Asus ROG 5 "Real Review" By Flossy Carter

Yo, what's up everybody, it's your boy floss back again with another video, and today we're going to take a look at the ASUS ROG 5. Now you can pick this one up online I'll, throw the link-up in the description the cheapest I found it for is 589 bucks. I repeat, 589 bucks! Now this one I got right here. I bought it one bay. I wanted overnight shipping, so I spent 800 bucks. But if you're willing to wait, you can get this beast for under 600 bucks.

Now I said this before I have to say it again at under 600 bucks. This might be the deal of the year now. I know what some of you all going to say. Oh, I'm not really into gaming. Phones forget about gaming, if you're a social media, savage and what I mean by that is, if you're sitting around on YouTube all day, watching videos on Amazon prop Netflix, Hulu, tie, TOK, Facebook Instagram.

If you consume media all day long you're going to love this phone. I got a lot to say about this one all right. So let's go through the specs. Now this is available in two different colors. You got storm white and phantom black for the display.

You got a 6.78 inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 by 2448 that is 395 for the PPI patrol. Furthermore, you got gorilla glass victims on the front. That's the strongest gorilla glass out. You got gorilla glass 3 on the back. You got an aluminum frame.

Furthermore, you got HDR 10, plus up to 1200 nits peak brightness and a 144 hertz refresh rate with 300 hertz touch sampling, we're going to talk about that, for the processor got the Qualcomm snapdragon 888 with arena 660 GPU. Now what does that mean in English flagship, specs, bro flagship specs? Now you got 8 12 or 16 gigs of ram 128 or 256 gigs of storage, no micro SD card slot for expandable memory, but you can connect an external hard drive. Now it's running android 11 with the ROG UI skin. On top now you've got a six thousand William battery. That's divided into two three thousand William batteries that charge simultaneously.

That features 65 watt fast charging now ASUS claims. You could charge your phone from zero to seventy percent in 30 minutes at zero to a hundred percent in 52 minutes. Now you got dual stereo speakers that feature DTS, and you got a quad deck all right. A high five quad decks you all. Remember those sick for the cameras on the rear.

You got a triple setup. You got a 64 megapixel wide angle, a 13 megapixel ultra-wide and a 5 megapixel macro lens on the front. Furthermore, you got a 24, megapixel wide angle lens, and you can shoot up to 8k video. Now you also got Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6 NFC, always on display face unlock fingerprint sensor. You got the air triggers touch capacitive, you got aero active, you got 101 different gestures, you got a headphone jack and one of my favorite features the RGB light on the back.

Now the RGB light on the back is so sick. It's not just a light. It actually works. So, what's mission for my flagship checklist, there's no quad HD display. I can live with that, no wireless charge.

It is what it is. No IP rating all right. Most gaming phones, don't have that. Uh no IR blaster and no thought protection. Okay, all of that for under 600 bucks.

This is insane now before I unbox this. I have to shout out four people all right. Let me give a special shout out to Quentin summer David, Linda Seymour, Paul Anderson and john Giddings. Now, let me say this: it's been a while, since I got a phone and I unboxed it and the experience had me so hyped, maybe the galaxy fold, the Xiaomi mi 11 out of me, 10 ultra. Those were the last two phones that really had me hyped. The galaxy s21 ultra, that's another galaxy. I mean it wasn't really too much hype, but this phone right here all right now I had no intentions of buying this phone. I'm just rambling right now, but I know it comes in two other models.

You got the pro model, and you got the ultimate model. I had no intentions of buying those phones. Somebody asked me to specifically buy this one, so I said you know what let me get it because it does match. It does match my g14. So I said you know what I will get it and try it out when I unbox this phone.

The experience that I had it's going to blow you away all right. It's going to blow you away. Let me grab a little unboxing knife. I know I got to set this up for you all. Here we go now.

First the presentation. This is important. Now, if you ever bought ASUS products, you already know kind of computers kind of Gama. You know has that whole kind of nerdy vibe to it lights and switches are everywhere, but watch this when you open this up now, I'm not going to show you all that in this video, because I don't want to ruin it for you and I hope other reviewers didn't show you out, but when you take the phone, and you use the AR camera, and you scan these pictures, these pictures come to life. If you buy this phone, you need to experience that yourself.

I don't want to ruin it for you and show it to you. You need to experience it yourself, all right when I first did it. I was like whoa, and this is before I even took the phone out of the box. I mean before um before I even really started playing with the phone because they make you do that in the setup. So soon I turned the phone on, and I just scanned these pictures.

They popped out at you, and it turns into a full game. It is insane okay, so inside for those who dare okay, let's see what you get now. This is going to be your usual books and plug them in follow them. You got your ASUS ROG troll stickers. I might drop some of these on my g14 and, of course you got your sim ejection tool, fancy looking all right.

That's one of the things about gaming phones. Either you love them or you hate them, because everything has that different kind of look to it right. You know a regular sim, ejection tool just a little circle, a little this guy everything got to be gamer all right, gay, Marie! That's my new word of the day. You do get a case. Let's take a look at this okay, that shoes is back.

Okay, Noah racing video in this case, but even the case again, here's that word gamer. The case is kind of garish. You know everything is you know this funky looking, I choose to inspect that for quality. Now, of course, since I got a white g14, I had to go with the storm white color. Now the rest of this unboxing experience is going to be new for me.

I just took out the phone to use it. Let's see what else you get okay, I have to clear my throat again Samsung Apple charger in the box, 65 watt fast charging, brick included in the box with the ASUS branding on it real dope. Let's see what else you get now. This is something that I actually love. These cables that have this kind of braided feel to it tangle, free status, USB type-c to USB type c.

Okay, anything else in here. Let's see nope, that's pretty much it again. When you get the phone, don't just throw the box in the garbage, make sure you scan these pictures and get your mind blown all right. I'm not going to ruin it for you all and does it live on camera? Okay, let's take this off got one more stick on the back hold up, and here it is bung ASUS ROG five, now I'm going to be real with you all, I'm not a gamer at all, especially a phone gamer. I like the game on a PlayStation 5 like a real man.

I not that punk ass Xbox gaming on the phone is not really my thing, but when I first took this phone out of the box, you know what is my thing: big, heavy phones now this phone. This is a heavy phone. So if you're looking for the thinnest lightest phone on the market hit like on this video and keep it pushing all right, you know you're, not going to want this one. This is a brick. But for me, I like that- and I like that.

I like these big heavy manly feeling phones on the back. Okay. Let me hit the power button because it's time to get it in there's about one thing: that's dope too! Also, I'm gonna talk about everything, but on the top, if you notice the camera is separate from the display. So it's not a punch, hole camera full screen display with the camera above it now a lot of phones. You could kind of do that, but um, I'm glad that they kind of just did it without even giving you the choice, because now, when you have the choice, you might just leave it on.

I know that makes sense. Okay. Here we go look at the boot of animation. Let me get a little wipe down. Okay, your ASUS boot up animation.

That's me back here smiling, I love this phone bro. I love this phone. Okay swipe up. Am I hard to decipher code, the back of the phone bro hold on a second. Do you see that are you all? Looking at what I'm looking at.

Do you see that RGB light on the back bro? How sick is that light? Now, I'm going to show you the light is not just RGB lights that flash it's fully customizable when you plug in your phone to charge it the light turns you know from uh orange red green to let you know that it's fully charged. You see right now. I got it. You know I'm saying this flashing. It looks sick now, like I said, if you really about the flex life, if you got an ASUS g14, look how this is gonna.

Look now when you go to Starbucks, everybody's going to have their MacBook and their iPhone on the table. You come out with this nobody's going to know what it is, but they're going to want to know what it is they're going to be like. I don't really know what that is, but look at the combo. You see the triangles. This is kind of sick all right.

This is kind of sick back of the phone. Now here's the thing that a lot of people don't like about gaming phones, the camera setup, is always this old-school kind of style all right. It's always a vertical camera setup. It always just looks old-school. You know most new, modern phones on the back.

You got these cameras in the square. Furthermore, you know what I'm saying that kind of lets people know what year your phone is by the way your camera looks. But who cares about that when you got that RGB light flashing, which I'm going to have to dim the lights, all right I'll, do it in a minute, I'm going to have to dim the lights, because you all need to see this in full glory. This is sick all right. So let me pause the video.

Oh, did you see that just now? I don't know if you all seen that do you see that face unlock now, 2021 is really the year of the phone, because I just did a lot of phones this week, and it seems like I keep saying the same thing over and over. Oh, this is the best face unlock. I use let, yet this is the best face unlock I used yet this might be the best face unlock that I really use. Yet I set this up kind of in a funny environment and no matter what it just opens up so fast. Then again, maybe the Xiaomi might be a little faster.

Who knows now? Look when I said this might be the gaming phone of the year, especially at this price range. I didn't get the black shark yet alright, so we're definitely getting the Xiaomi black shark four, but still I think this one is going to be better because of this, that the Rev okay, let me calm down flawless calm down, I'm going to pause the video I'll set everything up, I'll, dim the lights, so you all can check out this ribs, and we'll keep it pushing talk amongst yourselves, all right josh. So we back in now I turned all the lights off. I'm sitting back in complete darkness check this out. Look at that now.

I'm going to hit the power button. All right, I'm on my lock screen! Look at the back! How sick is this? Now I'm going to grab a charger, I'm trying to do this in the dark, I'm going to plug it in you notice it turned orange! Now, let's see that means I got about 70 battery. That's why the light is orange, but when it's fully charged to 100, this would be green. So if I'm just sitting around somewhere with my phone on the table in complete darkness with a big nerd watch like this. Alright, look at this now look at the Nubia watch in complete darkness.

This is kind of sick, too. Look at the kg on the table pick it up. Let's take it off the charger and I got it set to this kind of red flash like this. How dope is this now? I'm going to go ahead and unlock it. Okay, here's the display in the dark, but why it's on the back is still glistening.

Now this is some high-tech nerd type, but I love it. I love it. Look at this. Nerds unite all right, nerds unite! Let me turn the lights back on all right. So first things.

First, let's talk about the build quality. Now this is one of those times. I have to say it and I mean it. It feels so good in the hands. Ladies, you know the procedures now, usually I say, build quality a1 would be an understatement if you like big heavy premium, feeling phones, this is a tyrannosaurus Rex.

All right. This is a straight animal. This is a dinosaur right here. I love this you're gonna love this heavyweight. Now, look! It's not water resistant, and usually gaming phones aren't because they need that ventilation.

They usually got fans and all that no water resistance, all right, you're gonna, have to deal with that, but the feel of this phone in your hand all right. This phone feels like you spent a thousand bucks. You know. Sometimes you want the thinnest and lightest phone, but sometimes you want to have some weight. I can't stress this enough.

I love the build quality on this gorilla glass 3 on the back Invictus on the front, I know about Vitus gorilla, glass 6. , that's the strongest one out aluminum frame in black matte finish, so there's really no fingerprints on this phone. Okay, not to mention again the RGB light. Next, let's go around the phone on one side: you got your power button. You got volume up and down these are now.

If you see they got a little texture to feel to them. These are the air triggers, so they touch capacitive. Now, why is that important? A lot of gaming phones have physical buttons. I don't like that. I prefer touch capacitive buttons because say you're, not a gamer, and you just want to be a social media scoundrel with a big phone like this.

You don't need you're, never going to use the uh triggers so why? Why have buttons? If you didn't, if you didn't know these, was there all right? If you didn't know these were triggers, you would never know all right. If nobody told you wouldn't even know, you would just think it's a pattern, and I like that all right, because, if you're not going to use them, why feel them? Okay, on the other side check this out now you got a little flap right here now. This does come off, and you're going to lose it, but shout out to ASUS because they give you another one in the box, because you're going to lose this, but you got another USB type-c charging slot. Now this is one if you buy the uh pro version or the ultimate. It does come with the external fan, which you're going to need all right.

What you're gonna need now. Let me talk about that real, quick all right now. I don't want to make this out to be like a love fest. You know what I'm saying, because, even though I do love this phone there's a few things that I don't like, I there's no wireless charge, I would really have loved that and one of them I would say my main gripe with this phone is it does get mad hot, and I'm not even a gamer, I'm not even a gamer, but just using the phone all day long it is going to get hot so that provided fan would have been a nice little touch because you're probably going to need it, and if you're gaming you're going to be playing Call of Duty, pub g asphalt, 9, and you gave it for a long time. It's going to get mad hot.

That's why I keep telling you all don't get really too invested in all of this thermal liquid cooling, nitrous oxide cool. All these big fancy words. Who cares what thermal liquid coolant means? If they don't work all right, if your phone is still getting mad hot, I don't care what kind of liquid cooling it got. It's not working all right, so this phone does get kinda hot. That's my little down gripe my little gripe about it, but I'm willing to eat that heat for the rest of this presentation and the rest of this performance.

Where was I USB type-c on this side? Like I said, the camera is separate from the display on the back. There's your triple camera setup got a LED flashlight on the bottom headphone jack, Samsung apple, headphone, jack, one plus, and look not just a headphone jack, a headphone jack with the hi-fi quad deck, and let me tell you something now, usually when they say quad deck. I got to put it to the test, so I grabbed my short monk headphones. I plugged them in, and then I tried the same song on um. What phone did I just have? I think it was the red magic another.

One of these phones, I think, was the red magic. I just wanted to see if the quad, the quad deck was a gimmick or if it was real, it's real all right. Let me tell you something: yo, it's real all right when they say quad deck is real sick, USB type-c charging slot. Now it's a little toward the side. I wish it would have been in the middle, but a little toward the side.

You got to get used to that, though, now on the front always on display okay, gaming phones, starting to come with always on displays now, not just a regular, always on display. Look at all those notifications. Okay, now the always on display could be a little brighter. Alright, it could be a little brighter, but it does work now a couple of different ways: you can open up the device swipe up put in your pattern. Your pin.

Next, you got your on-screen fingerprint sensor, which I'm going to say is not the best in the world, but it does work right. It's not like um, the apple phones, where you just go like this. So as soon as I say that now it does that, but apple phones, the apple phones, you have to, want to not make it work like you have to really try to. Let me try to put my finger to the ultimate side to not make it work. Those just work, but this phone fingerprint sensor is pretty dope.

That is pretty dope. And lastly, now this is where it shines that face unlocked. You see, I'm not looking at it as I gradually turn to my face bong. Now, if I do that, whilst looking at it instantaneous, and it works 100 of the time in the daytime or in the evening, all right- you got to mention that, because sometimes you'll be in the dark and try to open your phone, they don't open this one opens in full daylight and full night light. Did I say that right night light, you know what I'm talking about, though next the display now look? I told you all already, even if you're not into gaming, you're going to love this phone for three reasons: number one, the speakers all right.

The speakers are going to blow you out of your chair and I got my phone that has to me the best speakers on the market, the uh v10 pro. These have the best speakers, but I'm going to do a side by side and let you all see for yourself I'll. Let you all hear for yourself the speakers on this phone incredible. The next reason: you're going to love it the display, beautiful and when I say 300, hertz touch response touch, responsive uh hurts whatever you want to call it. Even if you don't know what that means.

This is one of the most responsive screens type in I've. You said you're shooting out that long text message. You know you're talking to a girl, and she's like have a good night, and you know what's coming next, the three-paragraph message and you have to shoot that out real quick. This is one of those phones that rival the iphone to me has the best typing experience. I think this might be the best typing experience on an android phone.

Now that's one of the things that I always gripe about with Samsung phones and basically a lot of other android phones. I hate typing out long messages. It just doesn't feel the same. You got to have an iPhone in order to understand what I'm talking about anybody that owns an iPhone and a galaxy or an iPhone and an android phone. You know what I mean: there's nothing like typing on an iPhone.

This gives you that same experience, battery life incredible battery life is incredible. Like I said, if you into social media this, this is something that you got to check out: push all the game and stuff to the side. I push that to the side. Let's go through some basics. Now this there's really too much stuff for me to really get into and, like I said, I'm not a heavy gamer.

So I'm going to skip certain stuff like all the gaming gestures and all of that there's a thousand other videos from somebody like um, Linus tech tips. You know somebody one of the supreme nerds. You can watch one of those videos, and you can get all the uh. The spec no techno talk, I'm just shooting it to you all as somebody who's using this as a social media phone. I look at it like that.

Okay, so you got your basic toggles. You got x mode, alright, so if you enter x mode, this is going to be a gaming mode. Let me show you how that works. You notice everything turned red all right, Joe. Let me exit out of this real quick, put it back on dynamic.

Okay, can you see? Did I open something up that is so loud all right? Let's, let's do that again, all right! So let's take it over to x mode right. So if you go to x mode, this is going to be gaming, and if you notice it optimizes your phone, you can put it on dynamic. This is optimized performance for day-to-day use. You got ultra durable all right. If you want that battery to last two days, and then you got advanced that you can fully customize, and the phone is giving me a little theme, music.

A little dramatic themed music. I like that, let's put it back on dynamic. Let me show you some features, alright system lighting right. You can control your fan. You can turn the fan on and off.

Furthermore, you got your game genie ear triggers real sick. Now, let's exit out of this and go to the regular settings all right. I know okay, so you got the typical stuff screen recorder, screenshot system lighting. You can just hit that like say you don't you want to save battery, which I'm going to talk about, because I know some of you all thinking right now, like okay, with that RGB light on all day and always on display it has to be draining battery fast. The answer is: no, it really doesn't know.

Look I spent 800 for this phone, I'm leaving the full RGB lights on. If you notice screen on max brightness all right, everything is on all right, I'm leaving the phone on everything mode and I was able to get a full day of use out of this with ease with complete ease. I'm talking about at the end of the day, because I wanted to see for myself is this RGB light going to kill the battery. At the end of the day, I had about the same amount of battery that I had on my galaxy that I was using both of these simultaneously taking side by side pictures and going crazy. Anyway, let's see what else with the toggles mad toggles, you got everything on deck.

You got your audio wizard hi-fi deck plug in your headphones. You got glove mode. Let's see anything, we need to talk about focus mode, bedtime mode file, transfer, uh, connect to your VPNs, auto Shazam. Basically, everything all right put it like this. It's got everything now, let's go through the settings.

Real quick, VPN's, probably DNS, you're gonna, need that if you're going to be gaming, all right, let's see um NFC, screencast, Bluetooth, Chromebook, okay, everything is there apps and notifications um everything. Is there also nothing to really talk about with that sound of vibration? Now I'm not even gonna, I'm not even gonna. I'm going to play some music, but you do have outdoor mode, so you can make this is loud, but you can make it seem even louder. All right you put on outdoor mode is going to seem even louder audio wizard. Now I got to set the dynamic, but if you want to you can change that.

If you want all your uh, sound notifications or your sound settings, that's what I mentioned all your sound settings on deck. Okay! Now this is the 256 gig version. You know I'm saying I only use 15 real nice. Let's go to display. Okay, let's see, let's see refresh rate 144 hertz.

Now I know what you're saying what about the red magic? Six with that 165 hertz refresh rate, look man once you pass 120. The naked eye is really not gonna. It's nice you're, not gonna notice, the difference between 144 and 165. I mean it's, it's all going to seem superfast. The red magic is fast, but this one just actually seems faster, and it feels faster.

It feels a lot faster, so leave it on 144. If you want to save a little battery, throw it on auto because we're on Twitter you're not going to need 144 hertz for twitter. Let's see, let's see anything else, uh color schemes, you got light and dark: okay, classic colorful, calm, elegant! That's your power button, menu style uh! Let's look colorful! Why not? Why not font size animation speeds? Okay. Now, usually you got to go to developer options for this. It's right there all right, no need to do that system navigation! You got your three buttons on the bottom.

All your swipe gestures, always on display all right. You can set that to turn off at bedtime, lift to check phone new notifications. You got a screen saver, and you got a LED indicator: bong, let's keep it moving: privacy, location security and screen lock. Okay, so you got face unlock smart, lock, fingerprint sensor trusted devices. Digital well-being monitor your scumbag activities.

Let's take it over to advanced, so you got your game genie I'll! Show you how it looks when you take it to game mode, but look you got real-time info management temperature units navigation blocking? What does that mean? I don't know: let's go to um twin apps, all right scumbag status on deck. You got safeguard all right. That's your little SOS I're making a move to go check your that live in the projects. Make sure you turn on SOS. Okay got OptiPlex.

Okay, OptiPlex, accelerate apps launches, reduces app reloads and saves power on standby. This is some real. Some real nerd type just keeps it moving. You got your air triggers. You can turn them on and off-screen recorder, screenshot pocket mode in glove mode.

Now, let's see I wanted to find one more setting. Let's go to. How did I do that? Let's go to system lighting, okay here it is now. This is where this phone gets. Crazy atmosphere is lighting all right, so you got for music x mode screen on and screen off.

You got your info lighting all right, so you can change the RGB patterns on the back for a different one. Let's see for incoming call, while the phone is ringing, you can have that flashing green in a call. Now you can change this, so you got static. You got strobing. Let's do let's see uh, let's see color cycle, so basically just going to cycle through all the colors, just like your RGB keyboards, but a bunch of different ones to play with mixed lights, all right rainbow effect now, which one did I have it on.

I think it's called flash and dash. This is the one I like flash and dash bro. You know what I'm saying you can control the brightness. Of course, you want it on max brightness, and you can control the speed of it, like I said, there's so much lights and so many features to play with. We can't go through them all in this video, but for under 600 bucks.

When you get the phone take your time and play with it all right play with it, let's keep it moving next now, let's see, let's see this beautiful display, let's take it over to YouTube matter of fact, for this video, no, I'm not even gonna matter of fact yeah. Let's do it like this, lets plus Sony video, I'm not even gonna, come through with the sound test, let's let's rewind a little. So, let's, let's rewind, get to my favorite part. Okay, full screen display now listen to the speakers, not to mention the vibration engine on this yo. Here we go.

Let's go, let's cover the bottom speaker. Can you hear that bass now? This is what I this is what I've been waiting all day to test. Let's pull out my favorite phone uh. Actually, my favorite speakers on the phone we got the 10 pro see same video make sure we are next. Oh, wait a minute! Okay hold up! Let's see! Oh, no! These are still the best.

These are still the best because if you notice they're pretty much the same volume but the clarity on these all right, both of them have base and volume. But this one you can hear you hear the clearness. Listen. Let's pull this one back up, yeah the okay. This is still the champ and on the side note I read somewhere that the 11 ultra has better speakers than this one.

I think the b11 ultra might be the phone of the year, but we got to talk about that later anyway, ridiculous speakers not only ridiculous speakers, but the vibration engine on these speakers. So when the bass is rumbling, you feel it vibrating same thing. I was playing a little of asphalt 9. I just deleted and reloaded again, because I know I like only like doing the first board, but the asphalt 9. Furthermore, I'm going to load it up, so you can hear it for yourself.

These speakers have a wide sound to it, even though these sound a little better all right. But these ain't no slouch these ain't, no slouch, let's keep it moving all right. So now, let's do the let's check the internet. Browsing speeds go to apple. com, opening webpage, snapdragon 888.

Pictures and videos me so so so all right so overall on a scale of 1-10, I'm giving the ASUS ROG 5 a major major major go and for under 600 bucks, as bob barker would say, the price is right. I had no intentions of getting that one, but after using this phone and falling in love with it, I must have the ultimate, the ultimate and the pro have the OLED panel on the back. Now, the only thing about the ultimate you're going to lose the RGB light, but I'll take the OLED panel with the white color to match my g14. It's going to look sick. Now.
