Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S10 NEWS!

So, the Korean media is reporting that the Galaxy Note 9 will come with the good ol' rear-mounted finger scanner, probably just the one you are seeing on the latest Galaxy S9 renders. Yes, Samsung is apparently still working with a variety of suppliers, as well as the technology's creators from Synaptics, to introduce an in-display fingerprint sensor, but the setup will be mastered next year at the earliest. Samsung partnered with a number of sensor providers two years ago for the required components, but various technical difficulties prevented Samsung from using them in its flagship handsets. Samsung has been looking at three different in-display fingerprint scanning solutions that would deliver a reliable user experience, including optical, capacitive, and ultrasound sensors. Neither type works as expected. Optical sensors, the one you see on Vivo phones have lower accuracy, as the user's finger doesn't touch the actual sensor, and the information must be captured through semi-transparent OLED screens.

Also, the sensor doesn't work with every screen protectors. It has to be very thin otherwise it won't recognise your fingeprint. Capacitive sensors, meanwhile, have higher accuracy than optical sensors. These sensors have to be mounted on top of the display and could be made transparent, but the problem is that they're less durable. Using ultrasound might be the way to go, This method has high accuracy and presents no durability issues but it's very expensive and it's hard to produce in mass quantities, and also is slower than a rear-mounted scanner would be.

Anyways, the report does mention that Samsung has not completely stopped working on in-display fingerprint sensor technology and considering that the Note 9 will go into mass production in June, there's still a lot of time for this technology to be perfected. So take this information with a healthy dose of salt for now. We haven't even had the Galaxy S9 yet but we're already hearing rumors about the Galaxy S10, and early signs point to the phone using a 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset. That theory is based on a comment made by a Qualcomm contractor who claimed to be working on such a chip That would make it smaller than the 10nm Snapdragon 845, which could allow for both improved performance and better efficiency, meaning whatever phone it's in might not only be more powerful but also last longer between charges. Quandt further notes that the chipset will probably use Qualcomm's X24 modem, and that's important too, as it supports theoretical download speeds of up to 2Gbps, up from the 1.2Gbps max of the X20 modem in the Snapdragon 845. That said, let me know your thoughts on this and I'll see you guys tomorrow... Peace out!.
