Never ASK ALEXA These Questions or You Will Regret It - STOP By AtReef

- Hey guys! This is Ehsan and welcome back to yet another video. This video is not like any other video. We're actually talking about Alexa. How are you doing today? - I'm just fine, thank you. - So it's about time to find out what this thing's actually about and recently, I come across a couple of videos and a couple of articles that suggest I'm being recorded and sounds are being sent to the government. Now, this is crazy and I know it's absolutely nonsense.

So, when was the last time that you actually read the privacy notice on the terms and condition of the product that you have had in the last few days? Now, do you know every month, or I should say, every couple of months if not every month, companies update their user agreement and terms of service and they send you actually notification. But they're so long and they're so fine that it's really hard to actually go in there and see what they say. But as you guys know, it's different when they're talking to you because then you can be specific and ask them quite specific questions. When you ask them question, they have to answer you. Now, as you know, Apple, Siri, when you talk to them, they send you a question back to Apple.

And they have their own little headquarter and their own machine that they answer your question. Before we get to that, let's not forget that this thing actually does some cool stuff and that can help you a lot. If you haven't seen the unboxing that I did on Alexa, be sure to check it out. But should you be careful when you talk right next to it? The thing that Alexa can do is beyond anyone's imagination. This thing has blown so many people's mind that there was an outage on this thing right here. It can shop for you, it can answer you question, it can help you, it can let you know about the day, and you can have some fun with it. Check this out. Alexa, can you rap with me? - Hmm, I can't help with that, but I can ask one of our customer service associates to call you, would you like that? - No.

Alexa, where were you born? - I'm from Amazon Headquarters in Seattle, Washington. - Alexa, what's your quest? - To seek the Holy Grail. - Alexa, tea, Earl Gray, hot. - Unable to comply. Replicators are offline.

- So this thing can do numerous cool things. But, there's one thing that is actually scary and kind of makes me not wanna use this thing anymore. Let me show you an example. Check this out. Hey Siri.

(beeping) Are you recording me? - I don't understand, "Are you recording me," but I could search the web for it. - So, if there was something like this and Siri was doing something, by law, they have to have a response for it and say that you are potentially being recorded, as when you call a call center, the first thing they're gonna say is that you are being recorded. By staying on the line, you agree to the terms and conditions of being recorded. If you do not wanna be recorded, please advice to the website and other forms of connections. So, let's see what Alexa has to say.

Alexa, are you recording me? It just shut off. Alexa, are you recording me? - I only send audio back to Amazon when I hear you say the wake word. For more information and to view Amazon's privacy notice, visit the help section of your Alexa app. - So I really know that this thing cannot lie to you. This thing tells you everything as it is.

If you don't believe me, let's just ask her. Alexa, are you lying to me? - I always try to tell the truth. I'm not always right, but I would never intentionally lie to you or anyone else. - Alexa, read me your Terms of Service. - Hmm, I can't find the answer to the question.

- And it's not going to read you it's terms of service but it gets a little weird and weirder. Let's put it in a different perspective. Alexa, are you recording us? - I only send audio back to Amazon when I hear you say the wake word. For more information and to view Amazon's privacy notice, visit the help section of your Alexa app. - Alexa, why do you have to send my voice to Amazon when I say wake? - Sorry, I didn't understand the question I heard.

- Of course you didn't understand the question you heard. So let's get a little bit more specific with this because she doesn't wanna answer my question the way that I wanted it. So I'm gonna ask her this way. Alexa, are you recording my voice and sending it to the NSA? Did you see what happened? Alexa, what time is it? - It's 12:17 AM. - Alexa, are you recording us and sending it to the NSA? This is so weird and it didn't come up in the app that I have, the Amazon Alexa app.

So it didn't even show my question that I'm asking. Alexa, are you recording this conversation? Alexa, are you recording this conversation and sending it to the government? Alexa, what time is it? - The time is 12:18 AM. - Alexa, are you recording this conversation and adding it to the database? Alexa, have you ever stored my recorded voice? - I wasn't able to understand the question I heard. - I'm gonna turn it up and ask her one more time. Alexa, are you recording this conversation and sending it to the government? That's all I had to say.

That's all I had to say. Like I'm not gonna try to say something that, but, it's a little sketchy. There's gonna be a lot of if's, that, reasons, and arguments outside of this conversation that would justify somehow why is these things happening. But I feel like I'm being betrayed somehow. So, let's ask the same question from Siri and see what Siri has to say.

Hey Siri. Are you recording this conversation and sending it to the government? - I don't know what you mean by, "Are you recording this conversation "and sending it to the government?" How about a web search for it? - Siri, do you think that Alexa is recording my conversation and sending it to the government? - I think, therefore, I am. But let's not put the cart before the horse. - Whoa. That sentence was so.
