Nokia C1 Unboxing and Review

Hey guys, it’s Eric here and this is my Nokia C1 unboxing and review. I’d be giving this one away to one lucky subscriber, more details at the end of this video. The packaging is pretty familiar. Inside, we have the device wrapped in plastic. This is the black colour, it also comes in red. We have the removable battery.

Let’s keep it to the side for now. We have the user guide, we can that there is no support for 4G/LTE on this guy. In a separate compartment, we have a 5 watt charger, a micro USB cable and a pair of earphones. On the front you have a 5.45 inch 480p IPS LCD display with 18 by 9 aspect ratio On top of that display you have a 5 megapixel camera with flash and nokia branding by the corner. On the back you have a 5 Megapixel camera with flash, Nokia branding and a speaker on the bottom.

The back is of course removable coz that’s where the battery goes. You have dual 3G SIM slots and an SD Card slot. On the left you have a dedicated Google Assistant buttonOn the right you have your power button and volume rocker. On the top you have a 3.5 mm headphone jack and On the bottom, you have a microphone and micro USB portThe design of the Nokia C1 is pretty basic, the build is plastic and it uses a 2D glass. Very light weight and compact, easy for one handed use.

The display will not play HD videos on YouTube which is a huge bummer for most. It is however what you can expect from a phone at this price point and does not look too washed out. Sunlight legibility is below average tho. I was surprised this even came with adaptive brightness, something I usually turn off. This comes in 16gigs of storage and 1 gig of RAM.

You get about 12Gigs of available storage. It shipped with Android 9 Pie Go edition. You get a lot of lite version Google apps, some of which I’ve never seen before like YouTube music and Gallery Go. This is stock android so we have the same bare essentials in the settings as any other. We have face unlock and it is surprisingly fast + works in poorly lit environments.

It is not nearly as secure as a fingerprint reader which we don’t get. Here’s what that back firing speaker sounds like side by side the Xiaomi Mi A3. In terms of performance, this uses the Spreadtrum SC7731E Quad Core CPU clocked at 1.3ghz. It’s an entry level chipset and will take a few seconds to launch even the most mundane apps but it will get the job done for lite users who usually do the occasional WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, phone calls, texts etcetera. If you want to do heavy duty stuff or even gaming, you will need something higher up Nokia’s line up.

It won’t run Graphics intensive games like PUBG but you can play the not so demanding ones like Smash Hit. I didn’t experience lag while playing this one. About battery life, the 2500mAh battery on this guy may seem small but it only has to power a small 480P display plus it uses a not so powerful chipset that doesn’t give you heating issues while running tasks. I got through a full day of mostly hammering on social media all on WiFi. This gave me over 10 hours of screen on time with 30 percent left to spare.

It will easily take you through 2 full days of use without needing to charge. It took me 3 hours and 10 minutes for a full charge The camera on this guy is really bare essentials. You get get time-lapse and that’s about it. Here are some of the photos that I took. It is what you’d expect from this price point, entry level looking photo quality across the board.

It won’t pass for photos shot on a mid-range phone, not even on social media. Selfie flash does come in handy. It records videos in 720p from the front and back camera. Overall, I’d say that there are levels to entry level phones and this one is on the bottom of HMD’s Smartphone line up. It definitely offers more value than the Nokia 1 from 2 years ago ever did and at a much lower price point too.

I will actually recommend it to first time smartphone users who will not mind living without 4G/LTE speeds, the elderly, kids and teens on a budget. If you think you can get a lag free 2gig RAM super amazing camera smartphone at its price point, think again. You don’t want to end up with some generic phone with bogus specs. Trust me on the one. It will save you money in the long run.

The Nokia C1 is priced at N18,400 Naira which converts to $50 US dollars and you can purchase on Jumia or any major retail store nation wide. I’d be leaving a link in the description box should you wish to shop on Jumia. To enter this giveaway, simply share a link to the video on Twitter, telling me why you deserve to win.
