I think you're really going to like this camera comparison, hi guys it's KJ, then my tech guy here, and I've been pretty busy over the past couple of weeks. But I'm excited to share this camera comparison with you today in this video I'll, be comparing the cameras found on the OnePlus 6t and on the Google Pixel 3 XL, the Google Pixel 3 XL should win this one, but with the price tag of 900 compared to the 550 price tag of the OnePlus 6t. I wanted to see how both cameras based off head to head in this video I'll, be comparing the cameras in various lighting conditions both indoors and outdoors, and also look at the video and audio quality of both phones make sure to stick around to the end of the video to see how both phones night modes perform and to check out a giveaway. I have going on. Let's get right into it: the OnePlus 6t sports, a main 16 megapixel sensor that has an aperture of f 1.7. Its second camera is 20 megapixels, but has the same aperture and focal length as its main sensor.
OnePlus says that the second camera helps out with portrait mode shots. The pixel 3 XL has a single 12.2 megapixel sensor, with a slightly smaller aperture at f 1.8. It can capture impressive portrait mode images with just software. Both phones are capable of shooting 4k video at 30 frames per second, whereas the OnePlus 6t can also capture 4k video at 60 frames per second. In terms of the front cameras of both phones, the OnePlus 6ts camera actually has doubled a megapixel count of either of the pixel 3's front-facing cameras.
These cameras can record 1080p video at up to 30 frames per second, I'm going to first take a look at images shot in good, even lighting. This first picture shows a lot of the trends that you'll notice throughout the video. Both phones picked up a great amount of detail. Google tends to go with a more contrast natural look, whereas OnePlus tends to take the brighter more saturated images. This image is complex with many things going on.
In my opinion, I think the colors look a lot more true to life than the pixel 3s, whereas the OnePlus 6 produces a picture that is overall brighter, but seems a bit washed out with some details being lost where the OnePlus 16 really impressed me was in its high dynamic range capabilities in shots like this one, where the background is very bright, the pixel 3s actually struggle when it's not in its night mode. The OnePlus 6t is able to keep the foreground much brighter, while also keeping the buildings in the background brighter overall in nice, even lighting, it really comes down to the type of look that you prefer. The pixel 3 is really shine when it comes to the image processing of its portrait mode. Shots don't get me wrong. The portrait shots taken on the OnePlus 6t are not bad, but the pixel 3 XL consistently picks up more details on the subject, while doing mostly the better job, with the edge detection as well.
Thanks to Google's impressive, AI algorithms and image processing in general, I should note that the OnePlus 6t is able to take the wider angled portrait shots. If you like that perspective, better, the pixel 3's impressive image processing with people, carries over to its selfie cameras. The wide angle camera even allows you to get more in the frame. If that's what you'd like when I tried the portrait modes of both, the pixel 3 actually simply took the much better picture in terms of edge detection and colors. This next set of images that I'll show you were shot in more challenging lighting conditions and the results actually surprised me.
This first image again shows just how impressive the OnePlus 6t's HDR capabilities are. Yes, in my opinion, the 60s image is a bit over saturated, but it did do the much better job of keeping both the foreground and background brighter. If we zoom in, we can see that some parts of the pixel 3's image are so dark that details and colors are just lost here. The 6t is able to produce the brighter image once again, but I would like to mention that I think the pixel 3 produced colors that were closer to what I actually saw outside still the OnePlus 6t is really impressing me with its HDR. There were several light sources in this image and while the 6t was able to produce the overall brighter image, once again, I just feel as if the pixel 3 did the better job, with keeping all sources of light properly exposed with minimal image noise.
Overall, both phone manufacturers flaunted their night modes. So I wanted to see how both phones performed when it got dark. At night, this image was shot in just a standard, auto mode on both phones. The OnePlus 6ts image actually looks like it, has less overall image noise and did a pretty good job with also maintaining colors and keeping the overall image bright. But when we switched to the night modes of both phones, it seems as if the pixel 3 got the information it needed, because it looks like it created light.
This dark image will show you just how impressive the pixel 3's night mode actually is. When I switched both to their night modes, the 6ts image got slightly brighter, whereas the pixel 3 was actually able to capture a lot in the image that the 6t wasn't able to see at all outside the pixel 3's night mode continued to shine. Both phones were actually able to take some impressive pictures, given the terrible lighting conditions, but in my opinion, the pixel 3's night mode was consistently a step-up from the 6t. The pixel 3's images were consistently just a bit sharper a bit clearer and showed more accurate colors. Now I'm going to take a look at the video shot on.
Both phones know that the OnePlus 6t is capable of shooting 4k video at up to 60 frames per second, but I set both to 4k at 30 frames per second, because that's what this video is uploaded at right away. I just noticed how much more natural the colors are on the pixel 3's video, a lot of people like the look of the OnePlus 6ts video more, and I completely understand the mindset of those people, but to me, OnePlus went a bit overboard with the saturation in the 4k video everything looked like it had a blue tint to it. In the 60s video, I would say that the 6t actually had the better stabilization out of the two. Despite how good the pixel 3 stabilization is, the video you prefer will actually come down to the type of look that you prefer. I have said this in previous videos, but I do think it is much easier to up the saturation of a video than to remove saturation that was automatically added for you.
Now, I'm testing the front two cameras of both phones, there's not too much noise out, but it is kind of windy. So I'm wondering how both phones pick up my voice. I'm also curious how the image stabilization of both phones turns out. Let me know in the comment section which camera phone you prefer and which one picks up the better colors in terms of the front, video qualities of both phones. They both took very clear video.
I would say that I would prefer colors somewhere in between the two phones. The pixel 3 is on the duller side, whereas the OnePlus 6t is on the over saturated side. I was impressed with the stabilization of the 6t, which did look noticeably more stable than the pixel 3. in regard to audio both were pretty bad. The 6t had the higher volume, but sounded noticeably more tinny than on the pixel 3, which still also sounded tinny.
Our standard of quality for pictures is rising every year with the advancements of image, processing and camera sensors, and that's great, because even manufacturers like OnePlus, are able to include camera systems on their phones that are fantastic. If I had to choose a camera system that won, it would still be the pixel 3. , but that goes without saying that there were many pictures that I took with the OnePlus 6t. That surprised me and were just very quality in the beginning of this video I mentioned the giveaway, and it's actually, this pretty cool electric vacuum by comfier. I have an extra one to give away.
