Google Pixel 3a Review 3 Months Later!

Hey guys, so we have a quick review here of the Google Pixel 3a, which I've owned for 3 months now. So first I do want to note that Google did send me this phone for free, but I was not paid to make this video or any other Pixel video. So the Pixel 3a is the first budget Pixel phone and it costs about half as much as the Pixel 3. Now I'm not going to focus that much on the regular 3 in this video because I already did a full comparison right there in the top right corner. However the conclusion to that video is I believe the Pixel 3a is definitely a better value for your money than the regular 3. The 3a is technically a mid-range phone, however it does have some flagship specs such as the camera which I'll get to in a second.

The internals are mid-range caliber with only 4GB of RAM and the Snapdragon 670, so don't expect the most advanced games like Fortnite to run too smoothly on it. That said, for pretty much everything else but advanced games the phone is pretty quick and smooth. I think for most people you'd definitely be happy with the speed for everyday tasks. The near stock UI is very simple and definitely one of my favorites. Also since this is Pixel you will be getting those day 1 Android updates.

The 1080p OLED screen looks pretty nice and I'm definitely glad there's not a notch this time. The battery is actually better than the battery on the Pixel 3, so it should get you through the day without any issues. The design is mostly plastic but it looks and feels pretty sleek. It's definitely not a cheap plastic material like most mid-rangers. The fingerprint scanner on the back is not in-display like some of the newer 2019 flagships, but of course that's expected and I will say it's actually a bit more accurate than the in-display fingerprint scanners I've used.

I do wish the phone had more than 64GB of internal storage or at least MicroSD card support. But once again for most consumers the amount of storage will be enough. One very nice feature that most flagships including the regular Pixel 3 lack is the headphone jack. With even Samsung now ditching the jack for the Galaxy Note 10 this is definitely a pretty awesome feature. The 3a also has dual speakers which are pretty good quality.

So first we have the 3a. The front camera is good quality and it's in line with some flagships but really the phone's #1 selling point is the rear camera. The rear camera is excellent and it's the best on the market for taking photos. It's the same lens as the 3's rear camera and they are usually my go-to in most cases. Having a camera that's better than most $1000 flagships is extremely impressive and it's also important to note that while the lens is exactly the same as the 3's, the 3a's Snapdragon chipset isn't as strong.

So from what I've found the photo quality between the 3 and 3a is the same, but the 3a does take a little bit longer to process photos. But again, in terms of the actual result both do look the same. Night Sight in particular is my favorite for any smartphone. The video camera lacks a couple modes like 4K 60fps but aside from that it's also one of my favorites for recording video. The only other downside is there's only 1 camera lens rather than 2 or 3 like some recent flagships but the lack of a wide angle lens or a true telephoto lens is definitely not a big deal.

The phone is available in Just Black, Clearly White and Purple-ish for $399. I'd definitely recommend this phone or the larger Google Pixel 3a XL to most people. Keep in mind this is not a perfect phone by any means it's still a mid-ranger but it's certainly good enough in pretty much all the categories and more importantly it's also excellent in several categories. Given the price you can't expect much more from it. Alright guys so thanks for watching and be sure to check out my comparison with the Pixel 3.
