iPad Pro (2020) Watch THIS Before You BUY!

Hey, what's going on everyone Greg here and there is a new iPad Pro, but without an actual event to show it off and with some unusual and unique details. There are some things you need to know before you buy this iPad Pro, so before we go over all the changes to this iPad Pro. Let me tell you what stayed the same overall at first glance, you can probably tell that the overall design of this iPad Pro is pretty much the same, so it still comes in either an 11 or 12 point 9 inches, liquid retina LCD with things like app 3, wide color gamut, a true tone display and 600 nits of brightness. That is the same as the 2018 iPad Pro other things like bezels and weight are also the same, and Apple is still advertising the same.10 hours of battery life like they have since the beginning of the first iPad. The only real notable design difference is the new squared camera bump on the back of the device. This camera bump now houses, two cameras, a wide-angle camera at 12 megapixels and an ultra wide-angle camera at 10.

Megapixels. Now the big question: that's up in the air is: how good are these cameras? I know. A lot of people, myself included, are probably going to compare it to the iPhone 11. That's because they both have a wide-angle lens and an ultra wide-angle lens, but in all of these press releases I'm, not seeing any indication that this iPad Pro is going to get either night mode or the deep fusion mode and in terms of video quality, it does look like we're getting the same settings as the iPhone 11, so it can do 4k at 60 frames per second now. The real big advancement here is what Apple is calling a LIDAR scanner apple says: the LIDAR scanner will measure the distance to surrounding objects up to five meters away.

This works both indoors and outdoors and operates at the photon level at nanosecond speeds. Basically, Apple is positioning this new LIDAR sensor as a way to enhance augmented reality. Apple even says that every existing AR kit app will automatically get instant AR placement improves motion-capture and people occlusion. As I said in my previous video, this is a lot of marketing or technical speak at this point. But basically all they are saying is that this new iPad Pro should have enhanced, augmented reality capabilities, whether that's important to you or to anyone.

Frankly again, that is an open question. I'm going to have to get my hands on this iPad Pro and truly test out the augmented reality capabilities and even see, if they're worth using for the average consumer or if it's just going to be a gimmick. Okay, now most people will look at the outside of this iPad Pro see a very similar design and then that brand-new camera system and think okay, that's it that's all the upgrades. Well, it's not that simple, there's! Actually some internal upgrades to these iPad pros as well. That mainly comes in the form of an 12 Z chip.

That's right! You heard me a 12 Z, not a 12 X or not the 13 X that we were predicting and a 12 Z. What does that mean? Well, I've been parsing through Apple's website, I've been parsing through their newsroom announcement and from what I can tell the 12 Z is basically an 12 X with one additional core for the GPU. So if we look back at the old, a 12 X chip on the previous iPad Pro model that had a 7 core GPU, the new, a 12 Z, has an 8 core GPU. But that's not the only change, aside from the better GPU with the 12 Z Bionic chip Apple, also enhanced the thermal architecture of the iPad Pro itself and tuned performance controllers, which they say will give the iPad Pro the highest performance ever in an iPad again. I have to get my hands on that to really test that claim.

But the best comparison I can give right now is with the 16-inch MacBook Pro Apple implemented a better thermal design and even though it had the same CPU as the old 15-inch model, it actually performed better because it was more efficient at cooling, those processors under an intensive load. So basically it sounds like the 12 Z has the same. CPU but a little better on the GPU, but because it is a better thermal design. We should see overall, better performance now, even though probably a lot of people watching this are disappointed with the lack of CPU upgrades. There is some silver lining here, and that is that this iPad Pro now comes with 6 gigabytes of RAM as standard the old iPad Pro came with 4 gigabytes unless you got the 1 terabyte version and that came with 6 gigabytes.

Strangely enough, this new iPad Pro also gets the new you one chip which we saw in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, which at this point is basically only used to make air-dropping easier. So you can point your iPad Pro at another iPad Pro or another iPhone, and then select that device to airdrop to another hidden changes that this 20/20 iPad Pro will include Wi-Fi 6. Now there is one more internal upgrade, and that comes in the form of these new 5 arrays. Microphones Apple says that the iPad Pro now features five studios, quality microphones for capturing super, clean audio and the quietest details. If you go back and watch my review of the 16-inch MacBook Pro that also included what Apple was calling studio, quality microphones I was really impressed with the built-in microphone on the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

So if this iPad Pro gets anywhere close to the 16-inch MacBook Pro microphones, that is going to be a significant upgrade and that might actually sound like a more useful feature than you think if you haven't had any experience with these new microphones. So maybe all of a sudden, if you bring your iPad Pro with you, if you're in a pinch in a remote situation, you could use this to record something like a podcast or an interview. You could also use the new camera system on the iPad Pro shoot, 4k video and if this microphone is good enough, that can be a really compelling solution for video biographers. So, all of a sudden, you just take this one single device. This iPad Pro you can shoot the 4k video on it.

You can get good enough audio on it. Audio is very important when you're doing video, and then you can edit directly on the device that kind of versatility. If it's done right will be a pretty compelling selling point. So I'm really excited I really want to get my hands on that microphone. Okay and those are the major upgrades you need to know about this new iPad Pro, but there's also a brand-new accessory to go along with it, and this would be the new magic keyboard with built-in trackpad.

Yes, you can now get a keyboard with a trackpad that works on an iPad. The magic keyboard looks to be the same as the one that's in the new MacBook Air and the 16-inch MacBook Pro. So it has one meter of travel. It is a backlit keyboard and in the hinge of this keyboard, there's a USB-C port. So now you could have two USB seaports on the iPad Pro one on the device itself and one in the keyboard.

So, for example, now you could charge the iPad Pro and then plug something else, like external storage into the other port. Now the trackpad for this iPad Pro is very interesting, and that's because it's not just putting a simple cursor on the screen, Apple is actually trying something new here. That should be a little more friendly to the iPads user interface. The cursor appears as a circle that highlights user interface, elements, text fields and apps on the home screen and dock Apple says this will give you a clear indication of what users can. Click on the trackpad also includes fluid gestures on the trackpad, which make it easy to switch between apps and access the app switcher activate the dock, control center or apps in slide overview.

This new magic keyboard also has a floating design, so it can work well on a lap or a desk and Apple says that you can adjust the viewing angle up to 130 degrees. Now, there's a couple of things to know here. The first thing is that you can't order this keyboard until May, so if you're watching this video right now, if you go and order this brand-new iPad Pro you're going to have to wait till May. If you want to get this accessory, another very important thing to know is that you don't need the new 20/20 iPad Pro for this magic keyboard to work. It will still work on the 2018 iPad Pro.

So if you want to save money, if you're not in the market for a new iPad Pro, if you don't think this is a significant enough upgrade- and you do want this new magic keyboard with the trackpad, it will still work on your 2018 iPad. Pro I should also say it's an expensive keyboard. It starts at 299 dollars on the 11 inch and 350 dollars on the 12 point 9 inches now. Obviously, I can't tell you if this accessory is worth it. This is something that I will definitely need to get my hands on, but so far I am very intrigued by what Apple is showing with this cursor support and how they've changed it or adapted it to make sense with the iPads user interface? Okay.

So what about price? Well, the 11-inch iPad Pro and the 12 point.9-inch iPad Pro still start at the same price, but they actually got an upgrade in the storage, so the 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $7.99 for 128 gigabytes of storage. You can get a 256 gigabyte model for $8.99, a 512 gigabyte model for 1099 dollars and a 1 terabyte model for 12 hundred and $99. The twelve point nine-inch starts at nine hundred and ninety-nine dollars for 128 gigabytes, one thousand and ninety-nine dollars for 256 gigabytes, one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine dollars for 512 gigabytes and fourteen hundred and ninety-nine dollars for one terabyte. If you want the cellular version, add one hundred and fifty dollars more to each of the storage configurations. Ok, new iPad Pro: should you buy it? This really depends.

So if you have a 20-18 iPad Pro I, don't think this upgrade is significant enough to warrant buying it again. I do have to get my hands on it. I do have to review it before I can make my final conclusion, but just judging on the tech specs. Judging on what I'm reading about it looks like the only major significant upgrade here is with the camera and that new LIDAR system, the 12 Z chip, only has one additional core to the GPU. Maybe the two additional gigabytes of RAM might make some performance increase again.

I really have to test that part to conclude that, but with no big CPU jump and other small improvements, the only reason I would suggest upgrading to this is, if you like, those new camera features, and especially if you plan on using the LIDAR sensor with the augmented reality which, at this point, without seeing a review, I'm, not sure how you would know if you want that quite yet, also while I think a big upgrade factor might be the new magic keyboard again, that does work with the 2018 iPad Pro model. So if you were just interested in that new keyboard, you can use that with your old iPad Pro at least the 2018 version. No problem. Now, if you are coming from an older, iPad Pro with the older design. Obviously this is a great time to upgrade.

They increase the base. Storage configuration so the prices are a little friendlier and there are some cool new features included with this iPad Pro. So, if you're looking to upgrade from one of those older models, now is a great time now, if you got to the end of this video, and you're starting to add up all the costs of a iPad Pro a magic keyboard, a second-generation Apple Pencil, you're, probably going wow. This is getting pretty expensive. Is there any other recommendations you can make Craig yeah? Actually, there are because the iPad lineup has a lot of options now.

So, if you're looking at this iPad Pro- and you think it's still too expensive- look at the rest of the lineup, the iPad Air comes within a 12 chip in terms of CPU performance, maybe not necessarily GPU performance. It's going to be very similar even to this new iPad Pro. If the iPad Air is still too expensive for you at $500, you could go for the 329 dollar, regular old iPad that comes with an older, a 10 chip, but I still found the performance for most daily tasks, especially light that you would probably be doing on an iPad to be more than sufficient and there's also the iPad Mini, which is in a completely different class. That's only if you want a small tablet. I would also highly suggest that you check out a refurbished model of the 2018 iPad Pro.

If you're looking to save money on Apple's website, you can currently get the 11 inch for just five hundred and forty-nine dollars. That's a perfect price! So again, if you have an old, 2016 or 2017 iPad Pro now is a great time to upgrade. If you have a 20-18 iPad Pro, you might want to sit this one out and if all of these sounds too expensive, for you definitely check out all the other iPads in Apple's lineup, and if you want to see reviews on those I have those on this channel as well, so definitely check them out. But anyway. Hopefully this video helped you out.
