Google Pixel 4a review May 2021, still worth it? #Google Pixel 4a #TeamPixel By Tech Anorak

Hello guys and uh welcome to techie sold so uh. This is my second video now, and before we talk about this guy today, so the Pixel 4a um. I won't bore you with an unboxing because there's not a lot in the box. Obviously you get it's a 15 watt charger. I believe that you get, so it is fast charger. It's not 30 watt, as some of the more expensive phones have.

But again that's the point: it's not the most expensive phone um, and it's maybe a bit boring, but it's USB to USB, which is a bit annoying. Actually, if you ever want to plug it into a laptop because you don't have HDMI, if you want to charge your phone or do file transfer, so you need another cable for that. Um. I've had the phone now since December and, to be honest, I must have had at least 20 android phones. I reckon in the last 10 years, as probably most people in and iPhones, but this for 350 pounds is its an awesome phone um, so quite a basic design, they're just black polycarbonate plastic um, it's a single lens camera, but it's the camera from the pixel 4, the full fat, pixel 4 as well, and obviously a flash.

It doesn't have the dual lens like the 4a 5g or the pixel 5. Um. It's got a rare fingerprint scan, um scanner, which I've found probably the best scanner. I've had on a phone, it's just so fast, so you just one such bang, you're in um I'll talk about this case in a minute as well. But if you get the right case, they have um a contour on the back, so your finger, just you know, naturally goes for the fingerprint scanner.

Okay, so um I've got a very busy home screen, but basically um. I had a note 10, and I dropped it and smashed the screen. So I got um paid out the money from the insurance company. They wouldn't give me a replacement, note 10, but I got 350 odd, pound and four spent a long time working out what phone I wanted. Um and I wanted a perfect camera phone and obviously something within my budget, and I must say this is an awesome camera um, which I think is one of the main reasons you get a pixel um the performance.

Also, I'm very surprised. It's um only a snapdragon. I think it's a 620 or 630, I think 620, and it handles everything. I think because the software is optimized that well from Google, it doesn't need a massive like 8a8 or whatever the best snapdragon is now um. It's just optimized, so well sorry, ambulance going first, very professional, um, okay, so um again the GPU for gaming, that's not the highest one, but I don't do a lot of gaming on my phone really I've.

I've got another tablet, android tablet for that or a gaming PC um, but you can still run um Call of Duty pub g on lower settings um but yeah. This is my everyday phone and I find the usability. Is its just fluid? It's just so easy to use, so you can just flick in and out of apps. I think it's got six gigs of ram um, which is plenty enough for it to handle um. So obviously it's a full screen phone with the uh cut out front-facing camera um.

So although it's a nice compact phone, it's a nice change from some massive phones. I've had recently um. It's still got a fairly big screen, though, so if we go on like a sample picture, um absolutely can type but yeah just to show you it's. You know nice full screen device still um. I don't think I'd be confident just using it and without a case I think you do need a proper case for it, but it still feels really sturdy um.

Okay. So let's do some sample pictures, so it can be boring and take a picture of the box, but the beauty of it is the again. People are probably very familiar with the um cameras now, but they're just point and shoot you don't have to even adjust anything really they just the software. Does it all for you um, we'll bring Oder over there? He is when it's off here there you go just for all you nerds, like me, um, but again it's point and shoot. You know it looks lifelike um not Yoda the picture.

So it's the lighting that I've got in my room and yeah. It's bob on um again. Video is very good. I think it goes up to 4k 30 frames. It's not 60fps, but again you know it's its more than enough.

Um do a little video again, if you own it. Hopefully we'll get done by Lucasfilm or Disney for copyright, but never mind. Let's have a go. You must complete the trainings okay. So, let's watch back um the speakers.

It is dual speakers in it's got the earpiece here um and then a down would fire him on here and, to be honest, it's really loud compared to the note 10 I had. I think it's louder than that um. Obviously you wouldn't listen to your music through it, but you know if you're, just watching a YouTube, video or a movie on Netflix or something it's its. You know plenty loud enough, hopefully we'll get done by Lucasfilm or Disney for copyright, but never mind anyway. That's enough for that, but yeah just to show you again, you know, video camera is perfect.

The biggest selling as well with Google, I think- and it's going to get me locked in now with Google- is that you get unlimited, uh video and photo backup. It doesn't back up to the full um resolution you've recorded at. But it's still, if it's a video, it's 1080p, it's not 4k that you've recorded in um, but your photos again, they're still high quality um, and then you can delete them off the device or if you want to save some 4k ones. I just back mine up to my PC um, but it's nice that you get all that storage there. You don't have to pay for it, whereas I think with apple you have to pay for iCloud storage over whatever it is 10 gig, 15, gig, so yeah, that's again, big selling point for me, um and just the size of it is its just a nice phone to have um and yeah.

You know I recommend it highly so 350, I think it's the best android phone, you can get um. I was interested in the Poco phone, the x3, but I've read that they don't optimize the software very well. So although they've got a perfect chipset, probably better than this um, it just doesn't handle it. The software is not good enough, so you'll get a lot of stuttering, but this is just so smooth, um. So yeah, I think you know in 2021.

I think the pixel 5a, I think that's coming out pretty soon, but even if you got the 4a, I don't think the 5a is going to be much different. Um, maybe it'll have 5g, but I don't know about your area, but I can just about get 4g around here, and I think 5g is only in the big cities. So it's not really worth it yet um. But yeah like say if you want a perfect camera phone nice compact device. I think it's a bargain.

You know um definitely recommend it. Okay, so um just a little added one. I've got some cases to show you like. I said so. Here's the sign saw farmer, as you can see there, so I think I've had this case for about three or four different phones now, because it's just such a cool case with the kickstand, and they're really tough and like say after I broke my last device um, I wanted something that I was going to be more a bit more confident with, so it's got padding inside um.

I think these things inside here in the corners. It's got air cushion technology, they say um and then yeah again. You've probably had all these cases before, but they're a dual layer, one, so you've got the plastic. CPU outer just slide your device in and then your polycarbonate hard plastic onto the back kickstand and then, which is quite nice. You've got two angles really with your kickstand, so um more of a.

If you sat at a table like here or again, two angles for media consumption really um. I've also because I wanted a screen protector that would fit. I've got a glass speeding screen protector as well on it um again. This has been on it since December and the case and not any marks. Really and they're very easy to apply you get this alignment tool with them.

So basically um check it out the case so um it tells you where the top and bottom is. If you can see there, or we'll tell you where the top is, then you can just frame your device. So it goes on like that nice and easy- and I don't know if I can show you actually I'll- try yeah over screen protector, get with it. Okay, basically just you take the plastic off, obviously here, but that just guides it in for you so you're, not getting it SKU whiff if you've got OCD like me. It annoys me when you know it's more over to one side or top or bottom, so yeah um with that as well.

You get a number of tools, so apply it. So you've got um a cleaning cloth, obviously to clean it down. First, I think you get some dust removal, stickers and a little screen wipe and then this squeegee for afterwards you don't really need it because they're a glass screen protector, they just sit on really nice. You don't get many bubbles, but yeah. I've got that to push any bubbles out.

If there's a bit of surface dust or anything on there, so yeah there you go guys, like I say, not a really in-depth review, but more of a should. You buy it in 2021 and yeah. Like I say, if you're like me, I've got out of getting massive expensive contracts. Now, it's not for me anymore, and I'd rather just buy my device outright so for 350 pounds. You can't really go wrong plus if the 5a is coming out soon.
