Huawei MatePad T8 Unboxing & Hands On: No Google :(

It took them quite a long time, but with the Huawei it mates pair p8, while they finally released a new tablet outside of China again I manage for my next I become in this is my unboxing and hands on. We see new Huawei Mate 88, let's get to it before we start don't forget to subscribe to this YouTube channel I'm reviewing pretty much every tablet that gets released, all from Samsung Microsoft, Apple, Lenovo, Huawei and others. So inside the box we see here's a tablet first and make sure looks pretty good. It seems to be made of metal, at least as a matter fact. Then, inside the box we've got an is the eject tool or a sim eject tool, and then that's a downside. We've got a micro, USB cable, that's a bummer but yeah I guess this tablet has a micro USB port.

Instead of use PC, then we get a quick start guide and warranty stuff and then, of course, the charger and that's it. Nothing else is inside the box since I shot. The first part of this video about half a day has passed already and already played a bit with this tablet, installed some benchmarks and played some games and so on, so that I can tell you a bit more about this tablet, and we're starting with the design. First, we got an 8-inch screen here. Then we get black bezels around to screen which are relatively thin.

Then we have a 2 megapixel front-facing camera there, and it supports a facial recognition. So it can. You can unlock the tablet using facial recognition, as you can see there, we go, and it works pretty. Well. However, there's no additional sensor, so it's not as secure as a bird's face ID or SD Windows hello, facial recognition from the Microsoft Surface lineup.

Then let's go further around the tablet. Let's check out the back. First, we get a 5 megapixel camera here and then a metal backplate. It seems to be metal I'm, not a hundred percent sure, but I think I hope this is metal. At least we get a similar design in the past.

The frame certainly is plastic, but I think this is a backplate of metal. Yes, so the bed quality is okay, as I said, the friend here is plastic, but it feels fine I mean for the price, nothing too bad, then, on this side here it gets a volume rocker a power button on the bottom. We get the micro, USB port. Of course that's not amazing, but well we have to use it. Then we get here the SD card slot and if you could say a version, there's an ad version, then I'm sure you can change the SIM card here as well.

On the top we get one single speaker, I've already watched a bit of YouTube and the sound quality is not amazing at all. It's usable I would say, but certainly not great, and it's also only from one side. So if you're watching movie, the sound is coming from one side only, but I like that with they're getting a standard, headphone jack. Now, let's check out the screen by getting an 8-inch display here with a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. That means this is a standard HD screen, and that means that it's not as sharp as your typical phone is or as an 8-inch full HD display would be.

Of course, if you look very closely, then you will see a little of pix elation, but it's okay, I mean it's usable, I would say and the positive side this screen is illuminated. That's certainly nice, and all other aspects are pretty decent too. It has a good contrast. Color reproduction is pretty good and yes, it's quite saturated, as you can see here, the viewing angles are season as well. Nothing bad here to complain about so Leah.

This green resolution could be higher, but pretty much every competitor from the noble Samsung on Amazon has the same resolution in this price range. So that's, ok that just a standard in this price range in 30, while we made petite eights it's a MediaTek mt6752 32 gigabytes of internal storage, I've cut ins, this 16 gigabyte one and in some countries you can get it with 80 years well, but was only able to get it with a Wi-Fi. Only now you can see my kick bench for comparison here, and you can see that the performance is pretty decent for this price range. I get similar results as ceiling, / tab, m8 HD or the Samsung Galaxy Tab an 8 inch. Now the magic performance is a little better, but it's roughly similar to a competition.

Now I did play as fight in 9. Already you can see it playing here, and the performance is only okay. I would say it does not look amazing. It's a little pixelated. The edges are not perfect and this it status in between that's that's just Obama, so I, don't think anybody expects a great gaming tablet at 119 euros and, as you can see, it's not bad yeah.

You will be able to play simpler games. Of course, I should run fine. Now, let's get to the most important part of the way mate 38- and that is this software. Of course, I'm sure you heard of the us-china trade war and the embargo that was hit against Huawei, and it means we don't get any Google services here at all. No Google Play Store, no YouTube.

No Chrome, no Gmail, no Google, keep no hangouts, no Google at all. I, don't think that will change at least not in the near future. Now this is still running Android and in fact it's quite a recent version. It's one of the few tablets with Android 10, that's certainly nice, but it's just and words just the open-source version of Android without anything that Google is doing similar to what Amazon is doing, but Amazon did it on their own choice, aware it was forced to not use Google anymore, so it is Android, and it looks like your standard. Huawei phone or tablet would look like if you got a Huawei device in the last couple of years up to five years in the past, it will look very, very similar.

You get the same, apps the same tools, here's the same them. Radio looks really very similar, like the emotional eye. Teachers are very similar, but everything from Google is missing. Now, instead of the Google Play Store, we get the Huawei F. We and you can find many Etsy up.

For example, I was able to install us-59, I was able to install free fire, and you can install it Snapchat if you want or TikTok so you can find those apps. You can find quite a lot of games in here. I mean you can see them here. They're. Quite a nice selection of games.

Tinder is on here. There's some local news. Apps, for example, focus is a local German use that, and I already installed tagesschau, which is something like the BBC and I installed Microsoft Office, but there are many apps that are missing. For example, if you want to stand alone Word, Excel or PowerPoint, or even one try for OneNote app, then you won't find them only is the office app that is more made for phones and not for tablets. It doesn't have as many features as a standalone word app does.

For instance, you don't find Netflix here, there's no Facebook, there's no. What that there's no Instagram, so those are quite important, apps and of course, again, there's no YouTube and so on. Now, sometimes you can find replacements while I even installed WPS Office years and replacement to the office. Apps, that was a part of previous emotion, UI in installments as well, and you can use the browser. Of course a await browsers is not Chrome, but inside the web browser you can watch some YouTube, but it's just the standard YouTube inside the browser, it works sure, and you can scroll through your subscriptions and so on and see all your videos, but it's just not as fluent as these standard YouTube APIs.

Now, as I said, this is the N word, and that means you can just get any epic a from the internet and install it. I did that here was kick bench for it wasn't inside the OF gallery, so I downloaded the APK I. Think it's fine with skip bench for now, as there are probably ways to install it so Google, Play, Store and for my final review I will try that, and then you can install YouTube and everything else, but there's an issue with that, because you never really know. Where does the APK come from and that's any bad have put any kind of malware, also inside that place, the APK or yeah inside the Google services, or inside the YouTube, everyday you're downloading and since you're connecting it to your Google account, which might have quite important information? I do a whole Gmail, stuff and so on. Google is recommending not to do that as I said clearly, and I wouldn't recommend my parents, or so to do that who have nothing to do with technology now it might be interesting if you're, a geek like I am and just do it for fun sure, but it's just not user-friendly, and it's just a huge, huge downside here that we don't get the Google Apps.

Maybe it's not even what ways fault at all I'm, not sure how go to evil wow it is and what they have to do was the Chinese government or whatever. But it's just effect that, if you're buying it as a normal consumer, you don't get those Google services and I think if you're getting an end or device, you expect to get these Google services yeah. All right has that's been my unboxing video. Now I really have to get going and really tested. I didn't do it yet, of course, my final review will be up in a couple of weeks.

I've got to play more games and really use it as my daily tablet. If you have any questions, anything I should try out writing in the comments, and maybe I will put it into my final review now. My first impressions are true food. On the one hand, for that price, it's a pretty good tablet for 120 euros, Davos a decent bit quality, decent screens at performances. Okay, I, like said we're getting em to attend sure.

Not everything is perfect. Not at all. We don't get the best gaming performance. He, as a speaker are not great at all. All of that is to be expected at a 120 euro price tag, but we don't get those Google services.

That's a huge, huge, huge downside, and that's probably the reason why my final with you, I will tell you to not get it. I mean it just does not have anything any feature that stands out, so I don't see for most people. There's no reason to get this if you can get, for example, the Lenovo tab, eight HD, it's similar price, has the similar qualities similar screen similar performance- it has inverted I, know Denver 10, okay, but it does have so Google Play, so it does have YouTube and so on. It does have Netflix. You can yeah just get everything from the Google Play Store, just as you're used to now.

If you hate google, for some reason or just don't want to support, google, then I'm, not sure if you want to support Huawei, but maybe you do, then you can get it or if you are a geek like I am for example, and you just want to try it and play with it a bit sure. Then you can get it, but I think for the standard, normal average consumer and for most people in general, I, don't think yeah I. Don't think this is a great buy because, as I said, you can just get in. You know what happen 8hd. There's a Samsung Galaxy Tab an 8 inch that often a similar price right now the original price is higher, but usually you can get it as a tier, and if you want to save lots of money, you can also check out the Amazon fire h28.

You don't get the Google services a very Thurs, but at least you get a USB support now, and you get all the voice assistant features of that system and I. Don't think anybody would be interested and always software features in particular. Yes, so much about the Huawei made pet t8. So far, all right, that's been my unboxing and hands on we'll see you away in mate, petty 8. If you have any questions, write them down below and subscribe to the channel I'm reviewing pretty much every tablet that gets released, I manage for my next ever calm, thanks for watching and see you next time.
