2018 BMW M3 CS Review - The Best M3

I'm Jacob here go for Drive, 2018, BMW, m3, CS, California's fashion; no, that's the Mustang yeah! This is the coop sport, but it's not a coupe. No, it's not. The only thing I could find that said. Cs was Coupe, sport and I believe is a rodent track article. So it's an it's a throwback name, maybe possibly doesn't actually mean anything according to any BMW literature. So whatever more letters equals cooler yeah exactly this is definitely the cooler m3 horsepower and torque 453 horsepower and 420 this thing's fast.

This is definitely pretty fast to show how fast is's, let's initiate launch control, guess how you do that I'm assuming gas brake, kinda, Rick gas, but not really, try it here. We go. No, no, try it in your M mode, M, ?, no nope, because the traction is to be fully off. Let's do that quickly. That actually kind of makes sense.

No I'll! Just do it right here. Traction is now fully off. Okay now do it yep? Oh, yes, okay, that's a little dumb, but it also kind of makes sense. There's one thing: that's dumber! That was part of the plan. It says you need to drive 10 kilometers and warm up the engine appropriately, or you plan this I planned this.

Oh, it didn't work, you don't need to drive 10 kilometers. You just need to make sure the engine is up to temperature. It also means we shouldn't plan anything as we normally never do. Yeah, and I was hoping that launch control wouldn't work for you, and then I was the only one who could do launch control too bad man. Alright, but anyways.

It does show a race flag, it does work well, it does it actually launches pretty hard and since we're at clich? corner might as well talk about clich? corner handling. Here we go pull send and this quick. So well! Oh, yes, because it has our favorite tires: Michelin cup twos. They are actually the best tires. We've ever used.

We haven't used slicks yet so these are pretty much road-legal slicks. The car is so flat through the corners turned in as show direct. The steering is really heavy, really heavy, nice and race car. This is so much better than the m240 ice -. This is way better I.

Don't even think it's the same manufacture back to back, but I do have one issue with that: I noticed with the steering might as well hit that up right now, the steering wheel is too good yeah. He agrees with me. It's like holding a cup of coffee the whole time while driving yeah, yeah or just like holding your arm like. Alright, it gets sore yeah, so you drive for a couple of minutes, and you're fine. But if you drive for an hour half an hour, your thumbs start to her US.

We have small hands apparently, but I don't know back to horsepower. This is the most powerful m3. Isn't three has four doors? Yes, it does because it's a m3 in my mind, I'm used to seeing two-door m3, okay, we'll get over that because that see him for now, okay, cool, like so or more yeah. It does look a lot better, but I like my sedans, a regular m3 has 425 horsepower, so this gets a little of a bumper power. This also, ladies, a little less only a hundred and ten pounds, though so this gets more horsepower because it's the CS yes, and it's lighter, because it's a CS, and it's more expensive, we'll talk about that later, a lot more expensive, more expensive yeah.

But this is a lot rarer. It is there's only 1200 of these worldwide, not just Canada wide worldwide, and they made it a press car what yeah shut up BMW. This is the same twin-turbo three litres, inline-six that the m3 also gets in line sixes sound extra cool. Don't they that you do, and we should probably talk about that exhaust sound, because it's actually really, really good? It almost sounds synthetic inside, but that's only because it sounds so good outside exactly I kind of miss out on it inside which kind of suffers it does sound. Okay, like you said, put outside it's so good.

It's like what every manufacturer is trying to make a fake sound for these guys. Just did it naturally yeah yeah, here's, the real one, don't eat anything. Synthetic many outside sounds so good, so mean when you get to high RPM's. It's just screaming: oh, it does and if you put it into Sport Plus mode, you get some crackles and pops, and it gets louder because it's valved, but we don't have that, like stupid, breath, pip up up up like the BMW 440 IX, no, no! No! No! This is all like very often it sounds really I wish. There was like a dial where you could turn up like the silliness yeah yeah I think this is very authentic.

Old-School BMW sound yeah, whereas the 440 I just kind of made it really synthetic and fake try to be AMG but also kind of good yeah yeah. The engine is super, responsive, there's pretty much no turbo lag, especially if we put in Sport+ yeah. It's really quick like its torque. All the time no turbo lag like I said any rpm, it's always pulling. If we're talking about it being quick, it is quick.

We did get into this right after the gt2 RS and the gt3 yeah bragging over here. Okay I'm, not bragging I'm, just saying at first. It didn't feel that fast. It's all perspective. You need to take like two days out of those Porsche's to feel how fast this actually is.

However, to put those Porsche's into perspective, this does 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It's very fast. Let that one to 2.8 seconds exactly, but this is fast, though this is very fast. You want talk about. The transmission I would love to because I, don't like it, it's not as fast as the Porsche's which I was spoiled for a bit, but I feel like AMG is even faster as well I.

Think so too. This is a 7-speed dual-clutch, so it's not the OF that you'd sometimes use I, don't like certain parts of it. We have several modes which we'll get to later, but if you have it in the most extreme mode, it shifts pretty quickly when you're in the high rpm Repair, but when you're just driving around town, it's okay, it's not the fastest. However, where my issue lies not with the speed of the shifting, it is with a round town driving from zero to five o'clock. Oh, is that the depth yeah? So when you have it in the ultra sport mode, when you're going off the line, it does this weird thing as if you don't know how to drive a manual yeah, it only does it sometimes yeah.

It's weird. It's just I've driven a lot of cars. This shouldn't happen to me a kind of thing exactly this is automatic. I mean it's a dual clutch, but it is an automatic Joana. You have no control pedals.

That's the only way it's not an automatic, but you have no control over how that works. So it's a cars fault, and it only doesn't sometimes, so I will kind of partially forgive it, but it's not my face. I can live with it, yeah exactly. You could definitely live with it. Like I said it doesn't happen every time, but that's it.

No other issues pretty much with the whole car. Actually to be honest, another cool thing about the transmission. When you're in launch control you needed to be in sport, shifting two paddles, that's right! If you hold your foot down all the way to the floor, it'll automatically keep shifting through gears for you. That's also had the BMW M 760li word: yeah yeah makes sense, read your owners manual people let's get to the different drive modes. This is your model.

However. This is my most favorite layout out of any car I've ever driven for adjusting all the different modes. Yeah, yes kind of, so we've got three buttons right here, technically, four with traction, because that is part of the whole system. So we have our steering. We have our suspension, and we have our engine and then the traction buttons.

Everything is displayed perfectly in my gauge cluster under my rpm, so I know exactly what mode I'm in at all times and I- absolutely love it. You can also customize it through m1 and m2 buttons through the infotainment, which is actually the best thing I've ever seen, I get why you like that, but I like the Mercedes style, where there's individual comfort, Sport+ race, I like to just turn the knob and know everything is in that position. I get that. But this is so customizable that right away, I know exactly what mode I want to play. I, exact I think you need, if you own this car, you will love it instead of just getting in and turning it to race.

It's better that way exactly and there's also a transmission one which I should also mention it. So there's technically, four or five depending on how you look at it be honest: I didn't notice much difference with the transmission I didn't either. So there are three different modes for it and depending on which mode rain is supposed to shift faster, but it shifts pretty decently in all modes and back to the sport modes. What else kind of sucks is that when you switch your modes, it doesn't show like a cool graphic like sport, mode, Sport, Plus, race, I'm, fine with that I like that in the Mercedes I, like the presentation, I, don't mind it. This is very driver, oriented and I.

Appreciate that there's no presentation, it's all just driver oriented you want to something: I, don't like about driver-oriented. What's that, where the each is, why what's wrong with that I want it dead center, like the Porsche's I, got really used to that, and I love that that is the ideal, but I don't mind it, especially because of this heads-up too play yes, you can customize the heads-up display through the infotainment. You can have just your regular speed and speedometer and all that stuff, but you can also have it in an M mode. That I can see my rpm, and it's the best thing ever. It's my favorite heads-up display out of any other car.

What I don't like about the Rpm is that it shows light blue over dark, blue, ok, fair I want like more contrast, red, like I, don't need to like squint to check where my rpm is. That is bad, like they're, like 10% great at 20%, greatly come on, however, at the top of that otherwise shift like exactly I. Think I, like the Mercedes e63 AMG shift lights. More remember how it came across kind of like s2000 yeah. That is really cool.

I do want to touch on the suspension a little more. It is very stiff. This car is so stiff, even in comfort mode. It's appropriately stiff I like that in a car. That's fast, though, exactly it's very appropriate for the car, because this is essentially a race car.

The m3 is a little more subtle, whereas this is like a weekend race car. The only issue I've had with it, is really sending it into a corner where you really full send it, and the front feels like it wants to get away from you, because the boost hits so hard that the boost is hitting while you're turning. So you need to give it a little more input. I haven't noticed that, but I'll take your word for it, because you seem to be really into that yeah, it's a little less predictable than I would have liked, but it's also fine just deal with it. You'll be completely fine, because this is the best version of the m3.

What maybe you should drive, and then I'll show you how to notice it ok, but we should also talk about, looks yeah. This thing is stunning: look, you know what I'm going to tell you right away: I'm gonna brush over the infotainment, because it says the rest of them and I don't really care fair enough watch, our empty 40 I reviewed a lot of same stuff. Let's talk about the looks go for it. What makes a m3 and m3 the back end. It is the big rear quarter panels.

They look so good, so fat so be wide and those tires help for sure yeah. My favorite tires and I really like the graphic on the tire. Yes, so these are the cup twos like we said, however, for $0 you can option the ps4s so that they last longer don't do that yeah, you kind of don't do that if you're going to buy this car you're buying it, because it's a race, car, and you're gonna race, car it on the weekends you race, car, with the proper tires which are the cup twos. Okay back to the looks all right: fine, whatever rear, diffuser yeah, it looks amazing. Carbon fiber, rear exhaust, not carbon fiber but also looks amazing.

Quad tips rear spoiler. It is carbon fiber. It is a gurney flap, gurney flap and then the rear, taillights yeah. They look amazing, so they pretty much nailed it. They absolutely nailed.

It looks especially on the rear end, but also the front end pretty much the little car now for the side. We've got a wicked body line right down the center yeah we do, and then we have vents in the front which are real for the brakes. I really like the wheels. They are very appropriate, very race car and behind those wheels we have carbon ceramics. That's an option on this car yeah I like big brakes and I like cool colorful, brake calipers, and they work really well.

What I really want to know more about is the roof yeah. So that's also carbon fiber, carbon fiber, reinforced plastic. So most of the stuff on this car is CR. FP no sunroof, though no sunroof, because race, car and lower weight. Okay, that's good, lower center of gravity, ?, okay! What's the top panel in front of the roof through the hood, that is my favorite part of the looks of the entire car.

That's also carbon fiber, reinforced plastic and that hood vent looks amazing. I love it from the driver position. It looks very good from a side view. It really does ? is that you know something's up with this m3 yeah, but especially from the top as we're showing you right now, and we've got a crazy-cool carbon-fiber lip at the front yeah exactly it's a little sketchy because it's very low, it's not that low. Furthermore, it's not that low, but still going into curbs.

You do have to take it at the low car, bro yeah, and it's like right, carbon-fiber at the ground. Some extra scared exactly, and the headlights look unreal as they do on every ?, so true or badass BMW headlights yeah. This thing creeping up in your rearview, is pretty menacing. I think I know your favorite part, though you haven't said what your favorite part is. What is it? The mirrors? Yes, okay, they look, really cool, you're, really swooping, and they look cool from the driver position as well, exactly and now for a little clich? corner sand, Yuri style.

Okay. So, like I said, I want you to feel this out, so send it and turn and mid-turn. You're going to feel the come out, and you're going to feel like the front tires want to get away from you now to ascend right here, so you got to wrestle it a little by wrestling. You mean, have the most fun over steering on corners, well, yeah, exactly okay, and then sign me up this time, um anything that we this handle exactly how I wanted to handle. That's what I'm saying you have to be ready for that, otherwise, it will get out of hand.

You have to be ready for a rear-wheel drive car to overseer when you're flooring it in a turn. Yes, but the amount of boost that hits during the level that you're at in the mid-corner is a little sketchier than I would have liked just a little. Actually I've actually had a great time, I'm sure you are Yuri. What color is this car 40:18 flat gray yeah black gray, the SOX had actually called Lime. Rock gray call 2018.

It is 2018 gray, yes, which I'm alright, with whatever it looks, really, really good in person. It is the burnt orange 2018, I. Think it's gonna age better though Yeah right, we're done with the outside. Let's talk about the interior. Small cup of coffee fits just barely, however, they smartened up, and they move the USB port from the 2 Series, and they moved it over to the back you're getting ready.

Our cue 3 2 1 Oh visor test fail horrendous, BMW man, but it is a fun cars yeah. It's not super car, so it doesn't pass because it fails. It doesn't even get near the supercar test and though it doesn't really going to bother. Nope, okay, the infotainment same as every other BMW doesn't ruin Satellite Radio's the power button doesn't turn it kind of. Does it do live rewind now that I'm safe, some guy tried to tell us on Twitter how to do it on his BMW.

Doesn't work like that here? I said: do it through the numbers, but then it still doesn't really work. Yeah, yeah hard, hard fail. Anyways moving on hey I got a thing for you. What's that is this past the gas gauge test? I, don't know it. Doesn't it does not? You don't actually feel safe with gas.

I saw the other 3-series next to me and I saw where his gas tank was gas gauge fail. We do have a little of piano black, not too much I, don't mind. It. I already see that as dusty, but whatever there's not much important part is there's no piano black down here exactly it's not on the touch points poor on the dust settling points. It's on an angle.

The fanciest part about this interior is the cutouts for CS and the steering wheel line yeah. They actually cut out the stitching, and it looks amazing. It's cool it's definitely. It's definitely impressive. The seats are super comfortable there.

So bolstered they've got holes in them. Yeah, they do that's the coolest part. No, is it? Okay, also the badge on the seats that lights up at night? That's the coolest part, but also the holes. The bolstering is adjustable, and we do have holes in the seats and the seats light up, so they are pretty damn cool seats. Are you satisfied with how low the seats can go? I'm, actually not I, want them a little lower a lot lower yeah I want to be like this I know.

I know anything else in here: yeah the seat belts, oh yeah, yeah, yeah super cool, and we also have the EM stitching on the wheel as well. But, besides that it's familiar BMW interior, it is, but it's definitely a touch more special. Now we should definitely address the price, because that is the biggest problem with this entire car. What does a normal m3 start at 77,000, and you can get it with the manual? You can't get this with the manual. So what does the CS start at one hundred and thirteen thousand five hundred dollars can a yeah, that's the start and this one's sitting at $1203,600.

But if this is a collectors version kind of yeah, it is then like whatever it's kind of, not whatever, though, but it's a high-end company doing fancy stuff and limited runs for people who really want it. Why not jack up the price I think they can jack up the price I just don't think they should have jacked it up as much as they did. It's almost $50,000 more than a m3 yeah, there's only 1200 in the world, but it's almost $50,000 more than m3 yeah because, there's only 1200 Lowell world that that justifies it kind of does, but it kind of doesn't. Let us know in the comments below is the price justified by the rareness and a luxury company. You can actually get a c63 s with over 500 horsepower for less.

What did the e63 S wagon start at right around the price of this one and that's an e, which is a class above with over 600 horsepower very different cars? This is basically like a scalpel and that's basically a hammer. So would you recommend $140,000 mm 3cs for somebody who really wanted it? If you really like em threes- and you want a precision track car that you're absolutely going to drive on the track every single weekend- yes, otherwise just get the regular m3 or unless your collector you're going to put in a bar for the rest of its life.
