iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro unboxing & comparison

We've been to Apple, we've been to Vodafone it's time to unbox some iPhones welcome to our iPhone 11 unboxing, I'm David. This is Luis. We've got the newest iPhones I've got the iPhone 11. We got that from Vodafone. Lewis has got the iPhone 11 Pro, which we've got direct from Apple I think we should get straight on the iPhone 11 yep. This is the slightly less exciting of the two, but still pretty exciting, and I got the scissors.

I, don't know we. They need the scissors because we have the classic tab, tear off tab or like so nice. You said you weren't, gonna, get excited and already birthday. I can't help it right. Okay, we've got the black one.

We've actually got two of the black ones, which is a bit of a shame, because the iPhone 11 comes in six different colors. Some of them are totally different to the colors. You got with the iPhone 10 our last year. So there's a new purple is a new green one. The red one is different: it's a bit pink here: yeah yeah, ?, lighter yeah, I'm, quite glad about the yellow change, because I wasn't a fan of the other x10.

Our did not yellow no I. Think I was the one color option: I wasn't a huge fan, but hey there we go. What was your favorite color I? Think I would go with the red I like the red. It is very, it was very in-your-face and just it's also for good causes. Oh yeah, right here we go it's already on I, don't know it's just a bit of text on the screen.

Well, that's not yeah yeah, okay, so they put their legal grab. Ins on the plastic. Isn't that the address of Apple Park Apple Inc, one Apple Parkway Cupertino, yes, yeah peel, that off, or you like. This is not any. This is yeah.

This is my favorite part about unboxing. Any phone is pinging off the spring setup haha. You know some people keep these on and just never take them off yeah, and they would like stop dogging at the edges, and they'll just leave it on at least come on. Okay, you know they start coming off of the court. You know what, let's just move past I, think that's something different right: let's have a look in the back, so these are them two the new we've got twin lens, dual lens: dual lens cameras.

We have had you'll enter cameras before, but this is in a different layout in a sort of square pattern, which seems a bit weird to me. It's almost like they're trying to make it the same design as the pro see the pro in a minute that has three lenses. So there's a space almost for the pro triple lens there, I don't know if I really like the way. This is set up, no I think for a dual camera setup. I do prefer the iPhone 10s design.

Have you got there yeah there you go? So it's just vertical. It's a bit simpler! This time it is a wide angle and an ultra-wide lens yeah, there's no telephoto bits the telephoto, so it's not going to be an optical zoom in we'll get into this stuff later on. Let's have a look. What is in the box? First, yes put that there it got this monastic silver. So this is the stickers, the legal paraphernalia, the spike for ID.

That's not the technical word. Is it yeah very same tree removal tool, yeah I, don't I come from that's right! Here's the morning stuff, you get quite clever. Now, isn't it the way, they've package that looks like it's a pair of air pods, there's no higher of a pod, it's a pair of ear pods because they got wires. You can buy some iPod touch later, no lightning. There are lightning I'm connected because there is no headphone jack, just making sure yeah good point.

Now this is the bone of contention. This is I should probably just check. This is a 5 watt, yeah, that's a standard on the Reds 5 watt power, brick, it depends on where you are I have what is called so yeah just get pounded plug where out, whereas the again I don't know Stevie Wonder's the pro comes with d1, is it 12 or 18 18 what 18 watt, so that has a fast charge. This is only 5'4, so it won't fast, recharge, fast, Josh capable as I say. Yes, fast I was capable.

Where just doesn't come in the box, which is yes, you have to spend a bit of extra money on that. Yes and then it's in the box, so I start setting this up now. Do you want to start within that? Let's have a look at this one. First, we start setting stuff up. So, let's get out here, we have the midnight green.

This is probably my favorite color option of the bunch. We stayed on a blue one though yeah, yeah midnight blue, would have been beautiful. I mean green is a bit of an odd color choice. Okay, let's crack it open, have a look, see what it looks like here. We go again: oh it's just so satisfying I'm going to be doing right later.

What Maximus do is model 512! Oh, is it well? Look at that yeah five words: 12, Gig storage, Apple always give you the not you us. They always give us the high storage version, thanks. This is a 64 King version of the iPhone 11 yeah. That's what I mean to be fair, I think 64 gigs is still more than enough for the majority of consumers. It's only kind of hardcore users.

They need the extra I have to say it's not very green. No I was expecting something a bit more in your face, but based on I mean even looking at the box, it's slightly yeah slightly more muted than the box, but still you can definitely tell it's green, which is always good, so yeah I think the most noticeable change on the back is obviously the triple lens configuration. So in addition to the ultra white and the wide-angle, you've got that telephoto lens. That was on the iPhone 10 iPhone, that's my phone 10s, and that range there, and they eat seven Plus as well. Oh yeah, of course, yeah completely forgot about that.

I was asking him about that. Because I thought it was really weird that they've dropped the telephoto and had the ultra-wide instead like this, one has too, and I was thinking. The two most important you'd think would be the telephone and there and the wiping you were saying that the ultra-wide is more current. Somehow yeah I feel like more people are kind of leaning more towards the ultra-wide kind of thing. I quite like I, mean me personally, I, quite like the curvature that you get from wide-angle cameras, especially in kind of taking pictures of tall buildings and that kind of thing, but obviously each to their own.

And with this you don't need to you, don't need the cheese. You've got all three which is nice and that's why they yeah, if you could afford the initial price of it, which I've just I've noticed now that this is a fascinating finish on the back, because it's not, it's still, it's still glass, but you got this really nice matte effect, but there's got a bit of depth to it. Can you see what I mean, so its glass yeah looks kind of like it's milled Allen and minimum yeah, but it's not it's glass, and it's the Apple really Kingston? If it's the toughest glass of any smartphone currently in use and I said it weighs, it got a gorilla glass, it is guerrilla glass. But it's supposed to be a bespoke glass made by Corning hoodoo Gorilla Glass. Well, how long that will remain the toughest glass, doubtless pacifically, presumably corning, oh I, don't know they wouldn't be free to use the same glass, no, but something similar I.

Imagine yeah, I'm, also very waterproof. Yes, yes, so it's the same kind of was a timepiece. Seventy years might be 68, 68, sorry yeah. It's kind of the maximum II won't really see consumer products, any humming, oh yeah, but crucially, it's still more water resistant than the iPhone 11. Isn't it? Yes, so you've got four meters of war resistance on this model, whereas it's two on the iPhone, 11, and I think one on the iPhone 10.

Ah, yes, so uh yeah, you got. You got a nice little grade there for people that use their phone underwater. So it's just it's harder to bust it in their yeah, oh yeah. If you spend all that money, you drop it you get it wet. You're, probably going to be okay, and you know I say that, but I always have this flashback to the time.

I dropped my phone in this woman pool, and it was not waterproof, and that was the end of it all right before we go if ever I just want to peel off this, because this is yeah as I said, my favorite thing on these little nubbins on the side of me, I think, but anyway, unnecessary only you've got the bomb one. That's not your name, oh I, just like the sound that goes along with it. Well amazing a static on that, but you're handy of that there's something wrong with me: when I did it're, just supercharged, yeah I guess: should we charge you that? Shall we yeah I set these up? Now you have to talk a bit more about what they do. Yes, let's do that? Okay, so we've sat the iPhones now looking all snazzy, but before we go any further. I do want to show you the power brick because I do that earlier.

So here we have a chunkier brick and we in the phrase it's chunky. Oh, it's a chunk and a half I'll tell you that right now, I mean we've got the plug handy. Yes, okay, so there's yeah! There is an obvious difference there in terms of thickness, but if you never charge your iPhone up quicker I have no complaints there. You can take that remember they did that for the ample water on the Apple Watch yeah. You know the click do I do ever think about that yeah.

This is yeah. This is a great little mechanism time, especially for traveling, because it's always annoying having the prongs out, and they always scratch stuff in my bag. I need you don't step on it, though, and that it's always nice painful experience known to man. So yeah we've got the 18 watt power, brick, there I know you'll notice as well that it's USB-C and not USB 2.0, like the other charger, is because that enables the faster charging, but it's also quite annoying, because unless you have a USB-C port on your computer, you have to buy another cable, an adapter and add a door, and that's it. Everybody loves an adapter right.

So yeah that's out there just for I'd, show you that and then just to confirm. We've got the same headphones and the same cable in the box as well. So is that lightning to USB, lightning to USB, C, yeah, cool I know air pods, yes, yeah, yeah I know I mean I'm waiting for the day when Apple includes air pods in the box, but I don't think it's a beam come soon. There is not even to be made that a lot of this stuff. If they're not gonna, give you the top level one.

They could just know what they're putting in at all, because, like the five watt, brick yeah, everybody has about six of those of em they're. Just creating man filled plastic, the same with the ear pods airports are nothing for me. Yeah, I think I'll go with you that, oh so, let's talk about, it was just let's go at the 11 first, let's talk about that. Alright! So screen wise. It's the same as the 10r.

It's 631 inches, it's liquid, retina yep, which sits lie still not quite as good as yellow yeah. The screen is bigger than the 11pro, yes, which is 5.8 yes, but smaller than the pro max. This 6.56 is 6.5. The camera is the main upgrades from the 10r. As we already said, it's got the two lenses again to the selfie mode, that's 12 megapixels and that yeah.

So that really should give us the full range there. You go that's more like yet so that's normal, and then this is a sort of zoom out. So that is an optical zoom, eight glassware, so you shouldn't get any deterioration in image quality. You know, whereas if you ICC mean that's obviously a digital zoom in it well a little, so I might want to show you big sexy, iPhone, 11 cameras, so you've got that same ultra-wide, and then you've got the standard wide, and now you've also got the telephoto to get that extra level of zoom right. That's where you get your hey, that's weird, the extra telephoto! Yes that thank you there's also night mode and both of these have night mode, and this is an automatic feature.

So this might be a little difficult. If you just put your hand over the sensor, all right, there yeah a little yellow warning, sign pops up, and it gives you an estimate of how long you're going to need to do an exposure for so in this case, this is the maximum threesome you're, quite the maximum. If, if it detects it's on a tripod ang and do even longer, it can do up to I think 30 seconds, so no Santino's you'll be able to keep it super still yeah. It does that by gyro. So they can tell this is super still.

So you probably on a tripod, we're holding still yeah see. Do you see what I did that you only have to press it once you don't hold it down, because holding it down? Is the new feature of the iPhone 11, the 11pro? Isn't that because, yes, instead of holding the shutter to take a burst of images, which has been the case for pretty much every iPhone since I can remember, Apple's ditched our functionality in the off-road 11 range? And now, when you hold the shotgun in a photo mode, it changes into a video mode which it's kind of similar to kind of things like Snapchat and Instagram. They have very similar functionality, and you know, makes sense when it's kind of a doctor similar attitude, that's quick tape. So what you can do when you're doing quick take is so you hold down. It's now switch to a video, and it's now recording if I swipe to the right.

You see that little paddle, oh yeah, then it's now permanently in knowing video, I'm going to hold it down anymore, and you press back. But then it goes back to the normal. What's also interesting to note, I've just noticed it on your screen. There I don't know if you'll be able to see it on the camera. But if you tap this button at the top, the arrow I'm not seeing that.

So, if it's an iOS 13 thing or an iPhone 11 thing, I'll have to go and check to make sure. But you can actually now change the size of the image without the camera wrap. So you've got the standard for free. You can go into sixteen by nine if you want that kind of edge to edge display, or you've got a square mode, which is your know square, so you previously had to do. You have to do all this in the settings menu yeah, so it's nice that you can.

Finally, after so many years, do this within the app. So thank you very much a four seven. We got slo-mo selfie, slow fees, Sam I'm, not gonna, call that slow, my selfies and I see you got a move, that's Charlie! That was extremely telling. This is another new thing. It's got auto autoplay so when you're going through your videos when your photos- and you just move on to it- and it will just start okay, it's muted, that's interesting.

So it's like they'd be like on like Facebook when you scroll past, and it doesn't auto, play video, but without any audio yeah, pretty cool there. You go your first slow fee. That's my first low fee, major! So another enhancement on the iPhone 11 range. I'll say that because there's across both of them is the notch because face ID has been upgraded. Apple says that it should respond to kind of more awkward angles than before, but that's not really something I've ever had much of an issue with, but then again I don't know if that's because I've trained myself to always look directly at the iPhone when I want to unlock it, when we must your experience with face ID good that it's not being great lately, because I've been growing a beard- hmm very unsuccessfully, and it's combined.

So it's still recognizing me, even though I didn't have a beard when I recorded when I set up first, but it just makes it a bit more difficult. So if there's like slightly bad lighting, it used to better cope with that, but now it's like slightly bad lighting and a rubbish beard it does seem to have. Can convince me of that. Obviously I've just now set this up. We have my face as it now I mean it's already I'm, locking it when you kind of only glancing, it is pretty quick, it is yeah yeah.

That was quite a difficult angle, so it seems to be quicker. It seems to be a bit more a bit less reluctant, you know no, it didn't work, I've done being too optimistic and just basically holding it flat, but obviously it's not going to be what see my face like that to be looking at it. Okay, I mean it's quick at the unlock process in general is a lot quicker, which is always nice. So let's talk about the internals of both the phones. Yes, if we jump, we do pretty much the same, so they both got the a13 Bionic chip Bionic, because it's sort of tying in with like a neural network thing, and it's the same sort of principle that if I for the last few they have the 11 I think was the 11 fusion was at the 10 fusion some time ago.

But it's been burning ever since then same code name, the 13 is really fast, and one of the advantages of that is for photography, because you've got a smart HDR last year, which is a system where it would sort of use, machine learning, sort of principles to analyze what made a good photo, and it would look in the different parts of the photo and check the lighting the exposure, and it would sort of adjust them in different ways. Okay, so if you had, you know, shadows and bright lighting in the same frame, which would not be really, really hard for a camera to cope with any would sort of do a clever way around that. So now we've got second-gen smart HDR, which we have that. Obviously, we've just opened the have not a chance to test out, yet it should be pretty good. The photos that they showed off at the announcement yeah earlier in September and the briefing I went to yesterday looked perfect.

It was really impressive. That's pretty much the same! That's my CR side of things. Yes same between both phones, I, think yeah in terms of spec I. In terms of what the core internal spec I, don't think there is much of a difference between the 11 and 11 Pro. It's possible they'll be more round yeah, but I never announced that exactly it's not something we can really speculate on.

I mean. Am I imagined yeah, there's going to be a little more ram in here, but in terms of performance, I, don't I mean there's no good? There's going to be a noticeable difference in performance between any of the iPhone 11 range they're all going to have more than enough juice to keep it going for quite some time. I imagine, which is why, for a lot of people, I think we're going to be recommending the 11 MMM. It's a fascinating decision. They called it the pro because there's sort of tradition with the MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro has always been normal.

People don't buy Pro products. No, might you get it if you're a digital illustrator, mostly 8004, and the idea of this just been a consumer product that it's just something that a normal person would buy is a bit I. Don't know, it's almost putting them off. MMM I cost so much anyway, that you and they shouldn't buy. But that's something we'll have to look at yeah.

That's where you use the pound a little more, absolutely we're gonna! So we're gonna start testing them out, so we're going to do refuse we're going to do lots more articles about them, which you'll find on the tech, advisor and or micro as well, but for now I think we'll say goodbye, yep, and you're very much.
