireless charging when wired charging is fast, so one plus kind of ends that debate, considering that the wireless charger also comes with 30 watt fast charging, except that they did not provide us with a unit, nor was a unit available to purchase when the phone launched for a very long time. In fact, it just recently uh went up for sale on the OnePlus website and, while I haven't tried it out, I've been using the OnePlus 8 pro with my AMX wireless charger. Things have been working fine. Obviously it charges slowly because OnePlus will charge fast only with its proprietary charger, so yeah that's a bit of a shaky experience, but trust me. I have to say this: wireless charging has been a game.
Changer trust me, it's the ease of use it comes with, and for someone like me, who's super lazy and does not want to haggle around with cables. When you're just sitting on your desk, you can just put your phone on a wireless charger or a dock, whatever kind of wireless charger you have, and it's like. Your phone just keeps on charging, and you can just pick it up. Take a call put it back, it's just over quite easy, so yeah wireless charging is not supposed to be faster. It's just supposed to be easier and I think that's a good way of putting things about wireless charging.
Trust me. If you ever get the chance to try out wireless charging, you will use it so. Finally, the question is: does the 8 pro justify its price tag? Well, the closest competitor to the 8 pro is. Obviously the 10, which I haven't, got a chance to try out, but if I did, I think I would still pick the OnePlus 8 pro because of that display and oxygen OS, not to say that mini is bad but yeah. My personal preferences will make me slide to the oxygen OS and even as a critic, I think I feel safe in saying that oxygen noise is well widely more preferable than and mini other competitors are the ROG phone three, and it's a great phone.
No doubt it's a great phone and we all at guiding deck loved it, but I still have got that feeling with that phone is that it's just meant for the pure enthusiast, like okay, if I was using to roger phone three, I would be happy if you guys were using it and if you are a gamer you'd be happy, but for normal user, probably not that much. What OnePlus has done is that it has carved that image of offering that premium features while being an enthusiastic device. So what happens? Is that any normal business user, or even normal kids going to college and everyone? They look at the OnePlus phone, and they get that premium feel, but the design is something that everyone can relate to so yeah. That is one factor where I feel the OnePlus manages to beat the RSV. The design looks like a premium phone rather than a gaming phone uh.
Then you have the other competitors like the Samsung Galaxy s20 series, and if I had the money yeah, I would buy the s20 series uh, although the Enos chipset would be a letdown but yeah that premiums that comes with Samsung devices, something that obviously makes for a great experience so yeah overall, I have to say for a price tag of rupees 55 000, the OnePlus 8 pro is definitely justified, and even in today's market, while I don't see a discount coming anytime soon, even after 55 000, the 8 pro is a great deal. In fact, it is priced way too cheaper than compared to the US counterparts so yeah. If you are living in India- and you are considering the OnePlus 8 pro great choice- man literally great choice- I can recommend it wholeheartedly. I haven't faced any issues with the phone and yeah it's a through and through premium device.
