Samsung Unpacked 2021 - Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Buds Pro, Galaxy SmartTag (Live Commentary)

Podcasts you love from people. You trust this is twit news episode, 366 recorded thursday, January 14, 2021, Samsung, unpacked 2021. , hello, everyone and welcome to twit news. Live coverage of Samsung's unpacked 2021 event, I'm Jason Howell uh waking up bright and early at 7 00 am well right before 7 a. m. I've got my cup of coffee here and joining me to talk all about Samsung's uh, big news this morning is my co-host from all about android Florence ion also with coffee.

Exactly also with my cup of coffee, so cheers Jason we're going to do this together with the coffee, which means we'll probably be more animated towards the end of the event when we officially have all the announcements of everything, but thus far, it's just a lot of rumors a lot of speculation, and you know what I'm glad to have it. I'm glad to have some sense of normalcy of there's speculation in an unprecedented time. We hate that word. That's right! Yeah, we're we're going to learn about these uh. These expensive phones that maybe at this point in time, we actually don't have the money to uh to go ahead and spring for uh this time around.

According to the leaked, renders they're past deli um, I think there's a carbon fiber variant, that's making the rounds. It's very corvette-like, okay! Well, for the sports car enthusiasts yeah, it's like a sports car in your pocket is that a sports car in your pocket uh. He had a s21, s21 plus and a s21 ultra, the last of which is supposed supposedly going to knock out the note from yeah s. Pen support, though I'm going to be really curious to see what that means. Is it just that? Oh, yeah? We support s pen on the device, but it's not quite as an embedded kind of cohesive experience.

As the note, because the note series, I think, a lot of the note fans. Yes, they love the s pen support, obviously, but it's an integrated piece of the hardware you know. Obviously it embeds into the device is the note 20 uh we talked about how there might be possibly a different methodology for the for carting around the s pen, so maybe a case instead of the usual embedding inside the actual chassis, which is just a little less chic. You know it's like yeah, okay, look at the case and attach it there. I don't know it's not quite the same, but I get it I understand.

Maybe it reduces some complexity on Samsung's side. Maybe it allows them to drop the price a little because they don't have to make the room for it inside the device. It probably does. Actually so yeah those three devices and actually the baseline from what rumors are saying about the baseline s21. It could start at around 850 instead of the starting price of the thousand dollars on the s20.

So it's about looking at dropping the price a little on these premium flagships it's about time, so we're starting the little uh wishy-washy graphic um intro for the event should also say we're. Also hearing that we might uh find out more about the Galaxy Buds pro, which would be the follow-up to the Galaxy Buds live from last year, those little bean-shaped earbuds um. I hear about that. Also, the smart tag, galaxy smart tag, which is apparently a tile competitor. So this is like something that you'd attach onto something that you don't want to lose, and it would, you know, track via Bluetooth, but I'm understanding that it'll have Samsung smarts in it, which is again more pushing of that ecosystem.

So this is it's always from Samsung hello and welcome to unpack it's so good to be with you again. I could not be more excited about all the incredible innovations we are announcing today. They continue Samsung's legacy as the pioneer of meaningful experiences that are designed for everyone. Our universe is an entire ecosystem of intelligent, connected devices that define expectations also and give you the freedom to live life without borders without boundaries. When it comes to true innovation, we are the only game in town last year was a reminder of how important technology has become to all of us.

Samsung Galaxy devices helped connect millions of friends and families and enabled entire industries to go remote. During this next normal we've been working hard to support our customers and employees. With our innovations, the challenges of 2020 have made us more determined to fully tap the immense power and potential of tech this year, Samsung is pushing innovation even stronger. We will give you groundbreaking ways to personalize your devices, so they reflect you because we want you to be free to go further, to forge your own path without limitations, without constraints. As part of our long-standing commitment to open collaboration, we will expand the Samsung universe even more with new partners with Samsung mobile, where you start your journey, never determines where you will go after all.

Every day should be truly happy to kick things off. I want to introduce you to a product that I absolutely love, one that I use all the time. In fact, they may be small, but they sure are very good design statements, multi-dimensional audio experience that will blow you away meet the next generation of our incredible earbuds' galaxy was pro all right, so this would be the follow-up to the Galaxy Buds live, which personally, I never had any experience with the buds live. I've I've tested a lot of in-ear earbuds at this point, but not the buds live. What about you? I have not tested the live, I'm still using the first gen ones that I have, and I really look good.

I mean Samsung's doing a good job sort of giving us a non-apple variant for those of us who want to get some buds and want to be in the true wireless, but don't obviously want to subscribe to some other ecosystem. So I like it right. I hope these are as comfortable because we've been talking about on all about android how uncomfortable some of these true wireless buds uh are, and I yeah these look a little different from what they've been doing so again, I'm always curious about the comfort. That's the big thing: anybody can do. Noise-canceling yeah, I think, what's interesting from what we're looking at um is that it has a little of that, like rubber tip that extends further into the ear canal, which I don't believe the Galaxy Buds live had, and I think from a comfort standpoint that you go either way right like if you don't want anything extending into your ear canal.

This might not be good, but if you want that extra kind of like noise ceiling, uh capability, you're going to get that with a format like that which is still just sort of you know again the thing this these buds do well- which is, I don't think, talked about enough- is the uh the noise pass through. So you can actually sort of hear what's going on around you um, not that a lot of people are commuting these days. But you know the most impressive, sound experience on Galaxy Buds. We use earbuds to listen to our favorite music watch our favorite movies and connect with the people we love. They help us tune into the content.

We care about and tune out the content. We don't they even transport us to another world, just us and the audio we love. I love to walk around the house with my buds and talking to my friends, my family yeah, that helps us connect with ourselves personal space when we need it most. If you listen to music, often you know what a big difference. Sound quality makes the foundation of our Galaxy Buds.

Lineup is amazing, sound and Galaxy Buds pro are packed with pro sound quality, so many of them just look the same. These definitely have a stylistic quality to them that sets them up. The Galaxy Buds pro will make your listening experience extraordinary. Our engineers and designers work closely together to bring this incredible sound experience to life. Let's listen as good as we can.

The goal of Galaxy Buds pro is simple: to deliver the best sound experience period, most earbuds immerse you in audio and stop right there, but I just think it's fascinating that they decided to stick with, like the sound experience to chances of a keynote yeah. There's no there's no indication that the world is like in any sort of different form at all, thus far yeah I mean well- and I mean at this point we're what nine months into seeing keynotes that are done like this. You know pre-recorded uh for obvious reasons and everything so uh there's a little of uh precedent. As far as that's concerned, a woofer delivers bass, I'm certainly getting more used to pitches. If I'm missing the Broadway uh musicals of Samsung's days of past, but most wireless earbuds only use a one-way speaker system.

The reason size building two-way speakers into a small earbud body requires an innovative solution. So engineers try I've used the word innovative right, maybe 12 13 times right now, they're the only innovative yeah for more optimal use of space. This breakthrough in engineering enables the Galaxy Buds pro to feature two-way speakers. I want to know whose job it is to put together these like diagrams, because they have to make them fascinating and do all sorts of these like effects just make it so yeah captivating, more than a manufacturing line quality, doesn't end yeah right exactly. How do you make a product like this? You know sexy.

I want to interview that person, because I want to know that I'm tracking sensors and Dolby head tracking butts pro can detect head movements. Now, when you turn your head, the audio will recalibrate and put you in the middle of the scene. What really takes audio to the next there's over ear headphones that do stuff like this, the galaxy s pro uses its outer mic to monitor ambient noise and its inner mic to monitor noise inside your ear. Based on these noise readings, the advanced chipset generates an anti-noise signal and eliminates up to 99 of background noise. It is kind of insane that we have a chipset, a teeny, tiny chipset that we're putting in our ear but as much with intelligent ANC as soon as you start to speak, a microphone detects for your voice, while a sensor detects for vibrations.

An advanced AI algorithm then ensures your voice isn't mistaken for other voices to confirm you're in a conversation, hey, hey doom, oh yeah. I think my shout-out automatically ramps it down. That's cool yeah and with improved latency, that's nice, because so many times I'll have my earphones in, and you know one of my kids will ask me a question on their homework or whatever, and the only way I can even pay attention is to pull them out in a panic. You know like what did you just say: yeah, that's that's nice or the awkwardness. When I'm walking the kid and a neighbor comes out, and then I'm like yeah yeah, yeah yeah hold on.

Let me tap my let me tap my ear a few times. I can't hear you yet looks like I can, but I can't, it detects your voice. Two outer mics positioned directly toward the mouth perform beam forming, but I have to say one of the reasons I like the Samsung beds, thus far more than like the sort of cheaper buds is because of the audio pass through the fact that I can't like your cars, help you get around, I mean that's a common pain point when I'm walking with the baby, like I'm still in a neighborhood yeah still trying to watch out yeah, you have to be careful an outer mesh combined with any wind chamber to disperse and further neutral, but I still want to listen to my podcast. Finally, advanced software distinguishes between voice and wind sound patterns. To ensure no leftover.

Breeze makes its way into a call with Galaxy Buds pro it's no longer necessary to choose between being immersed in your own world and being able to connect with the world around. You enjoy the ultimate sound experience with Galaxy Buds, pro tiny, yet powerful earbuds. I like the color schematic that Samsung's going for. I wish she was introduced a little while about to be honest, music transports us to different worlds. We get lost in stories through audiobooks and podcasts, and time flies when we're chatting with our friends, Galaxy Buds pro understand and adjust based on what we're doing they can recognize when we're listening to tunes or catching up with family and figure out when we want to move from our phone to our tablet and back again, an auto switch lets Galaxy Buds pro switch with you if you're watching something on your tablet and your phone rings, don't rush around Galaxy Buds pro will easily switch audio to the device you're using no need to do this editing device.

That's what I wanted incredible sound quality, I'm guessing an important part of any listening experience. We carefully studied the shape and contour of the ear to make Galaxy Buds pro fit more securely they're designed to sit just right within three key parts of your ear. We also added a two millimeter outer shell of the buds to create air flow and balance the pressure around your ear, so you'll have a balanced fit without the feeling of tightness yeah, and I do I actually really like that as a trend that I'm seeing wireless earbuds too, that little vent. So you don't have the total suction quality. When you put these in here, whenever I take my mask off or remove my hat and scarf, my buds will stay right where they are and at ipx7 the Galaxy Buds pro have the highest standard of water resistance in the Galaxy Buds lineup.

We intricately shaped every part of buds pro to make your everyday listening. Experiences exceptional right down to the case you put them in. If you have a pair of buds, live we've made sure you can still use your accessories. You can get your own pair of Galaxy Buds pro in three amazing colors they'll be available for 199 starting January 15th. Let's take another look: it's tomorrow: okay, 200 bucks, introducing galaxy buzz pro, definitely top of the line.

Uh true wireless earbuds. This has been a theme. The last couple of weeks on all about android is like do you have to spend 200 250 on good, true wireless earbuds, a lot of people have written in to say no, you don't like there's a lot of good options in the 50 you know and below range. There are trade-offs, though, and here you're, getting like all the bells and whistles. So that's why you're spending two hundred dollars on incredible sound quality, intelligent ANC and our most secure fit ever award once again, you're listening.

Is it the last one we're enhancing? Today they had a little tile, just transport us to different worlds. It makes all of our activities easier and more convenient. The smartphone is one of our most helpful and most personal devices, but we've all experienced that panic from misplacing our phone. It can instantly okay, so ruin our days. This is going to be the, so we've expanded one of our favorite services to help keep track of the things that matter most to you.

Smart things find uh-huh. We've made our website, that's a good name for it, and we brought the service to your phone by adding it to our SmartThings app yeah. I figured SmartThings fine has given you peace of mind when it comes to locating your phone last October, we extended it to help you track and locate your wireless earbuds tablets and smartwatches, and this year we're expanding SmartThings find even further. So you can track any of your belongings, even if they don't have a built-in connection with galaxy smart tag. Galaxy smart tag allows you to take charge of your everyday belongings in an extraordinary way.

It's a small portable device you'll be able to easily attach to the things you love most, whether they have their own connection and its coin size battery lasts for months. So you can trust that smart tag will help. You track down your favorite things, even if they've been gone for a while. Imagine that you left your door open and your ROG ran off. You'd feel panicked, not knowing where your pet has gone with galaxy's smart tag on his caller using smart things find if he's far away the smart tag on your dog's caller can send Bluetooth signals to a community of nearby galaxy users who can help you track it down? Okay, so what will you use, which I would argue might be a little better yeah better? If there are the is the phone network? That's participating, um yeah! You really need that full phone network to really uh be active and lit up around that thing that you're tracking, in order for it to be right, but I'm thinking about how many people have Samsung's smartphones.

True, you know it's going to reduce the amount of people that are actually participating out of the box. You can yeah, we'll see galaxy smart tag plus is built with ultra-wide band technology or USB, an advanced wireless communication system that makes your devices smarter by giving them spatial accuracy and directional capabilities, and the same system can help you locate things by combining the power of navigation with art hanks to USB and AR finder galaxy smart tag plus will help you locate your belongings with unprecedented accuracy by guiding you to their location. I mean they'll. Take you to a bookcase in the corner of your office that you're yeah, definitely hearing more about UWP ultra-wide band, uh technology. So, like I've, tried these tracking systems in the past, they were reliant like 100 on Bluetooth, and it was less effective in practice as much as you loved the things you put in yeah, it was, it was fine, but it definitely needed improvements, and I wonder how USB is going to improve this tracking, certainly a hot topic right now, so 29.99 for one um and the best part is they're, not the only extraordinary devices we're sharing with you today. Back to you really, oh, oh, oh,, thank you.

I had no idea, I thought that was the event. It was headphones and a smart tag thing such great additions to the Samsung ecosystem, but we are not done yet. Oh, we live in a mobile first world, and you deserve the ultimate mobile experience I do this year. We want you to give you something different, a giant leap forward, to empower you to express yourself and live your life, exactly how you want. I am so proud to introduce our new Lexi device, the galaxy s21 5g, designed for how you live today, but loaded with the innovation of tomorrow.

Five galaxy s21 is groundbreaking on all fronts. It has an iconic boundary-defined design that will turn has the fastest chip ever for galaxy, together with our most complete software and user experience and a Fe camera far beyond anything we've made before, but not as epic is what we'll find out about every ultra look like a pro, especially its video capabilities, where you have the power of cinema. In the palm of your hand, I'm incredibly excited to introduce a smartphone that changes everything to make your everyday epic, the s21 and the s21 plus, is what they're, starting with, which means we're we're going to get the follow-up on the ultra after this. But I imagine if this is any. If last year was any indication the s21 you know, might have a plastic design as opposed to the kind of the glass design like there's.

Definitely some step, downs uh that we're starting to see in the flagship series that are anyway, less than ultra cost-cutting. I mean you're using the were using the Pixel 4a, which had a plastic sort of makeup, and you were enjoying that design. So there's a way to make it sleek and make it so that people want to use it. I think it also might make it a tiny bit more durable for some folks, something that doesn't immediately shatter and cut your fingers' galaxy. Yes, yes, indeed, these days, we rely on our phones even more than we.

I really like the way it looks. They help us discover the way yeah. It has a little like just uh the everyday little pressed out like around the camera. You'll have a device that changes everything, and it's a nice uh nice shift in their design language, much better than what they were kind of doing with that big style and taste like camera bag. We created a revolutionary new photo and video experience with incredible enhancements in our camera technology.

That much innovation requires a fresh new design to match, and that's why the one series looks like color, and it is my favorite color. So it's speaking to me very this camera housing is stronger and more durable camera housing encased in metal and your phone's designed right, because I mean I've definitely seen people who have dropped their glass encased everywhere. You know they're uh, the camera module, that's encased in glass, and I mean that can shatter in there. So this would protect. This would be more durable combinations that stand out.

Galaxy s21 comes in four colors, while s21 plus comes in three. We give you different options to fit your unique style. These devices are designed to open up a world of extraordinary. You feel like Samsung is the only one that has kind of a manufacturing prowess and money to be able to offer this many colors totally important parts of any smartphone. We use it to chat with our friends and watch movies that make us laugh, no matter how great a phone's design or camera is.

You need an amazing display to get the most from your device at Samsung. We are the industry leader in brilliant displays, providing the best viewing experience on galaxy devices with edge-to-edge screens. I mean I have a Samsung TV and AMOLED screens from the very beginning, giving you a more vivid viewing experience than LCD screens. Last year, we introduced a super smooth viewing experience on our s20 devices, with the 120 hertz display when you use a phone that smooth you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. Today, we've made another leap forward: building the s21 series with an adaptive screen that goes between 48 and 120 hertz, and they are using a lot of BTS footage by the way yeah they are.

Your viewing experience is optimized for your content, the contrast ratio and unbelievable peak brightness. Let you enjoy all the vivid colors in the content you're watching, even if you're, outside on a really bright sunny day, but this display doesn't just look better. It's also better for you blue light can make it really hard for us to sleep, and it often hurts our eyes. Our new eye, comfort shield, analyzes your usage pattern to automatically adjust your blue light filter. That way, your eyes will stay comfortable, no matter what, whether you choose, galaxy s21 and its 6.2 inch display, or the s21 plus, and it's 6.7 inch display how far we've come. You will get the most intelligent display.

We've ever put on a smartphone, really become normal vivid colors, an adaptive refresh rate and eye comfort, shield you'll be totally immersed in this new screen. Now I have heard that there are settings there will be settings in here to lock in full resolution full 120 hertz on these devices, but also on the ultra, which I think has a 4k display or has the higher resolutions expensive. I mean I'm just thinking about it in terms of resources. Yeah, I mean if the adaptive feature works, the way it should with pro like photo and video quality thanks to AI this pro grade. Camera does all the thinking for you.

I have to tell you. Sometimes I feel like every other android manufacturer does video better and then you lenses that render your Mac still does photo the best that kind of intelligence photo's the best yeah. I have been relying the past year and a half on Samsung's phones, uh for recording video, b-roll uh for all of my reviews, uh, particularly in the last year since we've been at home and uh. It's been amazing, like I've. I've had excellent results like super impressed with it.

That's amazing yeah, both on the s20 ultra and now the note 20 ultra. The pro video mode allows me to do a lot with the combination of our new chipset and photo enhancing AI capabilities, s21 and s21, plus their photos, though always very, very processed. After the fact yeah. I would agree, I'm not as much of a fan with the uh, with the galaxy uh photos compared to the galaxy video, the subjects from their backgrounds to bring depth and focus to your photos and the intelligent camera on s21 and s21 plus enhances the natural bulky effect, whether in broad daylight or in the dark. So you can capture beautiful, portraits under the stars.

The s21 series has various portrait modes that saturate the subject and make them pop our new devices even detect the direction of light to help you capture, studio, quality, portraits with studio mode AI, adjusts the lighting to create perfect, portraits that look crisp and natural high key or low-key mono modes round out your photo, and you can even have AI select matching colors, not going to lie. I wish captures amazing portraits of your forehead yeah. I do like that. It's safe blowing out a candle for his eighth birthday. Portraits are a great way to take gorgeous photos of the people and pets we love, but sometimes I want to snap a shot of another important person me selfies are how I show the world my best looks and how I bring my friends into my favorite moments with ai-based face enhancement, you can enjoy high quality selfies, and these people are really attractive using a super.

Smart image signal, processor and advanced multi-frame processing. Remember the feature beauty face, and I can't remember if that was a Samsung feature or whatever, but s21 and every year, that's in there to some degree, the yeah and sometimes when we want to share a picture. It's true. It's just easier to use a camera. The skin smoothening needed we've been working closely with our partners to make the awesome visual experience from our galaxy devices available on their apps.

Now the AI solution on s21 and s21 plus gives you an incredible visual experience in most third-party camera apps, like Instagram and Snapchat. With these upgrades, the s21 series will help you take and post the best pictures possible, but of course, our social media feeds are more than portraits and selfies more and more often we're using videos to communicate and capture real-time reactions, moments that make us cry and make us laugh until we cry with the s21 series, you can capture every detail in cinematic quality without any extra effort, thanks to 8k video tick. Took makes me laugh like crying videos. These videos are so sharp. You no longer have to choose between taking a photo or video anymore with 8k video snap.

You can pull photos from your videos at 30. It looks like there's already details on the pricing eight hundred dollars. Yes, a thousand for these 21 plus stories on the baseline, which really makes sense- because I remember last year you know at a thousand dollars, and then you know touching on what we're talking about earlier. The plastic design, some of those step, downs and a lot of people pointed that at me, like. How are we a still paying more than a thousand dollars and b for something that isn't in? In essence, you know a lot of people would not consider that premium just hold the camera for up to 15 seconds, whether you do or not.

You know, that's. Everybody has a different opinion on that, but I think 800 makes more sense, but then what happens with the Fe edition? If they do that again? Where does that go, and you won't have to worry about which filter to use or whether you need to reshoot single tape, will give you a bunch of options to share right away, but sometimes you want to do more than point and shoot? You want to choose the right angles: focus on your subject and change your view as you film. So we thought about new ways. We could give you control over your camera, and we created a better video director's view. Now you can see preview thumbnails from all your camera lenses.

While you shoot that way, you can easily change. Oh, that's interesting, go wide close up all while filming you can make sure the video of your moment is just as epic as a moment itself. All of these amazing camera capabilities from portraits and selfies to single taken director's view are powered by the fastest chipset in a galaxy device. We've engineered our chipset to give you more speed, more energy efficiency and more possible. I have to say I'm just peeping on the Samsung unpacked tag on Twitter, and it's a lot of bts armies, of course, uh just tweeting 20 screenshots of the different members.

I mean they're sprinkled throughout this entire presentation like crazy. Furthermore, I know it's just significantly increased our Samsung knew what they were doing. Putting BTS in this reach absolutely operations per second, that means five nanometer process, graphics and AI faster than any other galaxy device. So, whether you're taking portraits, recording videos or starting the next viral trend on tick, took you'll have the power to capture extraordinary memories. We rely on our phones more than ever to get things done, so the security of our most sensitive information is more important than ever.

At the heart of our enhanced security system is a secure processor which is engineered to ensure that your data stays protected even against advanced hardware attacks for the s21 series. We work closely with both Qualcomm technologies and Samsung system, LSI business to develop a secure processor that meets our stringent security requirements. In addition, we brought a whole new layer of protection customized for this processor by adding a physical tamper-resistant security memory can't get over the tweets about BTS we've completely with a secure processor, secure memory and integrated software. This vault will safely store your device pin and password buy a metric. I will never see anything about anything because they decided to put one of the biggest fans.

Privacy features for the pictures and text files. You share yeah now you'll be able to again prompt Samsung for knowing how to build location, private yeah and if you have photos, videos or text files that you want to share with friends, but you don't really want them to keep, because if I were 14 I would definitely be begging my parents to buy me a 100 phone access whenever you please, because it's the BTS. It's naturally expired two days, so you can see well Samsung had a BTS version of the phone last year. Didn't they? I remember there being a BTS version, and it was like a purple. They did so they've got it.

They've got a deep relationship with BTS at this point will last all day, even in a 5g network. Two years ago we launched the world's first commercial 5g smartphone, and our leadership continues with hyper-fast 5g engineered. To give you the best network experience possible.5G will unlock faster and more connected experiences, giving more of what you love with less lag that high level connectivity makes the s21 series the perfect phone for everyday mobile gaming. As you know, we've been collaborating with Microsoft to bring you Xbox games on mobile via the cloud 5g makes it possible to take your favorite games with you, while keeping them fast smoothly. We continue to partner with unity to build the ultimate mobile gaming experience with unity.

We developed adaptive performance, giving you the games, you love without the battery drain or overheating you find on other devices. With this package and our new powerful processor, the graphics get better. The phone stays cooler and gameplay gets faster than on previous galaxy devices. Adaptive performance has been applied. Someone made a perfect point, even though the phones have 5g in the name.

It hasn't really been like pushed to this point where it's like and by the way 5g 5g 5g. I feel like it's just on there as a series. Well, everybody else is doing it. We should probably just add it ever made kind of interesting yeah. I think, having the 5g in the name makes it feel smart, modern or feel like now, even though the actual difference is probably pretty minimal, uh, but they're also kind of want to enjoy increasing the expectation of the consumer.

Now going forward, the consumer will expect their devices to be 5g supportive, even if that doesn't really result in anything tangible. At this point experience to the next level, it's ready to delight users with a refined design and empower them with enhanced customization. Our latest UI mixes style and function with its fluid design. You'll feel the difference right at your fingertips, comfort and efficiency. Were our top priorities.

Take a look. One thing they haven't mentioned that verge has written about in their post. That went live is that the fingerprint sensor has been upgraded to the new 3d sonic sensor, gen 2 chips by Qualcomm uh, and I believe, if memory serves uh, if my memory is correct, that's a larger sensor, and it's faster, I mean I would obviously it should be faster, but it's also larger, and it's one of my complaints of these devices is that they went for a fingerprint sensor that uh just man when it when compared to other devices, is just slow and not dependable. For me, I just don't like it, so I hope this improves that device can be a chore, simply connect select and the rest of your new device setup is easy. One UI three totally transforms the mobile experience across the galaxy devices.

One ui3 makes you smile, which is its not 7 36 in the morning? Oh, no does that matter it's time to go to the club. You know what, though I was thinking this morning as I was whatever dabbing on my makeup, like you know what it even handles. There are people who have been planning this for weeks and are probably very stressed right now, like yeah right, remember those people, and it's okay. If I have to you know it's okay, that I have to wake up for a seven o'clock. Well because at least we don't have to do this stuff in person I mean yeah, that's true! Yeah! Those of us home bodies have really enjoyed this remote coverage.

I totally agree get totally into your game kind of nice to roll right out of bed announcement. Why not tablet and computer way less stressful yeah think Samsung reminders with Microsoft and management, curious about that director's view mode in the camera. That's a that's a pretty cool feature to have like the ongoing stream of all the cameras into a single viewpoint who knows uh Anthony who is TD of today's uh. This coverage, maybe we'll, maybe we'll integrate the s21 into our productions going forward. Why do we need a full? You know size switcher, just kidding by the way, there's no way designed by you just a gen z.

Man they'll find a way yeah, but have you ever really now? You need a phone that can be your content creator on the go, and it would just so totally too often. It makes sense to do it in this sense. Make it easier for people eraser on one UI. Three, your phone will do the touching up for you here. Let me show you.

I just simply tap the people. I want to remove like to say this guy and this guy and then does it work on masks. Ai does the rest for me easy right from your photos to your gallery to the interface itself. One UI three brings joy to your every day, and you will be one of the first people to enjoy the full experience with the s21 series. S21 will be available, starting at 7.99 and s 21, plus starting at 9.99. Both bottles can be yours.

On January, 29th, s21 and s21 plus are breakthroughs in smartphone technology. They have an intelligent, refresh rate, four cutting edge camera lenses and performance powered by a secure processor. To keep you more connected to everything you care about, whether you choose s21 or s21, plus you're, guaranteed a device that will change the way you navigate our world, but they're, not the only revolutionary devices we're launching. That's not all right, tell us why we're going to spend okay. So what's uh, what do you think on price dude? Well, actually, the verge probably already tells this price, but yeah I haven't looked at it yet uh 13 1400 somewhere around there.

That's my guess. I haven't looked yet sorry correct I've already spoiled it for you, possibly all right so, and also those previous uh devices, the s21 and the s21 plus do not have the curved display, so they're. You know saving that, for, I believe for the ultra. So if you like, the curved display you're going to have to spring some extra dollars to get it, you obviously you can see. The camera bump is a deeper, is a steeper camera bump, which is pretty standard for the ultra series.

Uh, the ultra variant um. That bump is always super deep and that's just because they upgrade the camera system. I was gonna, say the optical system on that is a little more complex. Yes, yeah substantial for sure. How impressive was that? There's a lot to unpack here, as you just heard from YouTube? Yes, series turns everyday moments into extraordinary experiences and galaxy s.21 ultra takes it all up a notch. It's a smartphone built for people who want more freedom, more power and more ways to shape the world around them.

Our ultra line has become synonymous with the best of the best in the galaxy lineup. It's packed with our latest innovations, our most advanced technology and our most seamless user experience. We built s21 ultra with our most powerful processor amazing display and, of course, our incredible pro grade camera. So you never miss a single moment as a new dad, I'm always taking photos of my 20-month-old son. I want to capture every memory from his first steps to his first words, so I thought about investing in a DSLR, but with this phone I don't need to galaxy s.21 ultra combines industry leading hardware and software. Nobody has time for it.

Next generation, video experience so true, we built studio quality camera gear right into the devices, broadens the scope of what you can capture the 12 megapixel ultra-wide lens adds more detail to every picture. This makes me want to go on ramps. Ai. The brand-new dual tell lens system creates a breakthrough in quality. So soon our hardware and software teams work together to build a camera experience, unlike any other.

This is a true pro camera, and we're so excited to tell you more about it. We carry our smartphones all the time wherever we go, whether posing for a family portrait, capturing incredible landscape or even something unexpected. We naturally reach for our smartphones and in all of these moments we want to capture the best high quality photos and videos every time, but this can be difficult. Um, I'm reading through the price specs availability on Engadget the uh article that was written by and there's a mention of the Samsung space zoom feature which lets you get super up close um. I guess it was not very good in the last iteration uh and that they brought that back in the s21 ultra eight dual telephoto lens system, 108 megapixel three times obstacle zoom, while the other goes up to ten times optical zoom and the phone will automatically switch between them depending on the range you're shooting at okay in situations.

So the space zoom is a hundred times zoom, which yeah in the previous models. It was kind of interesting that it could, but it never resulted really in photos that you would really want to keep. I mean better than other devices, but that's not saying a lot, because it's still, you know super. You know difficult to see. What's going on, so I wonder if they, if this is like a combination of the two to get that far or if the improvements will create a better image at 100x.

There's also a feature called zoom provide a more challenging image which lets you keep your subject in the frame. Even if your hands shake the images produce noise that would be 4k, video at 60 frames per second technology. At the sensor stage, a set of nine pixels are combined into one larger pixel, increasing each pixel surface area for capturing light. This is what I mean. Whoever renders like these visuals for this kind of explanation.

They do it in a way that, like I'm, not actually learning anything, but I feel so taught for a powerful night mode. Experience like oh yeah, the pixels, yes to eliminate noise and blur, then countless reams of data collected by the sensor are processed by an internal ISP algorithm to identify and preserve the subject's, true shape and color tone. This is possible even in conditions of extreme darkness under 0.1 lux. The results are stunning in the case of backlighting, especially when the subject is in motion. Groundbreaking 12-bit HDR combines two simultaneously captured 10-bit frames into a single 12-bit output.

This process not only eliminates motion blur, but also produces dynamic range three times wider than that of 10-bit color. Extraordinary hardware sets the foundation to capture professional quality images in any situation, but hardware is only half the story: powerful software maximizes the strengths and benefits of our incredible hardware. Zoom photography is one area where this harmony of hardware and software turns your picture into a masterpiece. Let's say you are on a height, and you come across an amazing view, but you can actually get to the other side. What would you do? Would you give up? Well, you don't need to because our space zoom will take you there.

These are the kinds of requirements that inspire our technology. It is this tight integration of innovative hardware and powerful software that allows us to realize our vision and, honestly, you were talking about zoom, lock, that's actually a really useful feature when you zoom into 100x, it's almost impossible to keep the thing that you're zooming in on uh stable, because you're just so far pushed in and really at that point you are doing a digital zoom, so that makes sense that they would give you the ability to say that house is the thing that I want to stay focused on. Even if I'm shaking you've still got the full image, the software is doing the locking for you so optimized. I bet that'll be really useful, but fitting 10 times optical zoom into the slim body of a smartphone is not easy to make this possible. Two precise folds are incorporated into the lens.

I have to tell you it's minimized. Making me want to mirror direct light. I know for a lot of folks. It might seem very trivial, but you know this is a constant part of our job at one push of the shutter, I'm just very thankful for it right now. Even with all the buzzwords being spouted out, AI then evaluates and corrects thousands of fine details to produce detailed images, even at high magnification levels and when shooting at high magnifications zoom lock uses intelligent software to set the image you know I have to say I would really use this yesterday.

Uh, the goats are on the hill right now at my house, and it sounds like a song. I was trying to take pictures of them with the OnePlus 8, just the regular one plus eight and yeah, even zooming in it was just so optimized. It was too jagged for even an Instagram story. Yeah, no doubt you'd get better images with this um. Even if you were at 100x they'd be better than what you get out of uh an OnePlus.

You know device zooming all the way in, but would you end up with something that that is more than I guess all you were expecting was an Instagram post. So that's fine, but you know exactly if I can't share it on Instagram, then it's not doing the job. Quite frankly, yeah. It's obvious. S21 ultra captures incredible details.

All with just the press of the shutter galaxy s21 ultra's camera is for people who appreciate the best of the best it's for pro photographers and videographers for people who live for the details and for everyone who enjoys taking extraordinary pictures. S21 ultra has the most power we've ever built into a smartphone camera, giving you the freedom to shoot and edit your favorite moments to make them even more memorable you'll, be able to capture incredible 12-bit raw files in pro mode. This phone has three times more dynamic range than photos on the s20, I'm seeing, so you don't miss a single detail commentary about how this just feels like a Redux of last year's galaxy s20 event, and that this just feels more. Like a spec like a slight improvement over what was kind of 4k video, you know 60 frames wobbly and not every lens on your phone baked last year, wide ultra-wide lens alike, which makes sense. I mean it's, it's 20 21, where it's the beginning of the year.

This is very fast. It feels like just yesterday we're covering the galaxy s20 yeah yeah. Well, yeah, really, especially considering the fact that you know Samsung moved up this announcement at least a month and a half, if not close to two months earlier than they normally do it yep, um, so yeah, but I'm, but I'm curious to see how this will work with Samsung uh to have even more of the calendar year to sell their flagship. This definitely gives them more time before we get to what I suspect will be the uh, the middle to mid-end of the year announcement, which will be all about their experimental devices, the folds and all that kind of stuff smartphones to establish a whole new kind of cinema. Mobile filmmaking.

Our advanced smartphone cameras give artists the agility to shoot what they want and push boundaries of, what they can create, and we're excited to continue to grow the with galaxy community around the world, whether you're directing a film or taking photos of your family. The content you capture with s21 ultra will be incredible, and you'll be able to store it effortlessly thanks to Microsoft, OneDrive integration. If you start filming a masterpiece on your phone, you can upload it to OneDrive. I need to replenish my, and we designed it to look just as bold and iconic from its sleek frame to its stunning matte finish: it's a master stroke in design, and we created a striking color to match introducing phantom black when it comes to design black, isn't just a color, it's all colors in one. It's bold! Yet understated black is classic.

Is it style luxury elegance itself for designers? Black is the most difficult color to create. I love black. I love a black on black, but we've just seen so many black phones over the years, yeah, I'm just tired of black. It's that's. What I've been seeing all my life and there 's's been a lot of a lot of colorful phones coming out the last couple of years, perfect, exactly, exactly more options.

I've seen what you can do at every angle and reflection of light. In our quest we conducted countless tests. We examined molding the process to create color patterns, vapor deposition, the process to create the reflective layer. We even examine our employees work in a smoky lab to reach the color that encompasses all others. Furthermore, we found that less is more.

Furthermore, we needed to subtract, okay, removing the traditional processes. When you go up to the know, you have like all the red line going through, and you go. You just grab that one little piece of evidence- that's gonna, just bring this case to a close, it's right there. First, we built the film base with new materials, creating a black that absorbs almost all light. Then we worked to find the perfect haze formula.

We varied times of etching changed the thickness of the glass and even tested different mixtures and concentrations of the etching solution. Finally, we had a breakthrough. We discovered an optimal haze glass that preserves a deep, resonant black, okay, one that shows the colors. This better be really cool looking in person because they are really talking yeah, I know really is the galaxy s21 phantom black, strong and modern. We fashioned this singular black, not by adding more, but by using less I mean look, I'm sure looks really cool and sleek in person, unforgettable and unapologetic, but wow.

They just spent five minutes. Talking about the colors. Exactly I watched the whole like phantom black is our boldest color working director advanced, innovative phone we've ever had s21 ultra is an epic experience in and of itself that best-in-class experience continues with s21 ultra's display from shooting incredible videos to watching and sharing them. This display lets us do all the things we love the galaxy s.21 series boasts intelligent displays that save power and optimize your viewing experience and s21 ultra is our most intelligent display. Yet we found an organic structure that sets the groundwork of our AMOLED display, and we've applied this newly discovered material to s21.

Ultra with this innovation, we've managed to reduce power consumption in this device, even as we provide an improved viewing experience in high resolution. As you switch between videos or pause to check emails, your phone will automatically shift between 10 and 120 hertz to optimize your viewing experience. At the same time, our improved super smooth, scrolling experience and who plus resolution will keep up with you. You'll get all these capabilities and the brightest most vivid displays immediately. I want to see how this is going to affect the battery life.

Constantly monitoring you'll have our situation 25 brighter than galaxy s20 ultra with 50 percent. More contrast, and sometimes I wonder if having an even brighter display, is really the best thing for us is our most advanced. You mean on our eyes, so we made sure yeah part of your experience, we'll match it well, I know that when I'm outside in the bright center, I want my phone to be bright enough device compatible with the s pen for all the Galaxy Note users out there, but that you know that's probably more than just part of the adaptive it puts precision mobile experience, oh yeah, you can use it to write, draw and make more precise, edits, we're introducing two new independent s pens today the standard model now bigger with a more comfortable grip and the more advanced s pen pro okay, spend pro lets. You take advantage of all the great Bluetooth features: you've come to love like using air actions to snap a photo remotely control your music player or click through a presentation with just the s pen pro you'll be able to use all these amazing features across our latest s. Pen supported galaxy devices.

The s pen for s21 ultra will be available at launch, and the s pen pro will be available later this year. We're working with industry-leading pen companies to design s-pen and s-pen pro models that show off your style. S21 ultra is the only model in the s21 series compatible with the s pen, because s21 ultra is crafted to be extraordinary at every level, with unrivaled performance, design and capabilities. You can get your very own ultra device on January 29th for 11.99, and you'll be able to make it truly your own and choose among three gorgeous backplate colors that match the unique camera deck pattern. If you choose the s21 plus, you can pick between two stunning colors with a delicate rose gold.

Shell, a lot of folks, I think, are- are excited about the s-pen compatibility because it opens it up to whatever you personalize your fun devices, one-of-a-kind device and yeah. Still having that like talk to your device, that is specifically for the pro s pen and specifically for a particular subset of user, but otherwise my understanding is anybody can get an s pen now and draw on the screen at least the basic one, well yeah, and so that s pen support is only in the ultra, though right, like my understanding, unless I'm missing something you couldn't do the s pen with the s21 and the s21 plus, I don't think ultra will help you stay productive, we're gonna, embrace brand-new adventures in 2017 smartest display to cameras powered by a revolutionary sensor. I need our most powerful chip to our first. Ever s, pen compatibility on a galaxy s, device s21 ultra charts a new course yeah. So it sounds like the ultra is the only one that gets the s pen support.

The s21 series will change everything, so you can express yourself. However, you want and capture your world and our best ever quality, no matter which model you choose it's a revolution in smartphone technology, and it's a revelation in how we live our lives with galaxy devices. With your preferences and the planet in mind, we are closing sea turtles in there to show them that we're serious about sustainability, one device will come with an USB. How did they get a picture of my drawer full of cables? I don't know how they got that, how they and our at chipset we build technology that make your life so yeah easier. This release will not have the power button or that power takes your every day to the next level.

To tell you more, please welcome Kevin thanks for Rico here at Samsung, we offer one of the largest product ecosystems in the world, we're the makers of the world's best-selling, smartphones, TVs and award-winning home appliances, and we're proud that our connected network of technologies makes even your most ordinary experiences exceptional at CES. You heard about how the SmartThings ecosystem makes life at home. Seamless, SmartThings lets you do so much more than just turn things on and off.

You can truly take charge of your home to help you revolutionize all of your everyday experiences, we're looking beyond our own ecosystem, we're finding new ways to make the ordinary extraordinary and expanding our galaxy beyond just Samsung products. We partner with Google to give you a smart home ecosystem, unlike any other, by making Google Nest products compatible with smart things. We build smart things to be a powerful service that is out of your world to make everyday more convenient and efficient. Now you can change your temperature on your nest, thermostat or check your shoulder, hello, giving you the all from the SmartThings app on your galaxy phone. Well, I mean you could do that anyway, I mean it's just a few taps away and housed in one easy, app, so basically they're giving you the option to use the Samsung app SmartThings app instead of the Google home app.

That's my understanding all right, even when we're on the go more integrated into smart things, universe, smart things is aspect of Samsung that I am completely unaware of, like I just haven't spent much time at all with smart things, anything! But here's what's really frustrating is it's like time in our cars? It's not really more integrated. They just added some API by every major car manufacturer, and you can find it in nearly 100 million cars on the road. So in most cars you can connect whatever happened to that smart speaker that Samsung was thrown out. Oh yeah, we don't talk about that faster. Their smart speaker has become the thing that you just don't talk about, because I don't think it's ever coming.

Samsung and Google have worked closely together to improve the user experience in the car display. The smartphone, like visual experience, will feel more intuitive and familiar you'll. Enjoy a simple app ecosystem with access to your oh, so they made a smart thing: entertainment android, auto compatible. You can also talk to google to make calls and send messages safely, while keeping your anyway Samsung and Google have always. I mean.

Obviously, Samsung needs to google behind it to kind of market easy to manage business going um, and we know Hiroshi lockmaker and the other folks in the android team. They use the Samsung phones to really like test out what they're working on, because that is truthfully. The number one selling android phone we're on yeah. Indeed, it's hard to relax, but what's interesting, is how they're repackaging stuff that has existed already in a way, that's just a little more palatable for the Samsung users, which is what Samsung is good at, and so I give them credit for. Well, I drive home going after.

Does it work for me what they know, my Google Nest adjust my home yeah, and this that's actually pretty cool right, like embedded into android, auto you're driving even helps me take care of my car. If I'm running low on battery, I want to power it up. Build directly to the nearest charging stations, why would you know about that, because I still have a gas powered part and geofencing set in smart things. My phone will recognize when I'm getting close to home. Android auto will pop up on my dashboard to ask if I want to start the welcome home scene, so the lights will switch on and the garage door will load, but as soon as I get into the driveway, oh, I never thought about by the way putting lights like that in the garage.

That's a good idea and whose garage is that empty literally the entire garage is filled with just that smooth arrival and the relaxing night for you. This is in your phone, your home and your car, we're thrilled to think about where this technology will take us next. We continue to lead the way with services that make your daily activities. Seamless, with digital key you'll, be able to open the door of your house with your mobile device. This distal key gives you a trailblazing touchless experience you'll be able to unlock your car door with your phone.

The door will unlock when you reach it, no sooner what car you'll even be able to share your digital key across smartphones, regardless of brand or platform. So if I'm lending my car to a friend while I'm that sounds dubious, I don't know, I don't know how I will make my hand off seamless. I can send the key to my friend with just a few easy taps. Even if we're thousands of miles apart, we'll continue supporting wireless communication tech. You know well, including NFC, and we're excited to be at the forefront of ultra-wideband technology, we're working with industry consortia to lead the standardization of USB and digital key technology, making them more readily available, secure and shareable.

Our USB enabled digital key sends short pulses between your mobile device and your car. Then it makes super precise distance calculation in real time, unlocking your door when you reach it and with USB you can rely on AR finder to guide you directly to the car. This is called block a world of possibilities, uh vogue's wagon. Thank you Kevin for years. Our partnership with Google yeah it looks like Volkswagen was the first one to announce that it was going to be integrating the sensor back in October 2019 in the industry to better considering they own a bunch of car brands.

I imagine to the next level we are entering into a new and expanded partnership with Google from communication to connectivity. It will yield new innovations across the board, whether you're, behind the wheel or in your home office, look forward to exciting new mobile experiences for more about our new partnership. Please welcome my good friend Hiroshi lockmaker. What did I tell you? Hiroshi hi TM, thanks for your warm welcome, and I'm really excited to join unpack today, we're so grateful for the close partnership with Samsung and what we've been able to build together since the first galaxy s smartphone. Now it's been over a decade, and I think today's launch highlights a new era for Samsung and google.

The galaxy s21 is a major step forward as we've pushed the boundaries with Samsung in their world-class technology to create an amazing, cohesive product experience. Not only are we bringing our innovations closer together on the phone, we also recognize it's a multi-device world, so we are building beyond the phone together, as TM mentioned earlier. Staying connected with friends and family is a top priority for many of us. Google Duo and messages are great examples of how we've worked with Samsung. To make these apps more helpful and easy to use on messages.

We have completed the global rollout of RCS on android. For those of you not familiar with RCS, it's the next generation of texting that replaces SMS. You can enjoy it, so I have to choose like chat really curious to know. Does this mean that Samsung messages sharing their own messaging devices as the default? Is the android messenger, developing the uh google messages or android, whatever the heck they're calling it now? Uh is google's messages app by default which, but to make computing accessible to everyone. We've collaborated with Samsung to develop a new version of talk back, a Google screen reader available first on galaxy.

This can really help shape the future of how everyone interacts with their phones. We are in a multi-device world, the smartphone is just one of many screens. You interact with throughout the day, as you saw earlier, with android auto Google Nest and SmartThings we're investing deeply with Samsung to ensure our collaborations extend across devices beyond the phone. I will say this later: android 11 release gives you more control over sense, because I think Samsung was saying that they were. They were losing out some favor to the Google home ecosystem, and so I imagine that's why they were like look.

You can push a button on android, auto. Look, you can do this integration hardware and software requirements. I truly wonder I wish I could be a fly on the wall in these meetings. Incredibly Hiroshi and Samsung, I'm inspired by what we'll be able to build together by bringing the magic of the Google ecosystem and Samsung's amazing technology together to innovate and to create helpful experiences for you, our customers in 2021 and beyond. We are taking our partnership to the next level, and I am incredibly excited about this new era kudos to the Samsung team, and thanks again for inviting us back to you.

Than. Thank you, my friend of the network, we've shown you what Samsung is all about. True innovation that opens up a world of untapped imagination, a universe of experiences that defy all expectations, so that you have the freedom and the tools to be yourself and to express yourself, of course, the power to imagine new products. There you go, you got your hands in hand with the power to imagine a better world. We have always been.

I saw one mask earlier as an instrument for good to doing the right thing for the betterment of the world. That commitment led us to partner with the UNDP and help promote the global goals on more than 80 million smartphones. Just a few months ago, we announced our expansion of this partnership with the generation 17. This program highlights the amazing work of our young leaders like Maximo, who is addressing climate change in Argentina and show me who is raising health and hygiene awareness around the world generation.17 is about elevating the voice-over generation, unlocking their powerful purpose and taking action together. Young people are coming over age during a global pandemic and their optimism, determination and resilience is more important than it's ever been.

We are honored and humbled to help them reach their goal. We all have the power to affect change. It only takes imagination and a sense of purpose. I hope you will join us on this mission on behalf of everyone at Samsung. Thank you again for watching unpacked today stay safe out there, and we look forward to a long event again for a virtual event.

Yeah, a little, I mean the last 15 minutes. You know was less about product announcement more about uh initiatives and uh and stuff going on behind the scenes. It's what they would have done at MWC. They would have had this big keynote. It would have.

You know. Had that cube, I'm sure some integration of that. Somehow, oh boy, they have a whole scroll of coin 19 measures all righty. Well, we already know South Korea has done a lot better with commitment, yeah right right right. It's fine, so samsung has announced uh today the s21 5g, the s21 plus 5g 799 and 999, respectively, both releasing on January 29th, uh, the s21 a little smaller.

Obviously, the base model 6.2 inches full HD, plus AMOLED display four colors and then the s21 plus 6.7 inches. So a little larger of a device again full HD, plus AMOLED display three colors they've got adapted display on both uh no curve. So if you don't like the curve, uh you're going to be happy with these uh. The ram does ratchet down to eight gigs uh, which you know, I think, is a cost savings measure, because these phones do cost less than last year's kind of equivalent uh flagships that Samsung announced and people thought they were just a little too expensive last year, and so they were able to bring it down a couple of hundred dollars. This time, which I think was a pretty solid, moves on Samsung's part uh.

You know when paying attention to you know the state of the world right now and uh people are looking to save some money um. So I know uh. I think that's a good entrance and Samsung creates great devices, so I'd be curious to see those yeah. I don't know something about this particular presentation made me feel like I don't know what it is the last couple of years I was really gunshot on the pixel, and then I took on the OnePlus, and now I'm realizing that a lot of the other manufacturers are catching up in some of the features that I want. Uh Samsung just touted a second ago, all the Google integration that it has, which it does it's an android phone but right, but I think they're pushing for a little more just to become more, I don't know, become more android, which is a good thing.

It's always a good thing, yeah indeed uh, so we've got those starting uh models, and then we've got the the premium of the premiums, the s21 ultra. That starts at 11.99, which actually is kind of a little lower than I think I expected uh, which is not to say that it's inexpensive, it's just crazy, expensive. Well, that's true. Good point, good point. I don't know that we have a price on the s.

I haven't. Furthermore, I pen it's forty dollars for the regular and then seventy dollars for the oh. No I'm sorry. There are two different styles of Samsung case. This comes from CNET two different styles of Samsung cases you can buy, which include an s pen.

They cost 70 each, or you can buy the s pen for 25 singularly or the s pen pro for 40. , okay, so the okay, so 40 bucks we're looking at it right now on the Samsung store, and it sounds like that price. What's that factor in that cost, if you're looking yeah, yeah extra, if you want it well and the good news there is that you could buy the ultra and then decide eventually, oh yeah, you know what I really do want the s pen uh, so you could uh spring for that. When you know you need it, but um a larger 6.8 inch, quad, HD plus display. So you get that, like top of the line display, 120 hertz adaptive refresh so all the way down to 10 hertz to 120 hertz, depending on what it did it deems you're doing whether it's necessary to have that high refresh or not uh.

Like we mentioned s, pen support improved camera system, actually really interested in seeing the space zoom. Even though I doubt that it's like very usable uh, but if Is mean, I have to imagine the first time that Samsung announced the space zoom this 100x zoom um. I had a feeling that this was going to be one of those things that every single time they release a new phone, they're iterating, making it better and better, and maybe somewhere two three four years down the line, they're producing images with that you're, like god, I really can't believe that that's 100x, and I think it looks like they're getting there they're they're working on the camera system to kind of improve it. How unnecessary it is that that remains to be seen. I feel like still but uh, still uh, really throwing their weight into the ultra series.

As being the camera, uh beast, you know device yeah. Absolutely I think camera beast is the best way to say it, especially with the name like you know, the being denoted, the ultra of the series um, the zoom thing, it's that trend started a couple of years ago overseas, and so I think this is just the fruits of that labor and I think you're right that we'll see better and better zoom coming in the years to come. I don't you know I for me, it's a very one-off once in a while thing that I need how often do you, but it certainly gives the manufacturer bragging rights to be able to do that. I remember when yeah I remember when Mateo brought in a couple of uh, I think they were Xiaomi or Oppo phones. Furthermore, I can't quite remember, but he had to use banana for scale, and I was very, I was very impressed at the zoom abilities and how they were able to sort of like to keep the picture smooth.

So I would like to with the periscope zoom functionality. I would like to see that from Samsung, because considering how much the ultra I mean 1300 starting price yeah. Well, it sounds like they're doing something kind of similar to that. I don't know if it's a true periscope um functionality, comparatively speaking, but you know they were talking about the double folded lens for that long distance, zoom they've got the 3x telephoto and the 10x telephoto on board in the camera system, so they're doing something similar to what you're talking about and if even is the 100x isn't impressive in and of itself like create pictures that you want to hang up on your wall, I have to imagine that yeah that might not matter very much, but what about like? A 20x zoom you know like if 10x is the optical, and then you get a little of extra out of the 20x. What did like? What does that image? Actually look like that could be very usable and 20x is a lot of reach for a smartphone, so yep um, we shouldn't forget the Galaxy Buds pro announced at the top of the hour.

That was uh 200 lots of new little iterations there as well. Accessories will work with the same accessories as the Galaxy Buds live uh. This automatic noise cancellation, if you want to use a Samsung equivalent of a tile and sort of I was really again. I say this. I thought it was very smart that they brought up the Samsung phones being sort of the homing beacon for these smart tags.

Because again, this is like the number one android phone that most android users have, so it would make sense to tap into that existing market of devices. I am very curious to know exactly how it works, though I want to know the ins and outs of the smart TV, yeah yeah, the smart tags, I'm curious to see how uh dependable uh, you know the ultra-wide band technology, how that integrates in and actually makes it usable thirty dollars for one. I think you just mentioned forty dollars for a pair, and you know the idea is that you attach this to something that you don't want to lose. They use the example of putting it on your dog's collar. Then your ROG gets out, and you can find your dog.

So a lot of uses uh for something like this um and yeah. I'd be curious to see. I know apple has their own tile um approach, which is ultra-wide band as well, if I'm not mistaken uh. So this is a thing that uh you know: Samsung wants to compete on and then, as far as the buds pro we're concerned, some of those extra features noise reduction, gain writing. So writing the gain when you're speaking, it actually has some AI detection in there to know right now, you're, listening to music! Oh, you just started speaking, so we'll lower the volume and do pass-through, and I thought that sounded really: nice um, ipx7 water resistance, three colors and, like you mentioned 200 January 15th, and also a better seal.

So it's a little rubber tip that actually extends into the ear canal. To give you a little better of a seal with a vent, so it isn't totally like suction in its approach, so um a couple of more little details on the s-pen just by way of CNET uh. Let's see lacks Bluetooth support, which means you won't have that gesture feature. That's a lot that allows you to control, slideshows or skip songs. Another downside, without the lack of bluet with without Bluetooth, is that you won't have alerts.

If you leave the s pen behind and being that, you have to have a case to have it docked, um right, maybe time for you to invest in a pencil pouch. So, okay and- and it sounds like what you're talking about- is the baseline s pen, the 40 one, because I know the s9 pro they mentioned would come out sometime later, they don't have an announcement. They don't have a date for that yet, but that'll have some of those wireless capabilities so for 40 you're, getting a less capable s, pen, obviously, but um losing out on the neat features like using the button to take a picture when your camera is mounted over there. That's actually a really great use case for the s pen, so you'll have to ask yourself: do you want those extra features? The air gestures totally unnecessary, like I, I had to ask myself every single time like. Why do I even need to do this right now like it's? I don't need it.

The remote shooting feels I think, you're getting a thicker pen. If you get for the bigger s, pen, yeah and so the remote shooting feels to me, I mean look, you can get a three dollar dongle on Amazon that'll. Let you do remote shooting you know what I mean. So it's its a nice to have, but right, no not totally necessary. It's not the only way.
