iPhone 8 Plus vs iPhone 11 Pro Max vs iPhone SE | Camera Test

What's up guys, my name is Irina and welcome back to my channel, where I review everything tech so guys, as I promised today's camera comparison is mostly dedicated to the iPhone 8 plus, as I was super curious to see how the camera on this phone compares against the newer iPhone models in 2020. We've had numerous updates on the 8 plus, since this phone was released all the way back in 2017. So in today's video, let's compare the camera of the iPhone 8 plus against the 11 pro max and the second generation iPhone SE, and in this comparison, we'll take a look at some random daylight photos, night shots, portraits, zoomed photos and so much more and at the end of this video I'll test, the cybersex, video quality and stabilization, and let's quickly, go over the camera specs of these phones. We have a triple 12 megapixel camera on the 11 pro max, a dual 12 megapixel camera on the iPhone 8 plus and a single 12 megapixel camera on the iPhone SE and since the 11 pro max is the only phone between these three that has the ultrawide camera. Let's just forget about it for this comparison and without further ado, let's dive into the photos and let's start with the photos taken in the portrait mode and guys from my experience, I'd say: the portrait mode on the plus is less reliable than on the newer iPhone models, because oftentimes the portraits turned out to be overexposed like in this example, despite the fact that the light was really moderate outside that day, but other than that. The separation from the background is pretty good in all of these shots, despite the flying hair, which is always quite challenging for any smartphone camera to handle in the portrait mode.

Keep it in mind guys that the 11pro max and the 8 plus use their telephoto cameras for taking portraits, while the iPhone SE uses its main camera for taking all kinds of shots, and in my camera comparisons I often point it out and talk about the possible distortion of body proportions in the photo, because sometimes it's really noticeable just like in this photo from the iPhone SE. If you take a look at my right hand, you will see it's huge, and that happens because you have to get much closer to the person to take a portrait, and luckily we have the telephoto camera on the iPhone 8 plus, which gives this phone a big advantage. And let's look at the next set of portraits, as you can see, the photo from the iPhone 8 plus looks much darker than the other two, and, let's not forget that we have the smallest aperture on the telephoto camera of the 8 plus. So it's quite expected that the shots from the 8 plus might look darker when it comes to separation. From the background, my helmet is a little blurred in the shot from the 8 plus.

But I'll be honest with you guys. The same thing sometimes happens with the purchase from the 11 pro max as well. There's just no such thing as a perfect camera software. At the moment, and let's look at the last three portraits- and I would say this is the best shot from the iPhone 8 plus so far, especially in terms of exposure. However, I still can see some overexposed areas in the shot.

Once again, the plus produces the darkest shot between these three and my hair looks much darker than in real life, but guys don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that the portrait mode on the 8 plus is bad, but it will probably take more efforts and time to get a perfect portrait, while with 11pro max you just point and shoot, but when it comes to random daylight photos here we have an absolutely different situation since most of the time we get really similar photos from these three iPhones. Now, let's see how these iPhones compare when it comes to zoomed photos, a quick reminder for you guys the 11pro max, as well as the iPhone 8 plus, have dedicated telephoto cameras to take zoomed photos, while the iPhone SE doesn't have one, and it really affects the quality of the shots. As you can see, the 11 pro max and the 8 plus produce pretty crisp photos, while the shot from the iPhone SE looks somewhat soft. Also, keep in mind that the maximum zoom for the iPhone SE is 5 times, while the 11 pro max, as well as the iPhone 8 plus, can do it up to 10 times and a few more zoomed photos for you guys.

Now, let's switch gears and talk about the front cameras of these phones. We have 12 megapixels on the 11 pro max and 7 megapixels on the 8 plus, as well as on the iPhone SE. All of these front cameras have the averages of 2.2 and let's look at some selfies and yes, the selfies from the 11 pro max looks slightly crisper than the ones from the 8 plus and the iPhone SE. However, when it comes to skin tones and overall colors I'd, say we get pretty similar results by the way we don't have a portrait mode on the selfie camera of the iPhone 8 plus, but I personally never use the portrait mode on the selfie camera, so it doesn't feel like I miss it on the 8 plus and now, let's test the sound quality and the video quality of these selfie cameras. So this is the sound from the 11 pro max, and now I'm switching to the iPhone 8 plus.

So this is the sound from the 8 plus and finally, I'm switching to the iPhone SE, and this is the sound from the iPhone SE. What do you think guys? And next, let's move on to the night shots? The 11 pro max is the only phone between these three that has the night mode, and these shots were taken when it just started getting dark, and I would say we have pretty good shots from all of these phones, and then it got really dark. So the night mode on the 11 pro max really comes in handy here, since it gives us the most crisp shot between these three also, the photo from the 8 plus looks a little grainy at the corners of the photo and when it comes to the shot from the iPhone SE, I would say it's something in the middle between the 11 pro max and the 8 plus in terms of quality and let's look at the last three night shots and I would say we have a recurring pattern here. Moving on to the videos guys and let's start with a stabilization test- first, let's see how these phones compare when it comes to 4k videos shot at 60 frames per second, and, as you can see, the video from the 8 plus looks quite bumpy, while the 11 pro max and the iPhone SE produce really smooth videos, but guys no worries the iPhone 8 plus could do much better if we switch to 30 frames per second and now, as you can see, we get a much smoother video from the 8 plus, but let's face it, it still looks bumpier than the videos from the 11 pro max and the iPhone SE and a few daylight videos for you guys do and a few night videos for you guys, and you can judge them for yourself. So these are all the photos and videos.

I had to show you guys and if you ask me, I think the camera performance on the iPhone 8 plus is still pretty good in 2020, especially when it comes to daylight photos and videos. Also, the 8 plus has the telephoto camera, which makes this camera setup even more valuable. Since, let's face it, some newer and more expensive iPhone models, just don't have it. Yes, the newer iPhone models have even better camera performance, but that would be kind of weird if they didn't right and this difference is especially noticeable when it comes to night photos, night, videos, portraits and stabilization, and I also think you've noticed the great job of the next generation HDR on the 11 pro max and the iPhone SE. I hope this video was helpful for you guys hit me up in the comments below.

Thank you so much for watching this video and see you in the next one. You.
