iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12 Full Comparison! Worth the Upgrade?

What's going on guys, my name is wade with tech daily and in this video we're going to be comparing last year's iPhone 11 to the new iPhone 12. Now, unlike in years past, like say with the iPhone 10r to the iPhone 11, for example, this jump up to the iPhone 12 actually brings some significant and worthwhile changes that I think make the iPhone 12 well worth getting. So I'm gonna talk about all the stuff, that's new and better on this iPhone 12 versus the iPhone 11. I'll also mention some of the stuff that maybe isn't really worth considering and hopefully by the end. This will help you decide if jumping up to the iPhone 12 is the right move for you now. First off, I do want to mention the pricing structure and availability with both of these phones.

Actually last year when it launched the iPhone 11 started at 6.99 this year, the new iPhone 12 actually starts at 100, more 799, and if you buy the unlocked version of this phone, you'll need to add on an additional 30 dollars more so 8.29 now for a new unlocked, iPhone 12. That's certainly quite the price jump over last year and I think definitely something you should be thinking about and by the way, if you don't have either of these phones, maybe you have an iPhone 10r or something even older. Last year's iPhone 11 actually got a price cut. You can still get this phone new from apple, but now for just 5.99. So a lot of things to consider here with the prices I feel like.

Maybe I made it more confusing than I should have, but if you want to do some comparison, shopping of your own or maybe pick out some good deals, I'll leave some links down below in the video description to where you can get these phones at their cheapest current prices physically at least at first glance. The iPhone 12 doesn't really look that different from the iPhone 11 and that should come as no surprise. It's an iPhone after all, but you will see some minor tweaks that not only differentiate this new device from last year's model, but that I think do a little more in making this phone feel a little nicer size, wise. The iPhone, 11 and iPhone 12 are both technically 6.1 inch devices, that's their screen size, but the body and the housing on the new iPhone 12 has been redesigned. This new device gets a sleeker flatter form factor, and with this it does shed some of that bulk.

The rounded edges are no more, and in addition to that, the bezels that frame the display seem to be just a little slimmer as well. Up top, the notch is still there, which houses all the touch ID sensors and front-facing camera. So that has not changed, but when you do set up these phones side-by-side and if you have the chance to hold them in your hand too, the difference actually is more noticeable than you might think. The new iPhone 12 does feel slimmer and sleeker. It's subtle, but noticeable.

It's also quite a bit of lighter as well and all in all. I think the redesign does make this phone look a little more modern and a tiny bit more premium. All in all, it's not a huge difference, but it is something worth noting the material and build with both phones also remains the same. It's an all glass back with an aluminum frame and there's the same frosted glass accent for the camera module as well with the dual lens setup, looking nearly identical on both phones. What you won't see, though, is a new magnetic sort of ring or circle under the back glass of the iPhone 12, and this is designed to work with all those new MagSafe accessories apple has been advertising pretty heavily.

So if you're into that, that's one more reason to maybe consider the iPhone 12, though, actually something like the new MagSafe QI. Charger will still work with the iPhone 11, since it is just a charger. After all, most everything else with the two devices physically is about what you'd expect on the left side. Of course, you'll find the volume buttons and mute switch, though towards the bottom. On this side, the iPhone 12 has its sim card tray on the right.

Both of the phones, of course, have the power button, but on the iPhone 11, this is where it sim card tray is also, and you'll see on the iPhone 12. It has this sort of plastic looking slit, this isn't a button or a sensor or anything like that. It's actually just a 5g antenna and only the US models of this phone have that down below there's the same lightning port on both phones and the speaker and microphone setup, though the iPhone 12 has a few less holes down there. Both phones do, of course, have a stereo speaker setup with the secondary speaker in the earpiece up there, along with all those face ID sensors I already mentioned, and around back once again just a similar physical camera setup, which I will go more in depth with in just a second before we get into the important stuff. Just two more quick things to note.

The dual stereo speaker setup on both phones to me sounds pretty much the same and here's a quick sample. So you can get an idea and face ID also is about the same speed on both phones with this side-by-side test. It sort of just depends on which phone I'm looking at at the moment, as far as which unlocks first but locking the device, for whatever reason is actually way faster on the iPhone 12, but with just recognizing your face and unlocking and getting into the phone that seems to be about the same on both devices. Okay. So, let's now get into the important stuff.

If there's, but one reason to consider getting this new iPhone 12 over the iPhone 11, it's probably the display. It's no secret that, starting with the iPhone 10r and extending to the iPhone 11 apple, gave its sort of cheaper iPhone option a less than ideal screen. It was LCD at a sub 1080p resolution and really was probably the most controversial thing about those phones. This time around, though, with the new iPhone 12 apple gave this device. The super retina Dr OLED display with HDR 10 support, and they bumped the resolution up to 2532 by 1170 at 460 pixels per inch compared to the lcd on the iPhone 11, which offers just 1792 by 828 resolution.

I think the difference is pretty drastic. The iPhone 12 looks bolder and more colorful blacks are much deeper, colors are punchier and the display itself seems quite a bit brighter too. I was mostly fine with the iPhone 11 screen last year. I was used to it coming from the 10r from the year before, but using the iPhone 12. Now, I'm reminded just how much better an OLED screen really is and with a higher resolution it's much sharper too.

In my opinion, you can see a difference in detail. The OLED display is one of the things that separated the regular iPhone 11 from the iPhone 11 pros last year, but this year the regular iPhone 12 gets the same. OLED displays as the pro phones, and that, in my opinion, is one of the biggest reasons why you should consider this device, whether you're upgrading from the iPhone 11 or something else entirely, and, to be honest, it's probably one big reason why jumping to the iPhone 12 pros this year might not really be as worth it. Also, the front glass on the new iPhone 12 gets an upgrade too apple calls this their ceramic shield. It's a tougher coating meant to help keep the iPhone 12 crack free in the event of a drop.

So in theory, this new phone should be a little tougher, though obviously it's still glass, after all, no matter what apple coats it in or calls it so with a particularly tough or unlucky fall, it may still shatter. Unfortunately, the other big upgrade. I think most people will notice and probably appreciate with the new iPhone 12 is with the cameras now hardware wise, there's actually not much to mention here. Both the iPhone 11 and new iPhone 12 offer a dual lens rear setup with a main shooter and an ultra-wide lens and the actual camera specs aren't really that different. In fact, even in the camera app, you might not actually notice any changes at all, at least at first, but when you start shooting with the iPhone 12, I think you'll almost immediately realize just how much better and more capable this phone is in every condition and now, with every lens, the new iPhone 12 can utilize the ultra-wide lens with night mode and with deep fusion something the iPhone 11 couldn't do.

The selfie camera can even use night mode and deep fusion again features not offered on the iPhone 11 and the everyday picture results in general. I think show a little of a difference too, but really it's going to be those low light and nighttime shots that are the biggest upgrade on the iPhone 12. And for video. The new iPhone 12 can, of course, utilize Dolby Vision, HDR, something maybe professionals might be keen on utilizing to really get the most shooting on this new phone. Now I am going to have a dedicated camera comparison to go more in depth with these two phones in a separate video, but just know that with the iPhone 12, you really have quite a bit more potential with pictures and video for just about every scene or subject, and I do think being able to utilize.

Basically, every combination of lens and shooting mode together now opens up a ton of possibilities that just aren't offered with the iPhone 11. Performance wise. Of course, this new iPhone 12 gets apple's latest upgraded chipset. The new a14 bionic, which is a step-up from last year's a13 bionic found in the iPhone 11. , though ram wise.

We are still working with just four gigabytes on both phones, so no change there and to be totally honest with at least the stock apps for sure the difference in performance and load times, I think, is almost non-existent between these two phones. The latest version of iOS is well optimized, of course, so with average day-to-day stuff, I don't really think you're going to see the iPhone 12 yield too much of a performance boost when we jump over to some third-party apps like YouTube. For example, there is a bit more of a difference, maybe a fraction of a second in load times when switching between videos, so the difference is at least there, and I think it's probably most noticeable, of course, when launching and loading more graphics heavy stuff like games. Now, you can probably tell, though, that while yes, the iPhone 12 might be a second or two faster in some instances. The difference really isn't that big, even as we do start to load up more and more things, and nowadays, I just don't really think this should come as a surprise.

Honestly, any iPhone launched within the last two or three years is going to perform about the same since apple continues to optimize iOS to run well on even their older devices. So performance, I don't think, is as big of a deciding factor anymore in considering a new iPhone, but I at least wanted to just show you a few quick, real world examples here with that, since the difference is kind of still there. After all, it's just probably not going to be that noticeable unless you're coming from like a much older device. Now, interestingly enough one thing that might actually be a downgrade with the iPhone 12 is the battery life-size wise. The iPhone 11 had a 310 William battery inside and the new iPhone 12 gets a bump down to 2815 Williams.

That's not a huge difference in size, but over the last week, with some real world use. I've actually found myself getting about an hour more out of my iPhone 11 over the new iPhone 12, and that kind of surprised me, interestingly enough, this trend seems to extend even to the iPhone 12 pros as well. Last year's iPhone 11 Pro and pro max seemed to just offer better battery life. The battery life differences is something that apple notes on their website. The iPhone 12s aren't necessarily supposed to have any better battery life.

This time around, which I think is honestly a bit of a miss here. That is usually something apple, improves on and talks about in their keynotes, but it just isn't the case this year. So if battery life is a huge concern for you, you might notice the iPhone 12 to be a little lacking one. Other thing that's lacking on the iPhone 12 is included accessories with the iPhone 11. You've got earbuds a charging, brick and lightning cable, all included in the box, and this time with the iPhone 12 you get just a lightning to USB cable.

It's not all that helpful for a lot of people, but at this point apple figures you may have enough AirPods and charging bricks lying around your house already that you likely don't need anymore. Finally, the new iPhone 12 is also the first iPhone with 5g network support. Now I'm talking about this last because to be honest, 5g for me- has been almost non-existent and depending on where you're located and what network you're on you may or may not be able to utilize. The newer, faster 5g networks, either for me with ATT 5g, just isn't widely available where I'm at and no 18t's fake, 5ge thing isn't the new 5g I'm talking about. For example, Verizon customers with 5g ultra-wideband might be able to utilize that newer, faster 5g speeds, but for a lot of folks who don't live in big cities where the carriers are investing in 5g or if you don't have a plan that allows for 5g, you may never get to utilize it so, for a vast majority of people, I'd say: don't consider 5g on the iPhone 12 right now.

Chances are, unless you know it's in your area, and you know you're going to get it with your carrier. It's likely just not something to be considering right now. So, to sum up, the big new features on the iPhone 12: it's really the display the camera capabilities and I guess the slight redesign. Those things are, what makes this phone worth getting over the iPhone 11. Now.

At the same time, I do still think the iPhone 11 is a great device. It's even better now with a price drop, but the iPhone 12 is much closer to the pro iPhones this year than ever before, and I consider it to be the iPhone to buy in 2020 for most people. It's definitely worth the upgrade if you're considering a new device and have something older. So there you go. That's everything you need to know about the new iPhone 12 versus last year's iPhone 11.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the upgrade?
